slohbur
GTA V is not available for OS X. Unless you use Bootcamp or a third party program (e.g. Parallels) to install Windows, you won't be able to play GTA V on a Mac. If you opt for the Boot Camp option. You'll need to install Windows on your Mac first (you can find the instructions on how to do so on Apple’s support site here). In addition to the requirements listed on Apple’s support site, you’ll need: A Mac that meets or exceeds the minimum system specs for GTAV A 64-bit version of Windows 7 or above At least 65GB of additional free hard drive space for GTAV Though, if gaming is the main reason you're buying a new computer, perhaps an Apple computer is not your best option. Luddite
Hi.. once again.. I would like an answer from someone who actually has experience with using a Macintosh, specifically with this game. Not that I don't appreciate the snips but they do not in the least assist me. As a matter of fact this pretense of "help" might just distract those who might actually be able to answer my query. K.Walters
Hi, I don`t have a mac, but I can tell you that you won`t get the advertised GTA5 PC experience on a mac. Like slohbur said, you`ll need to bootcamp a 64-bit Windows on it. Also know that Macbooks use integrated Intel GPUs which are horrible for gaming. There are some Macs that could meet the minimum system requirements, but they are so expensive that you`d be better off building your own Windows PC. Then there is also a possibility of issues and bugs because it`s running on mac etc. If your main goal here is get a gaming PC then don`t even look at macs. They are good at what they do but gaming is not what they do. Edited May 24, 2015 by WalterS_LV Luddite

southparkmayor
With the money spent on an iMac, you could get a Gaming PC with a 980 an i7 and 16GB of ram. All of which is replaceable and not thrown in the trash after 3 years because everything is soldered. If you already have a mac, then you'd need boot camp or parallels. Even then It would not run well with laptop components that get throttled because they heat up easily. Honestly, if you come to a PC forum talking about Apple products then you'll get ripped on with common sense about how macs are inferior in every way compared to PC except for the fact that Macs are for technologically illiterate folks with money to burn. Minethulhu
Running it in bootcamp on a 15inch mid-2014 MacBook Pro with the 2GB NVidia graphics card. It runs fine and is more than capable of running GTA V. I haven't tried running it in Parallels or vmWare under MacOS...can almost guarantee it will perform poorly since it's emulating the graphics card and passing it over to MacOS (only ever tried Sid Meier's Beyond Earth this way...and it's not terribly graphics intensive, but was horrible...but this was before the MacOS port came out). I *think* I've got GTA 5 set at (or near) the highest settings. I suspect any of the machines that don't come with 2GB or better graphics memory may not work so well (MacBook, MacBook Air and low-end iMac). So either wait for somebody to chime in about those or only target the high-end machines (high-end 15inch MacBook Pro or 5K display iMac) In general, Mac gaming is getting better. There are still plenty of triple A titles that won't come out on MacOS, but some are. And more and more smaller developers are also supporting MacOS. Thalyn
R9 M000X ... like mobile technologies = bullsh*t and look the price of this very nice scam (usual from Apple...).Apple are good only for lobbying (paid artists, TV shows, stupids and ignorants journalists, influent people, youtubers...). I love all these "sponsored" (by Paramount (Sony) or Apple) Movie directors during a "making of" showing their computer, with a MAC screen (no problem to show the big logo), while in fact the tower is a PC (with windows or .. Linux), or at least, their computer is a "Hackintosh" or better, we never see the screen, with Windows on it..... And goats believe Apple is good, nice, innovative etc... and buy a Mac just to believe to be smart, superior, artist while they are just goats using obsolete and overpriced hardwares/devices.Even Microsoft tried this for windows 8... and failed during the first months, however many people say today that Win8 is great OS (lol). Microsoft thought at this time, they need to paid only some artists and make some Ads, but not, it's not enough, they have to pay some journalists and influent people to succeeded.... and then, to create a popular dynamic, and then, the goats follow. What? Apple create some amazing softwares ?....No, like google, Apple take Linux softwares, customizes (only the user interface = GUI)... and crypt the files, put a f*cking BSD license and then say: "this software, this great alternative solution was developed by the Mac teams, yes yes!! we're the creators". Same with this f*cking and useless (overpriced) 5K screen... PC world talk about 4K, then Apple provide a 5K screen saying "we're so innovative" (while 5K screens, even 8K screens exist since One year by other "little" manufacturers).... incredible to be so dumb. Try Linux instead. It's free, simple (by design, doesn't means "easy"), powerful, really innovative and open (but unfortunately very limited for Games yet cause the games industry. Doesn't means limited for gaming, in contrary, Linux specially Debian and Fedora are perfect for gaming (or the greedy ubuntu, based on Debian with Ubuntu company bullsh*ts, good enough for the noobs)). Dying Light, for example is amazing on Linux (identical to the Windows version, but with much more FPS because a Linux distro made for gaming, use only 5-10% of the hardware resources compared to Windows 8 with 15-35%).The day where AAA games will be released on Linux, then Linux will be so popular (the reason why some companies don't want to see Linux in the first place, the reason why