Hey, I would like to revert the ambient occlusion to the original settings. Is that just hbaosettings.xml?

Or is it also modified somewhere else?

Look, Sorry for saying that but.....VisualV really and i mean really broke my shadows, now it looks fuzzy and I need to be near it for it to look good again. Do you know how to fix it?

Yep, I'm workin' on another fix for cascades, I'll post screens in few minutes.

 

 

What is better for you? Worser shadow quality but further shadow cascade rendering or better shadow quality but shorter shadow cascade rendering?

Shadows with futher cascade rendering have worser quality in first person and while driving.

I totally disagree, higher quality shadows is what makes the cascade so apparent. I personally would prefer higher range and worse quality.

That's why higher cascade distance > shadow quality. Not to mention non-sunlight shadows are extremely bad whatever graphical option you have enabled.

This is also one of the reasons why 'Mod Community Graphics' has been popular, he just maxed the cascade distance and didn't mention the loss of quality (or did not notice it).

 

EDIT: Here's an example of the non-sunlight shadows on very high shadows (enabling high-res shadows or changing any settings won't affect it).

Make it optional. I personally don't mind having worse shadow quality because seeing that damn cascade is worse in my book. Much more noticeable than the shadows looking slightly blurrier (which isn't noticeable with Nvidia PCSS and the effect can be reduced by simply turning down soft shadows.)

R*'s never been good at creating better shadows. Is this RAGE's fault or just R*'s monkey-level coding with bananas in theit mouth?

You'd need to copy over the changes from that mod's Visual Settings file to this one. Not sure how compatible it would be.

 

On that topic, for the next version of the mod, could you make your own version of these changes, like a stronger helicopter searchlight and brighter sirens and headlights, please?

well if your're not sure which weather pattern it is what was the point of posting the image to complain about the look of something that there isnt a problem with? the one shot looks like a hazy humid afternoon and the other looks to be the same time of day yet it is not hazy but clear skies because the weather is clear that day. i think maybe people are seeing blue skies as out of the ordinary because for the most part all you see in the vanilla game is haziness.

It's the exact same weather pattern, but I'm not sure how to see which one exactly because it occurred randomly (made a quicksave and compared modded and unmodded). And funny how you're complaining yourself. Take your own advice and stop bitching about other people's posts, thanks.

 

And the main issue is the shadows being way too faint, which makes the game world look flat.

The sun is covered by clouds so lighting is weaker, there is no shadows in this place in this time.

Hey _CP_, do you know which timecyc or visualsettings.dat parameters control how far away bokeh can be seen from? I've increased the size of the bokeh so that it looks more apparent, but it only appears on cars that are pretty close to the camera.

Do you have any idea how the min/max for each value works? Because I've noticed on a lot of things that "min" is actually a higer number than "max", which of course seems like it's the wrong way around?
