Open IV plugin won't work with common.rpf

I am having trouble modding the common.rpf file.

open iv says you need asi loader and OpenIV plugin(and I do) but when I enter the game, on the intro I get an error saying:

OPEN IV GTA V RPF PLUGIN

[FiPackfile::openArchive] bad magic 0x00000000

I really need to replace a file within common.rpf for performance reasons

Try to remove OpenIV.asi & dinput8.dll from your GTAV folder then run OpenIV go to edit mode and click on Install button.

If it will not work show your OpenIV.log file.

ghostriderjoker1839

now i get an error sayng

[fiPackfile::openArchive] 'dlcpacks:\mpchristmas2\dlc.rpf', bad magic 0x00000000

and log file says

On openIV 618 2.6

x64e is the archive I was modifying.

What exactly did you do to fix it ghostrider?

Edited by DaGengster

i've been seeing a lot of the 'bad magic' error codes floating around didn't think

much about it until it happened to me. i found a fix for the issue by replacing

the corrupt files with uncorrupt files from an untouched version of GTAV. not

sure if there's already a thread on it somewhere, if so....my bad.

have gtav installed on your main hdd and a separate installation on another

internal hdd that you keep untouched and use it to replace corrupt files with

identical uncorrupted files. i instsalled GTAV onto a secondary internal hdd

and can switch between them with openiv to extract clean versions of the

problem files on my primary hdd. thats two different installations of GTAV, one

to play and mod with, the other to use as a backup to harvest/replace files as

needed. openiv has a built in option for switching the GTAV directory.

switch openiv between the two installations:

tools > options > game tab > change directory > browse for the GTAV folder >restart openiv when prompted

you may need to switch back and forth between the two GTAV folders using

the above method multiple times. this method is still way faster than

reinstalling the game from scratch and adding all your mods agian. be careful

to back up what you are working on so that nothing gets lost and you have to

end up reinstalling the game again, starting over with the modding process.

the 'bad magic' error message will have the path to the corrupt file. follow it

until you find the file name and click on the file to make sure you have the one

you are looking for.

when you first use openiv on the secondary GTAV folder and click on the EDIT

button you will be prompted to install the openiv.asi file. after you are set,

navigate to the file(s) that showed up in the pop up window error message. in

my case there were several files that needed to be replaced. after extracting a

file and replacing it another would pop up when starting the game. you can

click on all the files in the directory of the corrupt file one at a time to see if an

error message pops up within openiv. if so replace those files as well so you

don't have to keep launching the game to find out there is another corrupt file.

*****the most important thing is to BACKUP often*****
