Grand Theft Auto V [PC~ULTiMATE~PERFORMANCE~TiPS]

Recommended Posts

This is for all the noob's that couldn't figure how to maximize performance on their own and don't know what hardware is capable of witch performance or quality settings, even the pro's could learn something here.

:rampage: "iTRiP' :rampage:

1. Restart your PC before you run GTA V.

2. Close unnecessary tasks with Task~Manager [CTRL+ALT+DEL] before you play GTA V.

3. Don't ALT+TAB while playing GTA V.

4. Use the default graphics auto configured presents and work your way up to better quality and performance.

5. Inspect your Windows Fire~Wall to iron out internet lag.

6. Use some software like EVGA precision or MSi afterburner to keep your GPU temps in check.

7. And last but not least this is my bonus performance tip: When you have done all the above and started a new instance of Grand Theft Auto V, when you get to the main menu change your VSYNC setting to OFF then hit apply, if you are like me and don't like screen tearing then turn it back ON again and hit apply, do this every time before you start a story mode or online game, if your stuff is setup properly and even if you normally play with vsync on you should notice a fps increase of around 20~100 fps from the default.

Please post below if you know any other performance tips.

Don't alt-tab out of the game?

I seriously do not see how this decreases performance, I do it all the time and see no performance drops at all.

This game has times where i have to alt+tab to unlock it from 30 FPS. Alt+Tabbing IMPROVES my FPS :) just saying.

Most of your tips don't have any significant impact on performance. Here's what I did to improve performance:

http://www.mcci.com/mcci-v5/support/howtos4.html

Thanks "Barret_killz" for adding what has slipped my mind, increase even more by applying that tweak to all drives.

even the pro's could learn something here.

i lolled

"SideshowRock" I'm glad my only ability isn't just helping people with pc performance, but making them smile as well.

"Rhayen420" You probably have your vsync set to half in the settings menu or your gpu control panel in your operating system isn't setup properly and what you probably don't what to hear is you are overtaxing your gpu with the settings you have applied if it's not one of the above mentioned things plaguing your performance with that lock you speak of.

This is a problem reported in other areas of the forums to. People have to disable and re-enable VSync in game options to make it go back to normal. In my case i was using the VSync in Nvidia, and it was not set to half. A prime example was outside of Travors Trailer. For some reason at certain angles my FPS would drop from locked 60 to locked 30. Not a FPS decrease to 30, but LOCKED. I would alt tab out, alt tab in and it would be back to 60 at any angle.

I now use Adaptive VSync from Nvidia Ctrpl and it does a much better job, haven't had the 30FPS locked problem. However there will be a trade off for some slight tearing now and then. But not as bad as VSync off completely

Trust in "iTRiP" I am the master of performance, of course not every one's pc is effected by atl+tab performance loss.

Probably only people with 1024Mb's or less GPU Ram, and the ones that have Windows aero set to full blast.

So obviously he has mastered the universe. We can only be grateful that he shares his infinite wisdom with plebs like us.

Those people bragging about "ultimate performance solutions" really have to get their cocks cut off by uncle Vlad.

I appreciate the tips, thanks. Only problem is there's like a million different tips out there for performance. What do you listen to? And will it even be relevant after the next patch? It's all rather confusing.

I will say though, alt/tabbing out of a game is a bad move with some, perhaps most games. The game cannot have all the available resources it needs sometimes when you do this. Example being fallout new Vegas. It refuses to above 2 gb of ram when you do this, even when modded.

So that advice is sound, I can definitely vouch for that.

Oh, the Grand Master of Performance Tips, bless me with your infinitive knowledge and tell me, why in those 7 tips that you have so patiently carved into stone plates and gave to us, mortal humans, ooh how come I did everything you asked for and gained not even one frame per second? Are you a fake prophet or my will and beliefs are not strong enough?

Try to remove system32 folder and try to believe in those stones.

Please post below if you know any other performance tips.

1. no need to restart the PC.. Just close your softwares, and disconnect from the session, and re-open it, to launch GTA V or Online. Or MUCH better, make a (local) session for gaming (with only minimal processes & services for games). and in this case, disconnect from your "work, home or multimedia session" to connect in your (local) "Game session" (there are many tutorials on the Web, to create another session with much less processes and services for One session, without consequences on other session(s)).

And take care to install some softwares only for "one user" and not "for everyone" (when it's possible) to avoid to have a (useless) "Print Manager from HP" (for example) in your "gaming session".

2. Yep, but no need to do this, if "we" have a "Game session"

3. huh... In contrary, when I go to search some info on the web (about GTA V or Online) while i'm playing, and after I "Alt+Tab" to be back on GTA V or Online, the performances are at least identical or better (it's refresh the display and the Graphic Card).

4. don't understand... lol If you're talking about default graphic settings, then ok... but by default the settings are sh*t (800x600, and normal everywhere for me ...... Oh yes i see it's an optimized game.. LOL), but yes in these conditions, of course GTA V runs fine.... even GTA IV was better in this case (better performance & quality....).

5. Don't use any Firewall from windows or third party software. Use and learn to use your Router (it's a router then it's a hardware firewall, much powerful, much secure, fully configurable (if your ISP or Router manufacturer block the access to the settings, then change of ISP or Router) and This kind of router (and firewall) don't consume resources from your windows nor from your PC, it only use the resource from your router, which running with its own mini-OS (linux in 90% of cases)).

6. Oh LOL... you're talking about "ULTiMATE PERFORMANCE" and you talk to use a f*cking third party software, totally useless ..... MSI Afterburner and EVGA precision, consume more resources from your PC.... don't hope some better performances in this case. Stupid advice !

These softwares are ok for the owners of MSI and EVGA hardware (and for big mouths who like play the experts on the forum...) but only for benchmarking or OC...

Oh yes, display the temp while you're playing is very useful for performances (while this kind of "layers" are very greedy in terms of resources: CPU and GPU...).

Seriously, go back on reedit to give some stupid advices like this...

7. Ok but it's not a tip for performance, it's a tip to "fix" the issue from Rage Engine. It's not a tip nor a solution, the solution is: Rockstar must release a patch !

But yes, even the pro and smart people continue to learn every day, but it's very nice too when ignorant try to learn too and stop to play the experts on the web, talking about the use of third softwares to have some better performances (for example) while these softwares are for controls, benchs, checks, tweaks and manage the Overclocking... oh yes, it's very funny...

1. This is too stupid for me to even criticize.

2. Gee, thanks Sherlock. Who would've guessed that running the game and 100 other programs at the same time could impact performance (besides everybody).

3. Good luck with that. It's the only way to fix V-Sync for AMD users apparently.

4. Yeah I don't think so. If you have a good GPU with low VRAM that might make sense, but if you have a crappy GPU with high VRAM the game will usually juice up the graphics higher than your PC can actually handle while still performing well.

5. Game is added as an exception automatically.

6. Your GPU shouldn't need any 3rd party software to keep cool. If it overheats, something is wrong.

7. You could also just turn it off completely and enable it from the driver.
