Red Dead Redemption map on GTA V

Recommended Posts

Cannondalex911

Hi everyone,

I've read that it was almost impossible to convert the map of Red Dead Redemption on GTA IV, but what about on GTA V?

Anyone knows if it will be possible?

Thanks!

Why not? Is it one of those maps that`s made out of one giant texture?

They said the same thing about GTA V's map in IV. Joke's on them.

A better question to ask would be, why would you want it?

It'd be ugly as all hell, stretched out and just generally horrible. I love RDR as much (probably more than) the next guy, but come on, give it up already.

Why would it be stretched out and horrible? It'd be a nice, practically full-desert alternative. Nobody's forced to download it but the people who want to. Imagine jet-skiing to Mexico, re-visiting the Marston home, having a shootout in one of the banks, would be phenomenal.

This post, and the rest of Chipsman's posts in the thread should explain why it couldn't be done in GTA IV.

Something to do with shaders, layers, and blending. From my little understanding of how it works, I'm thinking of how the streets in GTA V have those extra bits of detail - like sand from a dirt road, or cracks and stuff. The actual road texture is just a normal road, but you have these other textures and details being layered over it. Apparently RDR did that, just like GTA V.

That's the strange thing though, people were able to bring V's map to IV, and V's map has more shaders and texture blends than IV I think.

Still, I'm not sure if it can be brought to V or not. I'm kind of surprised that people aren't jumping all over the possibility of bringing the map to GTA V. It's the only way people will ever get to play RDR on the PC, especially if there is ever a total conversion mod a la "Vice City Stories PC Edition."

And the people complaining about how low quality some of the textures will be, they could always be remastered/remade. But actually porting the map over and getting it to work would be a nice start.

Yes! I saw your topic cp1dell!

I'm really surprised, Red Dead Redemption is considered one of the most best game from Rockstar and it is so unfortunate that it is not on PC.

Throughout the years there has been progress here and there, although nothing concrete.

This tool let's you open RPF6 archives. Do note you need an AES key, (these are illegal to post, so look it up through google)

There was a tool which could extract models, terrain tiles and textures too I believe, Though the issue was, there was no UV data, so no texture coordinates. The name of the tool was Noesis, though I believed they removed RDR support altogether, so if you want to check it out, you have to dig up an older version. A guy I know imported all the terrain tiles inside Unity. As you can see, it's hardly recognizable as there are no textures.

I have most of the game's textures, no idea how I got it, I just do. 2.313 textures in total

You can find more information about the research done on RDR on Xentax (this is just 1 topic, there are probably more)

Other than that, you can extract the audio from the PS3 version by using this tool.

This is something I would definitely love to see. I was a huge fan of RDR when I had it on 360 and since it's not on PC it would be great to play it like this.

I was waiting for the creation of such a topic :)

I just want to announce that we (OpenIV team) have plans to add RDR support into public OpenIV later this year and we will work for a RDR map convertion with the community.

But it will be later.

Now we are working on GTAV formats research and as next step after it will be done we are going to convert Liberty City.

So stay tuned

So, basically you think you've already found a way to convert the Libert city map? Or are you just assuming it might be possible? Either way, awesome job!

There was a rumor about Liberty City DLC for GTA V (Online), if Rockstar release such kind of DLC, obviously we will not make our Liberty City convert.

But for now, we are working on openFormats for GTA V models, obviously we need to have possibility to edit GTA V models and map files (.ytype & .ymap). When we will have those two things done we will start working on converter.

Working on .odr openFormats. I suppose it's just a start and you don't have any progress. Good luck on that, 2016 will be a good year for V modding.

No, we start a long time ago, and we already have some progress.
