GTA: Carcer City - converting the MH map to SA!

@CCMM - it's as aid throughout the plot that Michael used to live and rob sh*t throughout the Midwest. It seems unlikely for him to go all the way to Jersey or Maryland, wherever just for his first robbery.

Maybe he moved to the Midwest...

I rember a few times he stated he was born in the Midwest.

A building that needs to be included is Cassidy’s bargain firearms emporium.Phil from vice city owns this place in carcer city.One of the CCswat guys mentions how he is suppose to take his son there.

I've connected levels today..

I did a few more levels, going to make sure you can visit the mansion interiors and maybe even buy that property...

Anyways, I've done alot of work in adding rooftops, connecting levels on my own now..

 

UT and Dave have quit so it's just me then...

Because a while ago, the project was pretty much dead and I concluded that I didn't want to sit around and wait for something to happen. That and when the thing started up again, I realized I didn't agree with the principles in the mod, such as blindly converting everything from Manhunt, how the mod was designed to be more for SOL rather than it's own entity, and moreso how there's so much emphasis now on having to specifically base Carcer City on a certain place rather than making up your own. There isn't much creativity anymore it seems, which is why I'm getting less and less interested in GTA modding.

 

I can't speak for TheD, but last me and him spoke, we felt the same way about the long waits.

True....

 

I was working on Underground a bit more so this project kinda didnt get much attention.

Right now I have been working on connecting levels, adding custom content around them, and I'm making sure that it all fits together. I'm just basing it off.. Itself.

How much better could it be? I mean, basing Carcer City on... Just Carcer. I've read about the flaming river, Phil's crooked gun shop, i'm working on these places soon, i've got alot of levels being connected already and it kinda fits well too.

 

The two scrapyard levels are now connected to the trainyard level, which is connected to the weasel level and the journo level, which is being connected to the subway level, and then to der2 and derelict.

 

Then we've got - the flaming river right next to the trainyard level, and at the other side... the zoo levels connected, and the church level being connected to the pharm_wks level. I've managed to connect alot of levels, added alot of interior levels and made them enter-able too.

 

I've got some neat ideas for Phil's crooked gun shop, maybe I could add it at the poor side of Carcer, near the mansion level and the church level.

I'll try to add some newer area's like UT's suburbs later on.

And then most of the last page was trying to base Carcer off a real place. THIS CITY HAS SUBWAYS, LETS MAKE IT BASED ON THAT. Whatever happened to being creative and making your own places up without trying too hard to make it like real life?

 

But then again, it seemed as though we both had different intentions on how this would go from the start. I wanted a custom, genetic city on its own, you wanted something with many conversions that can fit into SOL. Nothing wrong with that, just miscommunication from the start it seems.

The whole thing with the subways as you say lets base it off that is philly/camden has pretty much 90% off what carcer has,subways,zoo,corrupt cop scandals,approximate distance from LC,etc,etc,so its not just one thing its alot of things,hell even the river fire thing happened in the 70s.So using it as a base i think is a good thing.

 

 

Now with that being said i understand that the 3d era stuff was not always accurate which opens the door to its own interpretations.I get that,but if you are going to make it why not make it right,no sense on half assing it is all im saying.Regardless whatever it ends up should be a memorable experience for the player.I picture driving from LC to there coming over a small mountain or horizon revealing the city to the player for there 1st time as what the hell is this place,seeing this dark grimy city skyline,with a river burning and a layer of smog.It a place were you sit stopped in a car to long a ped will run up and steal your ride.Thats kinda what carcer is to me in my mind anyway.

 

 

Im not the one making it,you guys are,so make it how ever you want im only pointing out stuff to help fill in some of the blanks on what the place is kinda like.

I am basing CC on itself for now.

That reminds me a lot of this. Either way, I'm still interested seeing how it turns out. Maybe I'll come back, who knows.

I think I won you guys an explanation why I've left the project. CC started really nicely, but then, as UT stated, all the works suddenly stopped and I didn't know if the project is dead, temporarily suspended or I work too fast and try to do too much. Later, I've got few smaller problems in my real life and it turned out I don't have enough free time to work on any bigger projects. Days went by, I've reorganized my remaining free time to actually not live like a machine, you know - wake up - eat - work - eat - sleep.

I wish dkluin and Carcer City mod all the best, but sadly, I can't keep contributing to the project.

Basing CC on some real city, doesn´t mean the lack of creativity. I mean at least the geographical location of the city should be specified, so the timecyc and vegitation feat the location.

Basing CC on some real city, doesn´t mean the lack of creativity. I mean at least the geographical location of the city should be specified, so the timecyc and vegitation feat the location.

There's quite a difference between saying "We're basing it in the northeast/Midwest/coal belt/rust belt" and then saying "we're basing it on Baltimore/Camden/Schenectady". The first is a region, which has what you mention, geographic locations, vegetation, etc. while the second are actual cities, which was going on a lot a page or so ago.

I'm working as hard as I can on this mod...

 

I've discovered some cool facts that I forgot about...

 

The levels were a bit misplaced, but I've fixed that now.

I wish this mod would become something like Grand Carma, where one dude connected all the maps from a racing game for San Andreas. :)

But it looks like this project will be left incomplete, just like GTA:Berlin.

 

Hopefully you get this map done. Do not think you are a major design studio or something like that.

Just sketch up the map, roughly, and share it with dedicated people that will give you feedback, and inspiration.

Sorry for the late reply, and thank you. I've got a correct level map done while reading wiki articles and I found out that my map was a bit inaccurate so I solved it.

I'm going to connect the levels, open these up and finish up the buildings.

 

Then I could connect everything up and CC is done.

Ah its been a while again since I've visited this topic, sorry about that.

 

I'm going to start working on this mod sometime soon, the thing is, modelling CC is a time consuming process so it would require something to base it on.

 

I've noticed that Camden will be the final descision to go with, since it fits CC's description well.

I could make a road layout to see how I would make a 3d era version on this.

Then, placing in the levels like how they were supposed to be connected, and to finish it off, connecting levels perfectly to the roads.

And afterwards, the other stuff could be done aswell..

 

However, I won't work on this project untill my other project "SOL Underground" is done, which will feature this map since the goal of that project is to unite all of the 3d era mentioned/custom locations which could be visited.

Ah its been a while again since I've visited this topic, sorry about that.

To be more precise Camden and Phily, Camden itself is to small to feat CC. In real life Camden and Phily are situated near each other, so should be no problem to see tham as a single city.
