I know what you mean, you're right. I still see shutting servers down as a bad thing to do though.

Hey things would be worse...You could have Crabbies

Least they're not as bad as Sony. They shut down the MLB The Show servers after a year.

Are you refering to MLB14?

A 21yo acting like a 12yo.

It's bullsh*t if you ask me. These company's make millions they are just greedy fat cats. All they care about is profit and the newest tech like the Xbox One.

Welcome to economics 1.0. Gaming companies are in it for profits, no other reason.

I bet in every company's ToS clearly state they have every right to terminate their online service at any point. You bought the game, you agree to their ToS.

Hell, even five years is pretty generous to allow online gameplay. They didn't even have to do it that long.

Don't like they can do it? Don't buy their games.

EA shut down Mercs 2 servers after like 18 months.

Mind you, the co-op was stapled on garbage, but still.

I didn't agree to any ToS when I bought Forza 3. I agree to Tos on Xbox Live but not a game itself.

If the company's cant afford to keep their own game running the way it is supposed to be then it shouldn't cost us as much money to buy the games or even any money at all.

The least they could do is warn players and thank them for sticking around.

Of course, EA can make a message appear telling you to buy Battlefield 4 when you start up Battlefield 3 so why can't Turn 10 give us a message saying the servers are going to be shut down at a certain date due to financial reasons, thank us for playing and suggest Forza 4?

It isn't much to ask. I'm not "acting like a 12 year old". You're the one that's immature by saying things like that.

Dude, check the booklet or the readme.txt that comes with those things. I'm pretty sure you don't know what a ToS is.

By buying the game, you are consenting to the terms of service of the publisher. You don't own the game; you own the license to use it. And that includes terms of usage or service or licensing. Which will tell you exactly what you own and what you are entitled to. One of those things is the fact that the online service may be interrupted at a later date.

If the company's cant afford to keep their own game running the way it is supposed to be then it shouldn't cost us as much money to buy the games or even any money at all.

The game IS running the way it is supposed to be, though. It's all in the terms of service. Having the online go away after x amount of time is completely expected. And you accepted it by buying the game.

Sure, they could have added a message saying "Hey guys, we'll shut it down.". That's all they could have done, and even then you are not entitled to that, since it's their prerogative as they have stated in the, you guessed it, terms of service. If you had complained "Man, it was sh*tty of them to not let us know about it beforehand!", no-one here would have an issue with what you're saying. But your entire argument amounts to "This is BS, I paid for the game, I deserve lifetime internet access! They are infringing on my rights!", which is BS.

I know they can do it. They did didn't they?

My argument was that they shouldn't have the right to do this. Of course they have ToS that state things like this so they can get away with it.

They should wait longer is what I am saying. Not forever that's ridiculous. But it's only been 6 years. That isn't that long.

Anyway I bought Forza 4 today so I am happy now.

Yes you did. Each game has it's own ToS.. lol

Now you're getting ridiculous. It takes time and money to create games. So that statement, "or even any money at all" is just ignorant.

It isn't much to ask but you're whining about it, which is something a 12yo does. lol

All I'm seeing is, "I spent $90 to cheat at a game that's 6 years old. It doesn't work now, so it's the dev's fault for making me waste $90".

Thats partly why I am annoyed. But all I am saying it would be a lot better if they kept the server up for longer.

I don't understand why people like you try make out like I'm just whining when I am just disappointed that one of my favourite games servers shut down.

What's so great about that? It is disappointing so I can be disappointed. I am not saying let's boycott turn 10 or some crap I'm just saying they should give us a warning before shutting the servers down and maybe they should even keep the servers up a bit longer than they did because Xbox 360 is still used by many people and Forza 3 is on it.

If they warned players then I probably wouldn't have spent money on a mod tool to mod it would I? It's just curtesy to let players know.

I don't care about the money though. Horizon isn't just for Forza 3, it has a lot of games you can mod and other things. I bought fora 4 aswell and I already modded my credits on there too so I don't really care anymore.

It's just a shame that it's gone now.

I admit to over reacting slightly, it's just because I was shocked and had no warning and had played it days prior.

But I believe servers should be up for longer than what it was but that's my opinion only and I am entitled to it. I don't see why you care so much about my opinion.

1. I'm glad you realized that you overreacted.

2. We can't grasp why you'd be upset that F3 servers shut down when you have F4. I'm surprised no one accused you of being a troll. That's why we're calling you out on whining. Forza 4 I miles and miles better and it's no secret as the player base moved on. Just like there's a reason why F4 players moved onto F5 and finally FH2.

