Thank god Iggy Azelia is nowhere near GTA. If they ever added her I might have to join the critics against V. Lana Del Rey would have been good in the game but the only Iggy that should be anywhere near GTA is Iggy Pop. If you want good modern music you pretty much have to go underground for the most part. In about another year she will probably be looked at as the female Vanilla Ice.

Well...

 

I heard a lot of known artists on the radio that have songs in GTA V.

Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, Rihanna, BJ the Chicago kid, YG, etc. have modern songs in the game and they are far from underground like those in Radio Mirror Park.

 

I agree with you though that there should be EDM, but having modern pop on, like universetwisters said, would cost an arm and a leg (french expression meaning: a lot) to R* and they would not be able to spend that money on fixing bugs and creating new DLCs.

BEP is dead, Lady Gaga has faded away, while the Maroon 5 song they chose is too old.

 

Listen to a pop radio station, you're unlikely to hear many of the songs that are on NSP. Here's a list of artists that GTA V should have an order for the game too feel appropriately modern:

 

Arctic Monkeys

Lana Del Rey

Ariana Grande

Avicii

Ellie Goulding

Deadmau5

Iggy Azalea

Imagine Dragons

Sam Smith

Meghan Trainor

Eminem

OneRepublic

Daft Punk

etc.

 

'Modern' here is defined as having come out within the last year or two. If a song was released in 2006-2009, that's pretty old considering it was last decade. The soundtrack should reflect our era in the same way that Vice City's soundtrack reflected the 80s. There's no excuse for this, as R* sitting on a practically unlimited supply of money for their games.

You know the game is set in 2013, right? So it's only natural for there to be no Meghan Trainor (thank F*ck) or any Iggy Azalea, as they've only surfaced in the past year.

 

So I wouldn't really be too quick to call the songs "old" especially when most of them were new at the time of release

If a free-to-play Xbox One exclusive can get a ton of modern pop songs, there's no reason why R* can't when they're one of the richest game developers.

Uh, it's free-to-play as in it's free to download. You still have to pay money to buy all the songs (which is about 75% of the game).

This one has been kinda bugging me. They have tons of radio stations but hardly any modern music that isn't by some underground artist. What kind of Pop station still plays The Black Eyed Peas? It would've made perfect sense in 2009 when people actually liked them, but who would actually admit it now? Or another example, how many people here have actually heard Me & U on the radio since 2006? Also, where's the EDM? That's a major part of modern culture, especially in LA. Who still listens to Techno?

Me. I will say it straight into your faces, f*ck MODERN MUSIC! In my honest opinion it's pure garbage. The real talent lies in oldschool underground music. Of course if fans want modern music in GTA games, then okay, no problem, as long as Rockstar would also add at least one radio with oldschool/underground music.
