[V|REL] Increased cascade shadow distance

2. It has to do with soft shadows. Increasing the box size enlarges the blur effect. We could compensate by decreasing the blurred shadow setting in the shadow settings menu.

 

 

And bingo. I increased the box size even further, this time to 3.5000 (1.0000 default)

So, softer shadows at 3.5000 = Softest shadows default. It's a rather dirt tweak, but it works

It looks better on foot, but it brakes immersion while in vehicle (look at the spoiler).

So increasing the "sharpen distance" or shadow cascade value, also affects how sharp/soft the shadows are? What's the exact correlation between soft shadows settings and cascade distance?

Maybe clearing and smog weather aren't so important to create sharp looking edges due to small direct lighting values.

Actually the cascade filtering itself is not that annoying. The problem is, sometimes you can see the box without any shadows around

It's more evident while in motion - Maybe it have something to do with anisotropic filtering?

That issue is easily fixable. All you have to do is change a graphics setting in the menu and change it back. I found that this trick works for things such as:

-The shadow box.

-If water on the edge of the screen appears to be glowing.

-Lower FPS and lag spikes. (I have to do this every time I start the game. After, it is silky smooth.)

-Shadows are not meeting up with their object. I noticed a motorcycle where the bike tires had no shadow where the tires touched the ground. This fixed it.

What are you talking about? There are several of these threads talking about this box and "changing a graphics setting" has never worked for any of us.

Nope. Not on my side at least. You could try asking the guys at VisualV thread, if anyone have any info about shadow cascading tweaking, it's them.

So, I was just thinking. When you use AMD soft shadows, it looks the best. It doesn't have the distance bug that Nvidia soft shadows have. When you turn on high resolution shadows, the AMD soft shadows look quite sharp.

 

So, maybe the AMD soft shadows + high resolution shadows is the ticket to a large shadow cascade along with shadows that are sharp near the casting object, and blur further away.

Sorry for bumping the thread. But all links are dead : ( 

I tried to make them 3.5000 by myself but it rendered the game glitched with black or green color. I wander what I did wrong. 2.5000 works fine though. 

So can please anyone reupload properly edited weather files with 3.5000 values?
