So I noticed that even with the car deformation mods, the passenger cell (containing the dashboard, steering wheel, seats, squishy humans, and doors still stay entirely intact.

 

Any theories for why it is like that, and is there anything we can do about it at this time, or is this BS something we'll have to wait on - becuase it is embedded in the models themselves?

Hi how did u manage to make the mod work??My ones had no effect even with the scripthook and asi loader

The reason is because of cockpit view which R* added with the next gen versions. The passenger cell can't deform or it would clip through the camera (because apparently R* saw this as a problem...). I expect we'll have a fix for it fairly soon.

I'd say the interior deformation is a secondary concern compared to roof and door exteriors. Going from smashing a car with a crowbar from PS3 to PC is depressing. I would imagine that the deformation that PS3 still has (and PS4/XB1 before heist update... right?) is still in the code, or rather, needs some extra code deleted. I see IV has option to select PS3 to browse files but I don't have blu-ray, otherwise I would try to compare some files line by line to see if the difference can be found, like in vehicle_apply_damage.fxc or whatever the file actually is. I'm no coder though, somebody will figure it out soon I'm guessing, mods seem to be growing exponentially at this point.

I guess another reason for that is to prevent player's head clipping through the roof.

The reason is irrelevant, the point is, can it eventually be fixed? I suspect not, if Rockstar for some idiotic reason baked it into the game rather than changed a configuration file value. But I really hope I'm wrong, because the amazing car damage has always been the best feature of GTA and it's really pathetic how all that work was just dropped in V.