the same companies develop a new "closed" OS (based on stolen resources) from Linux under BSD license where their OS is just a commercial and business space hidden behind free Apps, free apps games for dumbs... just to make it popular, after that, Rockstar will release some games, and goats will continue to say: "Linux is sh*tty, but ChromeOS, iOS, Android etc.. are awesome".......). Because we are on GTA forums, unfortunately GTA V don't runs on Linux system. And very unlikely even in the near future, because GTA V isn't develop to be OpenGL friendly (GTA V will never on Linux in "native"), and "wine" can just handle Dx9 (and less). If GTA V was provided with a DX9 version, then GTA V would run on Linux with Wine. It's very difficult to create a "fake" DirectX for the 10.x and 11.x versions (Microsoft have hardly worked on it to avoid to have some Windows and Xbox console exclusive games on PC with Linux), but with OpenGL (Vulcan) totally and the only one really multiplateform (as powerful as Dx10 for now), Dx12 (very comparable to Mantle in design), if Rockstar wake up, and become good, innovative and respectful of technological developments (like what they were, there are many years, but unfortunately, Rockstar seems interested only by money now, while they were interested by money, like every companies, but they were innovator, interested by qualities and technologies. "Today", it's enough to do lobbying, advertising, to paid people to be estimated like innovator, to be loved, even to win some prizes... Apple and Google act like an successful examples in term of idiocracy: lazy, thieves and win lot of money...), then GTA VI will run with DX12 (or more), and if Rockstar have the good idea to implement OpenGL (probably Vulcan at this moment), then GTA VI will run on Linux too (not necessarily as "native", but with some adjustments, will be playable on Linux with "wine" without to use a fake Dx). Very unlikely in "Linux native" because Rage engine become old, limited and obsolete (and based on lot of unstandardized things, greedy for nothing, forcing them in 2015 to make low-poly games for to be not excessively greedy).Plus, Rockstar prove they are in love with Google and Apple now, definitely... then Rockstar Games (and T2) prefer to join at this Thieves group and make easy money (instead to be a real innovative company). And then, I don't think Rockstar want develop a "new Rage engine" (lot of work phewwwww) fully compatible for Windows, Linux and then... for all every systems (because these "ever systems" are based on Linux but with some modifications (rarely "improvements") avoiding the compatibility between Linux and "their" OS, but compatible when they need to take source from Linux to "their" system. (even the PS4 OS, Orbis, is a Linux software, from openSuze originally... but since Sony is a the new Apple f*ck friend, then like Apple and Google, after the development on Linux (and with the Linux tools, softwares and linux community), Sony have crypted the files and put a f*cking BSD license (Today, the BSD is used only by thieves)). Originally, BSD (License from the Berkeley University initially) indicate this software is a Unix software. Every Linux software are Unix too (2 architectures to make simple: DOS by IBM, forked by Microsoft for MS-DOS, and Unix with Linux, BSD (google, apple, sony...) and others). It's easy then for liars and lazzy companies (like Google, Apple, and Sony now.... and Rockstar Games soon maybe....), to use Softwares from Linux, to change the license to BSD, to crypt the files (impossible to view the files) and pretend after that to be the creator and innovative... Originally BSD softwares were slightly different of Linux Software (80% compatible), now, major of Linux softwares are 100% compatible with BSD systems (because BSD, is just a license today based on Linux systems...). Then "We" can even create a BSD software for Windows now (google for example) because it's just a license and not an architecture anymore (amalgam between the real freeBSD system and BSD license, Mac was initially a freeBSD OS, now it's officially a freeBSD OS under BSD license using Linux softwares, and then in fact, it's just a hybrid OS based freeBSD and Debian using illegally using only Linux solutions & softwares........). I am playing it on a Late 2013 27" iMac with 3TB Fusion drive, 16GB Ram and the upgraded Nvidia 780m with 4GB RAM It runs as sweet as a nut. Win 8.1 on Boot camp and has no issues. Well the only issue is using the Mac keyboard. One Mod I was using needed the INSERT key, so I had to find an old Windows KB to plug on. Other than that, no problems. Before it came out I was hoping that the gameplay might be close to the PS4 but when I tried it, it blows the PS4 out of the water. I am having a ball playing V and modding it. I am using my 360 wired controller with it. BlackNoise and Luddite

In MY case I gave up gaming on the PC when I bought my XBOX 360 when it first came out. That freed me up to buy whatever computer I wanted. I chose a Mac Pro. I have had 4 Macs since then, A PowerBook, A MacBook Pro, a Mac Pro and now this iMac and I have been very happy with all of them. But..... I used to love modding GTAIII and VC and SA and I missed that on the consoles. So, when the PC version was announced I was happy and hoped I could run it. I am not going to sell my iMac and build a PC just for GTAV, or keep the iMac and have a second computer, it's not worth it and I don't have the space. I am just happy that V runs really well (more than really well) on this iMac. I am sure the OP has his reasons for buying a Mac but still wants to be able to play V. I've been building my own PC's since my first 25Mz 80386 when RAM was £33 per Megabyte! and CD-ROMS were TWICE the capacity of your hard disk. Been there, done that. superadmin, BlackNoise and Luddite