3. If you can spend $90 for a program, you can save abit more for a Xbox One and FH2. You won't be disappointed.

I still have FM3, but FM4 is a much better game. If FM3 servers are shut down, then play FM4. A much better game, and the best game in the Forza series. If you don't have FM4, it's quite cheap now, or save yourself some money and buy a Xbox One together with FM5 and FH2. :)

Yeah I over reacted a lot. Forza 4 is better than 3 so there's no point having both on. But can anyone see what I was trying to say at least? It just felt as if I shouldn't be playing Forza 3. That if I'm playing it then I'm dumb and should have already moved on. I felt as if I am entitled to enjoy a game for what it is and not need to keep upgrading and just be happy. But when it boils down there's a lot that comes into it all. It's not just about me and what I want.

Ah, Forza 3. Gives me so many good memories, I even bought the Collector's Edition which included a keychain and a flash drive. Still have those today, such a shame.

You know the cost it takes to run peer to peer functionalities of online games is relatively cheap to most gaming companies, specially when youre paying them to do so.

After five years they dont take the servers down to make more profit, not even to make players move on (the player base is insignificant at that point), its just usual budgeting, when you want to lower your budget you always go and remove the little things that you dont feel like they matter anymore, then you realize youve done nothing to improve your budget because those little things were indeed insignificant.

My favorite example is NASAs budget.

Eh, consoles will always be the go-to system for gaming. But that's neither here or there, companies will always remove services that don't return investments.

The only real issue I have is with achievements that are online.

Consoles arent the go-to system for gaming, anything they can do can be done better by PCs.

Also PC services have more chances to stay on for longer, AOE2 for example was released 15 years ago and it still is online thanks to Steam, and were talking about a Microsoft game here; Microsoft is willing to support its old PC titles for decades while at the same time they dont give a damn for their console titles even tough YOU PAY THEM for playing online.

For developers it is. The guys at CD Projekt Red said there would be no Witcher 3 if there was no consoles, for very good reasons. Games are made for consoles and tweaked/optimized for PC.

Just lame they didn't wait a year to integrate a possibility for 4k.

Either way, times are changing now that Microsoft has over 300k servers, which was the same amount the internet had in 1999, so maybe new games will stay on longer throughout the life of the system.

Didnt Iwinski say that because they need to sell in all platforms in order to get profits? CDprojekt is self funded you go big or you go home, i think the added market of Xbox and PlayStation is about as big (if not bigger) than the PC market, Would you claim that by being bigger in conjunction consoles are in any way "better" than PC? You dont want to go down that route, trust me.

Also games arent made for consoles then tweaked for PC, thats impossible, you have to port them and that is a much more complicated task. You dont "tweak" or "optimize" a version for PC, you build it from zero, (unless its a COD game XD, but nobody plays those things on PC).

When people claims that there is a downgrade on the Witcher 3 they dont even consider the console versions for comparing, the PC version still is better, youre just putting more effort on the console versions so they can look better (CD Projekt games are beautiful anywhere, how many companies can do that?).

Then again, i dont see why making the PC version after the console version is in any way worse, GTA V is still better on PC and has many more features, so is Dark Souls 2, or the Far Cry series for example.

Also, 4k on consoles? They cant barely hold 1080p, let alone 60fps, im actually worried about that becuase resolution and framerates never go up as a console life progresses, overall graphics will get better, but resolutions can actually go down.

BTW MS had a clause where they basically guaranteed that all their products had 10 years of support, when they pulled their big jump back and changed their DRM polices did not change their EULA and their terms or services, so now theres no guaranteed support for any amount of time, so theres that. Then again, i strongly doubt there will be another Xbox, so anything can happen.

TL:DR i dont care to convince you, gamers can be stubborn, i used to be like that, i just wrote that while my Fistful of Frags was updating XD.

The only real issue I have is with achievements that are online.

This! Annoyed me slightly when I was on an Achievement Hunting mission, and was unable to complete many of them due to the online services no longer working fully.

Exactly, that was part of my point. That the game isn't designed to be played without the servers. Shutting servers down IS a grey area.

Anyway my Forza 4 fun was short lived as I have been banned. I can still race though, but no auction house for me. God forbid I have game credits and not do the career mode! I might just have fun or something!

I think if a company shuts servers down for a game that has online achievements, it should award you them all as default, or remove them from the achievement list.

Achievements have nothing to do with a game been playable or not, they're eactly what their name states, little personal achievements and tasks that just add to a game.

Still bogus if they're in the game and you can no longer be able to obtain them since part of the game no longer works.

Read my post above and you'll see I agree with ya on this one. Like BlueTroll said, when a game becomes "dead" online, they should blank out those achievements, meaning you still feel like you can collect all the achievements for a game.
