Lithium
So I've always wanted an older Ford Bronco, and I've finally found one. http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/pml/cto/4985656924.html It needs some work, hard top, doors, and a heater (the top and doors I've found already). As far as the paint goes if think it looks pretty good, but I'm sure I'll have to paint the doors and top. Based on that info, do you guys think it would be worthwhile getting? I was planning on offering 8k and getting 12k to make sure everything is in order. Also, the engine has 80,000 km.
epoxi
With the welded tailgate, lack of heater and various body parts it is definitely not a daily driver, but $8k seems about right. I would definitely want a good body though, inspect it with great prejudice, you don't want it rusting into the ground. I think the most important thing is deciding if you would use it: it's a cool car but I wouldn't ever bother driving it because it's just too impractical, and $8k is a lot to spend on a toy. Lithium
I plan on getting it checked by my buddy who has been a mechanic for 16 years. I'm just trying to convince myself it's worthwhile because a lot of the ones I've seen redone go for 30-40k US. The guy says there's no rust on the frame. epoxi
The guy says there's no rust on the frame. Translation: "But there's rust on the body." While you are right about the Bronco being pretty hot property, there is very little 'Bronco' to this example. The expensive examples command a high price because they have a plethora of hard-to-get original components, if anyone were to attempt to restore this one they would end up buying more parts than there already are, plus the 6 body panels you actually have are of unconfirmed condition (we already know the trunk is welded and the paint is a bit rough considering you can see the previous layer exposed in the photo showing the rear bench). Not trying to spoil it, but this truck is definitely not an investment piece, the only value it has is the enjoyment it would bring to you (minus the drama it would bring to you). Edit: Also, first rule of mechanical inspections: get it looked at before you buy it rather than after. Edited May 15, 2015 by epoxi

I do feel like it will be more money than it's worth and I could probably sink a lot in to it.
epoxi
I am sure you will get a good find one day (Bronco or otherwise), your strategy of having a 35% contingency on top of the value of the car is certainly the right way to go, it's just a question of patience... universetwisters
A friend of my father had an old Bronco that looked just like that but with a cover over the bed along with a blue body and white top and whenever he went out of town, he let my dad keep the Bronco. All I remember of it was that it had a manual transmission so whenever he was driving it, I wouldn't look out the window or anything, I'd just watch him move around the stick shift all quick as if he were trying to throttle the life out of the truck. Gutslab
Speaking of Bronco stories, I had a neighbor who had a slightly newer one than the on in OP(pic below) for several years. I would guess he worked on the truck at least 2-3 times a week and there was also a long stretch of time in which it was just sitting idle. Seemed like a huge hassle to maintain the vehicle but no matter if you love the car! Edited May 16, 2015 by Gutslab
Lithium
Hey Epoxi, this jeep is a pretty sweet machine. http://bellingham.craigslist.org/cto/4993249354.html
epoxi
Judging by eBay USA figures for sold CJ-8 Scrambler listings that seems like a fair price if the restoration is as thorough as promised. I assume Jeep parts will be easier to source than the Bronco. Keep in mind I live in the UK so my entire perception, particularly for the Bronco, is based on episodes of Overhaulin', Gas Monkey Garage etc. Again my main cause for concern is the practicality aspect: it looks like the seller wants to trade it for something with more seats, which is understandable when the Jeep's entire rear end is taken up for that roll cage/tyre mount. Lurch
I think it's a good price for an EB. Plenty of Bronco left there compared to a lot I see. Mod's are typical of what Bronco people want to so I don't think too much there detracts from the value. After seeing Jeep CJ tailgates take a beating from body flex, I even think that's a pretty smart mod.
Lithium
So this is the one I'm leaning toward the most right now. It's a 1971 GMC Jimmy. 1971 jimmy on Kijiji http://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/kelowna/1971-jimmy/1069176002 Thoughts?
JRC99
Just look for a 78-79 Bronco. Finding s rust free one is hard, but they're extremely reliable. And fairly cheap, too. Not to mention an insane aftermarket following. (Being a Bronco nut, I have to advise people to get one ) Edited May 31, 2015 by JRC99
