BetterThanTraining
Hello, Just recently got into the GTA world when I just stumbled upon a great price for GTA3 on Steam and decided to spend five bucks to see how much I liked the general GTA style of play And, of course, I’ve gotten hooked. Will pick up the Vice City, SA, and GTA4 in the near future (not sure v. 5 will run at an acceptable quality on my main personal machine), but for now still tooling around in GTA3. I don’t really play the game in the linear mission-oriented way that often, (mostly because I find the timed missions irritating and the errand-boy ones a little tedious). Instead I just play around in the open-world sandbox most of the time, like lots of you. When I am in mission-playing mode I don’t use cheats, glitches, etc., But in the open-world just screwing around,...anything goes, I say. Which brings me to the GTA3 Admin Console. And my desire to explore its capabilities. And a question/request. I downloaded the last version of it a few days ago and installed it, without any issue, in the same sub-directory that my GTA3 main .exe is located in (under the Steam hierarchy of folders). But actually getting it to work has been the trouble. First, I had the “No Game in Progress” issue, then did some searching and quickly uncovered that I needed to change the GTA3 version select number on under the “Keyboard Shortcuts” tab. Found out that the only selection that caused any progress was (oddly) setting the version selector to 1.0. After making that I change I got the console past that error. (Thanks.) Unfortunately, I was then faced with a new—or related?—problem: even though according to the program the process for opening the console, syncing it with my in-progress game, etc. all ostensibly is working as it should, nothing in the console actually, well, works. By that I mean changing something in the console has absolutely no effect on the game. Nothing. And the converse is also true: nothing done in the game causes any changes to any information shown in the console (eg. player location, weapons load, vehicle info, etc.). All I get is an initial “player on foot” status when the console starts—no error messages or anything communicating a detected problem--and every other field and option blank and/or non-working. And that “player on foot” status doesn’t even work; if I get into a vehicle, the status remains unchanged. If anyone has any thoughts, suggestions, etc. about what’s going on and what might fix it, I’d be grateful. Tried searching the forum here and Google extensively, but the most useful item I’ve been able to find was just a post where someone made a short statement that he had gotten it to work with/on GTA3 on Steam after having the No Game in Progress problem, with no other details. So at least I know Steam isn’t a dealbreaker for using the console (right?), but I haven’t found any particular info about my situation. So, as I said, any advice would be much appreciated. (Apologies for the length of this post. )

BetterThanTraining
It's a possibility I've thought of, and it could be true. But I haven't found anyone directly saying so anywhere on this forum or the GTA forums on Steam. And I have found a couple of posts that kind of imply that the author was able to get it working with Steam, eventually (without saying what the problems were or what they did to fix them, unfortunately.) But it's definitely a possibility...
