Frame-skipping when driving?

Hey guys, whenever I'm driving a vehicle, usually through populated areas, I get a split-second pause every few seconds. My frame-rate is usually always over 60, so it's a different issue entirely, just not sure what's responsible for it.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Specs:

780ti 3gb

i5 2550k 4.8GHz

8GB RAM

1920x1080

All mixed between High/Very High/Ultra, advanced graphics completely disabled. FXAA on, MSAA off, DX11.

I have this problem as well and I hear that it's quite common. As far as I'm aware there isn't a fix for it.

Its a long shot but i find lowering the quality of the grass quality helped me with performance considerably.

I dont know why it helped but it did.... maybe you could give it a go.... certainly not a concrete fix though.

(I7, 970GTX, 24gb ram)

OP, you might want to post your rig's specs, and what setting you are running the game on.

Are you using DX10.1? I found I got skipping on that at 60 FPS

DX11

Ah sorry, I can't help then! I guess the long winded way to be to turn all settings down, try the game, if it doesn't stutter then try max out one setting, try the game, etc etc. Until you can find which setting is causing it!

I have been having the same issue as well. Fps stays constant but there is just something that's wrong with the image, like the way you describe it.

I lowered the grass from very high to high and it seems to be better now btw but I have to so some testing.

That happens even with lowest settings at story mode with internet turned off? What "fixes" you already tried to fix it? Your fps drops start since you enter the game or only after a while playing? I have a fix which worked for me and some people but not work for everybody because the game looks have some aleatory stutter causes. My fix is for only one of the possible causes and yet is a test to discover if the lack of RAM is the cause of stutter/fps drop.

my friend is getting a similar issue. But he only has 2gb of VRAM and he was pushing his card at 2.5 gb of VRAM being used lol.

Lowering that helped, but there was still stutter. Might be a RAM issue since you both have only 8 gb of RAM. Though, i'd be surprised if 8 gb wasn't enough.

I get stutters as well, but only when I turn on "Self Radio"

For some reason at night if I leave Vinewood Hills heading straight in to Blaine County it lags then the FPS jumps right back. But if I do it at day time the FPS is just fine. Which is a bit odd because I think the FPS is better at night. I think it's just that one spot too.

It's definitively a Vram issue, I can vouch for that. Gta iV had something similar memory leak I think it

was, however here in Gta V with my experience and investigating the problem thoroughly I have

determined that it's Vram recycling witch is known to be a difficult thing to properly sort out

when writing game code, this will probably be patched, if one of those programmers

responsible gets paid enough to stay up and work overtime to implement that, we

can just hope they don't make it worse while doing so, like I said it's a

very difficult task.

I cant prove what I'm inferring to be the issue, witch I can interpret

from the game code, because it's copyrighted and I'm not going to

get my self banned from gta forums again, having been warned by

the moderator and admin team not to post or request copyrighted

materials while on this forum.

Have you tried switching input from Raw Input to DirectInput.

There have been reports of "FrameSkipping" and it was thanks to raw input.

I get constant 60 at the lowest and highest (v-sync) my rig can handle but even i suffer from this issue.

My stuttering occurs when my ram reaches 6.5-7 GB of usage......Before Starting GTAV its around 2 GB.I think its a RAM issue

I have even more skipping with DirectInput, mouse moving is stuttery as it's faster. What did improve it for me was disabling the Steam Overlay if you're on Steam.

It works fine for me most of the time, but I have had this issue before. However, whenever that starts to happen the game eventually crashes, as was the case yesterday. Restarting the game resolves this, at least for me, although I heard that it's persistent for many users. I hope there will be a permanent fix for this and a number of other random issues soon.
