The only thing I'm having problems with on the cosmetic side are the hands. I can't edit the bump maps on them because of their file format and hands deform when driving and when blocking hits since they're designed for Trevor's YFD. If I use his YFD Niko won't have facial anims.

 

We need model editing. Fast.

It's in this Archive;

 

Grand Theft Auto IV\pc\audio\Sfx\speech.rpf\SPEECH

 

You want to look for the following in 'Niko_Normal_4', specifically; 0x4D567945, 0x5A1E22DB, 0x9C9297C4, 0x76DD4C5A, 0x611020C0, and 0x53508541. I have Bolded the exact phrase code. :)

Seems like rigged custom player models are coming. Hopefully you get around to porting all of GTA IV clothes.

That isn't a player model. It is a bunch of objects attached to an invisible player. Still very cool though. And yeah, I do plan on rigging things.

 

Anyhow, clothing texture changes for snowy days.

It seems to be a trick, when normals are going up, texture is becoming white.

Yep. Snow is shader-based.

Also, I was wondering about Niko's hairstyle - is it possible yet to change his hair? I have some experience with IV's files, but I have no idea how V's models work, so I'm asking. Is it possible to give him one of the recolored Michael's or other ped's hair?

Yeah it's possible. However I don't think the hair will fit since the head models are different.

A little green hoaxer came by and asked me to do a trailer for the new version of a mod he's been working on with his friend. It's almost finished. Until then, have a taste.

Currently researching how I can make this an override so the mod will be easier to install.

I'm having a difficult time getting him to load as an override. I want him to function as DLC so-to-speak so that way his installation will be far easier. If all goes to plan, a voice can be packaged with him and whatnot.

Honestly, I see no reason to change the installation method. Personally, the current way just feels right and isn't hard at all. But if it stands in the way of unmuting him, then good luck.

They were probably just using them as reference, and left them in on accident

You can use OpenIV's "Add Mod" Technique. With this you don't have to replace any files. Create a folder called "mods" in the main directory and copy "x64v" and the sound files into that folder.

True but it bugs me that they are even playable and have animations bug me :/

I am fully aware of this method and have been using it since I first found out about it. My main reason to having him function as a DLC is so that way core files will remain untouched, and this would allow me to add new content to the game without leaving a mess. This would also make it compatible with other mods on the data side of things.
