Hydra VS Buzzard - Which to buy?

Hydra:

Pros:

- Only purchasable military jet in the game.

- Has the same weapons as the Savage (so just read that, I guess,) but having a cool down.

How is it a pro that its the only purchasable jet in the game? How does this make the hydra better than the choppers?

Is it a pro that it has the same weapons as the savage, only hydra need a cooldown aswell? Isnt that a con?

It being the only purchasable military jet in the game is a pro in itself since it's faster than the helicopters and is also fully weaponized.

The Hydra needing a cooldown is a con compared to the Savage, but a pro compared to the Buzzard. Nonetheless, it's explosive turret and homing rockets are still a pro for it.

You should always think that is there actually any real need for an aircraft when playing a mission. Will you have time to use it at all or should you already killed the enemies if you just drive and walk? Will you just make things go slower if you go and get one?

I've seen people taking a Buzzard for a mission where you go to kill some bad boys inside a building and then leave the place driving a boat... obviously even when spawning pretty close to the destination.

Buzzard:

+ Cheap-ish

+ Lots of spawn points (normal airports + a few others like Hospital roof)

+ Room for 4 people (while you rarely have to carry people, this is a nice extra)

+ Easier and faster to land/takeoff

- Pilot is more exposed to damage

- Max speed is slower

Hydra:

+ Sexy

+ Room for one only (you can have some alone time)

+ More firepower (rocket reload rate seems slower though)

+ Fast-ish (faster than any heli but slower than Lazer)

+ It really is sexy

+ VTOL capabilities

+ Pilot won't take much bullet holes unless using VTOL+machine gun combo, however you can avoid most damage by not going too close

+ I call my Hydra "Christine"

+ Takes skill to use, not as ezmode as Buzzard or helicopters

- Really slow to land if you have to land on somewhere specific spot because:

- When turn VTOL on, it takes a lot of time to plane to stop

- Only three spawn points (LS Airport and two in Blaine Country)

- A lot easier to crash, takes some practice to do it right

So it might come down to personal preference but ofc it's hard to tell if you haven't used one. Hydra is very effective when breaking into Military place for Martin's mission but in the other hand a helicopter has strengths too.

I must add that the TOP SPEED of the Hydra is higher than the Lazer, though the acceleration is pretty meh.

I went to mission with my friend, one buzzard, one savage, me hydra. One point we head to the same direction , on the map I see all three have same speed. The speed difference may not that significant, not that I can tell on mission.

If you're wanting something for missions I'd save a little bit more and get the savage. Takes getting used to but it's great and can transport 3 friends two of which can be rpg lunatics.

However if you want a fast fighter jet and all round useful freeroam tool as well as being relatively useful for missions (some plane missions the hydra is a joy for) then get the hydra. It is genuinely the fastest top speed of any jet currently and if you learn to use thrust vectoring then it's not to bad agility wise.

Hmmm. This thread seems familiar. ..

So, choose a vehicle that gets missions done faster or a weapon that can shut down an entire lobby... hmmmm, I WONDER!

HAIL HYDRA

Buzzard first, then Hydra.

The hydra is cool and all, but it definitely aint no helo. Buzzard is better for missions as you can hover and maneuver more readily around the target area, you can do the same with the hydra but its tendecny to drift in the same direction taking a while to slow down will piss you right off eventually - but the ability to turn into a jet within 1 second is its main advantage, its gotten me out of a lot of sticky situations.

Buzzard for sure if doing missions. It can get you places very quickly, saves money compared to using weapons ($200 to call in, but no money spent on ammo after that), and overall makes a large number of nicely-paying missions almost trivial once you learn to pilot it well.

Savage is really great too, and lots of fun, but less versatile overall due to because big and less maneuverable, and the Buzzard can still do most of the same stuff.

As a couple of side notes: to take out fast-moving targets like boats and cars in a mission with a Buzzard, fly low and close behind them before firing a missile, which ensures the missile will fly parallel to the road and hit rather than impacting behind the vehicle; to deal with fast-moving vehicles chasing you, lure them to intersections or force them to change directions, and time your rockets so they will hit the target right as they are slowing down or stopping (especially good against Lost bikers). In the end, a Buzzard is going to pay for itself in the long-run because it will increase the money you earn from missions.

Also, something people often forget about using choppers in missions is that the sheer speed you can kill enemies while piloting one usually outweighs the inconvenience of driving off course to get one, to say nothing of the fact that there is no reason to clear a mission at top speed (which gets you paid less than the optimum time/money balance from a mission). Second, having any sort of aircraft will make many difficult missions easier, especially when playing with random players, and it's hard to quantify how much money I have not lost because a Buzzard let me finish a mission that otherwise would have failed.

Hydra is also very good, but having to spawn it at an airstrip is usually too much of an inconvenience for missions, even for me, and it has less firepower than the Savage and less maneuverability than the Buzzard (in VTOL mode at least), so I would save it for later. It is probably the best of the three for free roam battles though.

Depends on your gameplay. Savage is more enduring but Buzzard has better handling, agility and the fastest vehicle around. Hydra is best when it comes to shooting. I'll prefer Buzzard though.

Buzzard:

pros:

_agile

_one of the fastest choppers

_small

_copilot can take control of the missiles

_quite tough for its size

_spawns on helipads which are fairly common

_good pitching downwards means good at engaging ground targets at low speed

_two people in the back with access to a vast array of their weaponry

cons:

_big canopy makes for a relatively easy target

_miniguns require some skill as they're not equipped with explosive rounds

Savage:

pros:

_explosive minigun

_fully automatic missile fire

_spawns on helipads which are fairly common

_two people in the back with access to a vast array of their weaponry

cons:

_weak

_slow

_big, easy target

_copilot is useless

_range on minigun is laughable

_can't pitch down well

Hydra:

pros:

_fastest aircraft

_quite tough

_explosive minigun

_VTOL mode on/off that enables a "travel" mode to cross the map in a short amount of time and gives the pilot the ability to chose its rules of engagment.

cons:

_one seater

_only spawns in airfield

_slow acceleration

_can't pitch down well in VTOL mode

So yeah, basically, the Buzzard is a very useful tool for missions, Savage is a better armed, sh*ttier Buzzard, and the Hydra is more of a nice thing to have than a needed vehicle.

My opinion though :p

The Lone Wanderer

for Freeroam use the laser, for missions use the buzzard.

this is what worked before heists and it still does.

savage is about equal to the buzzard in missions all considered but never buy both.

hydra is a griefing tool. is it really worth 3m just to avoid jumping a fence into zancudo?

Buzzard all the way. For one, you will have a shorter drive once you spawn it, since it spawns at helipads, which are everywhere. The hydra will only spawn at runways, which are limited throughout the game. The buzzard is also quite a bit more maneuverable since it's a helicopter, and the fastest helicopter in the game, so overall you will be able to get to your objectives faster and easier. Also, the Buzzard is a lot cheaper; you can use your extra $1.25M towards other useful things, like apartments, fast cars, weapons, etc. If you want a practical vehicle/weapon for grinding missions, the Buzzard is the best investment in the game, hands down.

Buzzard isn't the fastest helicopter it's the second fastest. Fastest is the Buckingham swift.

Savage... Hydra way to over priced and seems pretty slow when i was testing it out on creator. Buzzard can be picked up at airport at almost anygiven time. Savage cant withstand a rocket but can spam rockets with no reload and also has explosive cannon and has good handling but a bigger target.
