Female Protagonist. How do you want her to be?

I want to see a female police officer character. Intelligent, sarcastic (maybe a bit like Niko in that way), but also very dangerous. The police force is insanely corrupt. For a while she's almost working as a double-agent, until she's figured out by another cop, then she has to retreat into the criminal underworld and thus begins the core part of the game.

I think Michelle/Karen would be the perfect candidate for that .

I'd like a character more in line with Kate Beckett from the show Castle. Smart, tough, totally bad ass and intimidating, doesn't stand down, but also not totally wholesome like Beckett is either, since she would be a GTA protagonist after all.

25-30 I think. Not so young that she'd be just another stupid kid. At least somewhat establlished in life. Definitely sarcastic. Psycho can be fun, but as a main character she would need some sort of intelligence/sanity.

 

I would love to see a female GTA protagonist some day. Not 'just 'cuz' (which is a stupid outlook in itself). Would like to see a different approach to the series. And male hookers! ;D

 

Or at least, a blank slate character that you can call your own. :3

it wouldn't be terrible to be able to customize a female protagonist a bit. you couldn't maybe go into the detail this poll has gone into, but i personally would love playing, kill bill; the game. gta has needed a female protagonist for ages; in tandem with a male one, for those who just plain can't stand it. in fact, i'd replace franklin with a girl in like two seconds. i'd even replace him with his aunt.

 

the potential for awesome is limitless.

 

 

 

 

 

edited to add, inb4 that argument pops up that 'a woman couldn't pull a dude out of a car to jack him.' my wife is five-foot-two and is an e.r. trauma nurse. every night she wrestles guys like trevor into restraints.

Why do people even want a female protagonist?

 

Also, with these feminists who target video games. It's obvious it will attract alot of controversy.

 

I see the headlines "GTA tries to show women are violent!" "GTA shows women as murderers! Which is only what men can be!"

i can only speak for me, but i would like a female protagonist because i think it would be fun. that's pretty much the only reason. but, if i had to think of additional reasons:

 

idealogically i'd like one because i'm NOT a feminist, and i DO play the game, and it would be so badass, if it didn't suck. also a nice change. it's not like we are talking about every gta game into forever.

 

aesthetically i'd like one because girls are totally fun to look at, and trevor's recurring junk freaks a lot of you guys out, or so you have posted.

 

emotionally i'd like one because empathy.

the guys who also made V did RDR and IV, two games that are well written, they can always get back in track.

the guys who also made V did RDR and IV, two games that are well written, they can always get back in track.That was 2008 and 2010 before V , so the writers are bound to be different , but I think they can still do much better .

They probably couldn't- which is my only issue with the idea.

 

I think to do it justice they would be best to hire some well -rounded female writers for a role like that. I do a little creative writing in my spare time, and I think trying to get into the headspace of the opposite gender can be problematic. It's why there are so few well written female leads, I think at least.

 

If they can't do a full female protagonist, then again, a blank slate would be great. A character you can customize that would fit into the story from either side.

 

*shrugs* I always admired saints row for this. The characters aren't the best in a series, but I could relate to the 'boss' in female form at times. :3

you're right. which is partly why i would enjoy seeing them actually try. even if it did end up being a novelty, there is always the potential for it to come out pretty damn good.

 

misogyny is kind of inevitable in a two-dimensional story setting, and when the focus is on fast cars, cash, and wimminz, obviously the wimminz will take the same shape as the other booty, no pun intended. BUT, with the depth that this recent game has reached socially (consider the gay-related stuff, and how, while it is funny and ribald and somewhat depreciating, is not really all that homophobic), i feel like there really is a possibility that the same misogyny the game seems to have now could be turned into pretty much the same thing, possibly. if you had asked me right after s.a. came out if gta could sustain a female protag, i'd have said no. but after iv, i've thought differently.

 

 

picking up hookers edit: while you wouldn't pick up hookers as a female (women are notoriously low for paying for sex, statistically), there is nothing to say you couldn't go into a bar and score some free dick for the night. easier than getting a hooker in your car, frankly. AND there is the added thrill of, will your trick turn out violent and you have to kick his ass and rob him?

I would like to see a female protagonist, as long as it's part of a trio again. I never minded female protags. One of my favorite games as a kid was tomb raider. I never even thought twice about the fact that she was a chick, I still don't honestly. She's a total bad ass simple as that. I don't think she's sexy, ugly, annoying.. anything. She's just a person who explores tombs and shoots beasts.

Call me a Misognyst, but I couldn't imagine a Female Character in GTA. It's pretty wierd to see a Female character beat the f*ck out of a Roid guy using raw fist power, and while moving like a tough guy in cutscenes in Online (Online's own problem using Male animations, but still). Same with Saints Row, it just feels off like hell.

I'm not saying there aren't Female criminals, but I doubt they do the dirty jobs.
