Future DLC Suggestion: Long Haul Trucking

This is an idea I had after noticing you couldn't buy, store, or modify big rigs in game, a DLC pack that allows players to buy, store, and modify semi-trucks, as well as adds a new heist to the game, themed around big rigs and trailer hauling. I'll try to lay this idea out as clearly and coherently as I can, and lay out how these addons could be used to their full potential, while adding some space to work for possible future DLC projects that may arise.

First big bit of this would definitely be storing large vehicles, like semi-trucks, this could also be used as a way of fixing the "car too tall=busted windshield" glitch you get every time you move a big tall truck like the guardian or the sand king into your garage. It would start by adding a new type of garage into the game, either as a replacement of the current garage system, or possibly, as a new type simply added into the game, that allows you to store large vehicles, like the Packer, The Phantom, The Hauler, the Vapid Guardian and SandKings, and possibly even open a new storage space for future DLCs that would allow players to buy their own versions of vehicles like the Stockade Armored Truck, The Military Barracks, re-dressed as a civilian version, a civvy version of the HVY Barracks Semi, and Even the Police Riot, armored or unarmored not saying this is gonna happen, just that I'd love to see it happen, complete with heaps of customization options.

Now the next bit, for me anyway, is the really important one, giving players the ability to customize and personalize Semi-Trucks they either buy or steal. Again, the big hurdle here, as far as I'm aware would be making the Los Santos Customs Shops big enough to fit these Semi-Trucks, now this could be as simple as just making the bays a bit taller and adding customization options to The Big Rigs eg. custom stacks, bull bars, sun visors, custom wheels, custom grilles, custom marker lights, custom horns ect. This could be used to add additional truck horns to the game, cuz just one, for me, isn't enough to pick from, and I love truck horns. Another solution to this problem that would require a bit more doing, would be adding a new type of custom shop to the game in the form of a Large Vehicle custom shop, which caters only to large vehicles that won't fit in a Los Santos Customs Garage.

As for the online heist Idea, this I'm a little less clear on, the basic idea I have in my head at the moment, is hijacking a high priority shipment of something, worth alot of money, guarded by either the military, merryweather, or as a last idea to fall back on, a gang group, maybe The Lost MC or The Vagos, I dunno. The setup for the heist would include stealing a new type of Semi-Truck, either a big, powerful armored one, sort of like what was done with the Kuruma, with a non-armored version also available to buy once the heist has been completed by players, complete with a nice big selection of customization options, allowing players to personalize, and customize their rig as they see fit.

The heist could go many ways from here, players could be made to collect a helicopter to either provide cover to the ground team handling the truck, or provide an additional ground team in an armored vehicle, possibly a Gunned Insurgent stolen from Merryweather in the setup, with a modification that allows it to smash through roadblocks to clear the way for the truck team eg. a Bulldozer Blade, Steel Plow, or set of Bull Bars on It's front, this would also carry over into the main Online portion of the game as a modification that can be applied to the gunned Insurgent, and the non-gunned Insurgent as well, adding a bit more to what players can do with those vehicles.

If the ground team approach is the way to go, this DLC could also add a new element to the Insurgents in the form of an additional spot for another player in the bed of the gunned version, giving them the ability to provide anti-air cover from a seated position with a missile launcher, as well as make the non-gunned Insurgent's top hatch function in this same way, allowing players to stick their head up, and shoot whatever weapon they choose, possibly with the exception of the minigun.

All in all, this DLC would Add alot of stuff in one go, it would bring the possibility of ownership and customization of large vehicles into effect, fix a few small glitches with the current garage system, add a new, crazy fun heist to the game with lots of explosions, guns, and custom trucks, all the good stuff, and It could potentially lay the foundations for more work to be built upon it in the future.

If anyone from Rockstar sees this, let me know what you think, I have a few other Ideas I'd love to share if you're interested.

I have a feeling we may see a truck ownership DLC in the future, I don't know why it keeps happening but I keep having dreams about GTA V, probably because I play it so much huh. Anyway I saw a loading banner which had a picture of a Phantom and the text said something about owning and customising the Trucks.

I also once saw my character in a 50s pickup on a map that I didn't recognise, the wierd thing was this was before the Festive surprise update and it turns out I was in a Slamvan. The map I was on looked like Los Santos but more coastal, not sure what it means but I guess we'll see in the future.

I'd probably combine this with some sort of biker addition, so it would be more of a road warrior concept, but I like the idea.

One way to get around the garage clearances is to do it like IV did with the parking spaces. So you would be able to store your truck at, lets say, a truck stop. Now there's only a couple of spots on the map that would handle it, but it would be doable. Same with the mods, drive up to a marker near the truckstop and add the mods.

I could see it happening, but I think most people would like the Casino, Nightclubs, and other venues opened up first before a truck stop.

I like the road warrior idea, Lost MC would do nicely for that role, as for the parking spaces, it doesn't fit with the online way you store cars and trucks right now. I'd like to see Rockstar either work up a new type of garage players can buy and use to store larger than normal vehicles, or simply give the current ones we have more clearance so My Guardian's Windshield doesnt explode every time I put it away.

Slamvan is another vehicle I wouldnt mind seeing some more customization options for, maybe a change of grille, an ability to give it the actual van back like the lost MC have on theirs, maybe some hot-rod style exhaust pipes that can be made to stick either out of the side of the hood, or run down along the side of the truck.

I'd like the idea of trucking in V, I remember doing it in a rp server in SAMP

I enjoyed the trucking missions in SA and it would be nice to store tricked-out trucks. This could incorporate both.

Where would you put the yard?

Dont Really Know, but I'm thinking a large garage rather than a yard for large vehicle storage, less fettling to be done for rockstar if it sticks with the current way vehicles are stored

There's plenty space for a yard in Blaine County

I think it's an awesome idea. There could be a LOT of missions around driving a truck under different conditions and down various roads. Some of those narrow mountain roads would be HILARIOUS in a big truck.

I'd like to see the option to have the semi-tractor as a vehicle, but then be able to pick up different trailers depending on cargo.

I'd also like to see the tanker-trailers (when full of petrol) be truly explosive. That would definitely add some bang to the equation.

TL;DR

conclusions ?

TL;DR version:

I wanna buy big rigs, I wanna customize big rigs, I wanna store big rigs, and I wanna heist with big rigs.

this would be good to see make its way into the game as well along side a heist themed around big rigs as an additional way to make money for players, and possibly as a way to unlock upgrades for their truck

sounds like a good idea.

although i hope they add allow us to make the trucks go fast. not super car fast but still somewhat fast. maybe a mod that would cost 100k. imagine the first few weeks in Los Santos after an update like this, everyone driving really fast armored semi's crashing into everything.

also they should give the tanker trailers an option to let go of the tanker so any car behind us would get blown up.

If they unrealistically spice up the trucks then it would be a lot of fun.

I really fancy the idea of a 'trucking DLC', but apart from the Heists idea, I think there should be regular trucking missions open in the lobbies. And these missions should vary depending on the vehicle you use, anything from a pick up, to a van, a flatbed, a mule, all the way up to a tractor unit....

All you do is get in your truck, ring a trucking company and they offer the job. The vast majority would require an investment of around 2 to 5 thousand for insurance purposes and pay double, so 4 to 10 thousand plus your initial insurance deposit returned. It would be a good but not brilliant way to make money, especially with trigger happy idiots lurking around the free lobbies.

The vast majority of trucking jobs would run to and from the LS docks area, but suitable destinations are all over the map, from loading bays for smaller vehicles, such as the Go Postal depot in Vinewood, to trailer parking bays at sites like the Clucking Bell factory in Paleto Bay.

The sheer variety of jobs would mean it would make a pleasant cash generator and everyone would try it in every vehicle possible.

One word of warning though, the initial outlays for insurance would be higher than the current LS Customs limit. A basic tractor unit cost 100K upwards so jacking them off the street is not possible now under the rules. You would need to have a 'trucking sales website' to invest in the larger vehicles or the insurance limits have to be upped for larger vehicles in the dedicated truck LS Customs.

I never knew there were folks trying to make GTA into a fully fledged trucking simulator. Trucking missions are one thing but would Rockstar really put something like this in to appease some truck fans? Are they gonna make a crazy in depth forklift operator DLC after this, where you can customize your forklift and cart around stuff in a game where you can rob and kill?

Dunno if this belongs in a wishlist thread either.

Liked the idea ( except for the bullsh*t online part )

I would like the feature to freely transport any vehicles via trucks and even planes. I had fun doing in GTA SA and its realy disappointing Rockstar didn't take it further, nor improve it with transporting possibilities by air or sea.

I mean, improving the "AUTO" factor is what makes the "GTA" as a whole more fun than bullsh*t wildlife photography and stupid stinking crap of mini-games.

Grow up! Rockstar!!!

I highly doubt many of these DLC ideas would be done to evolve ONLINE more than SP.

1. a "trucking simulator" was never my original idea with this thread, similarly hopeful people are just building on the idea i put on the table.

2. crack all the jokes you want about in depth addons to the game, being able to steal all the money in the world in a game like this doesnt mean a damn thing if you dont have anything interesting to do with it once you have it.

I like the idea of being able to buy my own semi truck in game, modify it, customize it, and armor it if i so choose, and i wanted to share this idea, and how I think it could be executed, with the rest of the community around this game.

A) So far it reminds me a lot of 18 WoS, a trucking simulator, as far as truck customization went, but that's about it. It's probably the other ones that made it seem so, with the trucking missions and all.

2) Most of the money in GTA to begin with seem to go in circles. People complain about having too much to spend, then they get heists, spend more, more heists, etc.

the money going in circles is why im suggesting this, it would provide another way for players to spend the money they earn while heisting, as well as something new and unique to the already existent heists, bringing an almost "mad Max-esque" feel to the game, if only during a single heist.

Something like this would be my idea:

We get a new website where we can buy a truck, and maybe 2 or 3 locations where we can buy a garage for trucks with any truck we own (maybe up to 3 or 4) being available in all of them for convenience-

As far as the missions go, first we must pass some sort of truck driver's test to get the license, and then we're on level one. Many companies, warehouses etc have cargo in front of them and by picking it up we start the mission. The cargo itself is randomized in term of what it is and where to deliver it, offering infinite missions. On level 1 we get simple cargo, after 10 successful deliveries we go to level two when new cargo appears and is more dangerous with tougher rules for completion. And then at level 3 we get some really big or dangerous stuff to drive. While at any higher lever, lower lever cargo still spawns as well, to give players the choice of what they want to drive.
