CrunchyMuffin
Hi there. I have a completely new computer that I bought for GTA V. I'm having pretty bad performance and it's annoying. The game could be considered playable but I've noticed that the FPS can be struggling at times. Oh and, if I drive fast the FPS will go drop to around 40-50. I'm a bit unsure about the FPS I get while walking around but it used to be around 100 FPS and I'm sure it's the same still. If I go at certain arenas such as the under world construction site what you drive in at the singleplayer "heist" don't know if it was a heist, but a mission I'm having almost constant stuttering. Then I drive up to the city and the stutter is gone, at some points it'll come back. It's very annoying, trust me. Is there anyone else with a computer what meets the required system specifications that have problems running this game smoothly? I've seen videos of people playing at the same specifications like me and they are running the game at Ultra with no frame rate problems, butter smooth pretty much. Then there's me who can barely run it on high. YES, I do have the updated driver for GTA 5. /350.12\ Specifications: Intel® Core i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz (8 CPUs), 4.0Ghz MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming 4GB ------- Installed memory (RAM) 8,0 GB (Might add some more in the future, as of now not needed) 64bit operating system. If you could help me out that would be very appreciated! It's bothering me that I'm having these problems. I'd love if you helped me out.

unikatil
I had the same problem, last patch seemed to fix for me, but the stuttering came back. GTX 970 here too.
Ewok626
Are you using self radio? The only time I got stuttering on my 970 was when I was using self radio.
PCMasterRace46
Win 8 is the problem. I've stayed clear of it for many reasons. Probably should have went with a 980. Even with 2 x 980 classifieds over clocked at 4k I have issues/lag at times. 55 fps on very high average. Game is very demanding even for high end rigs. nicktestbranch
sammystarock
Win 8 is the problem. I don't know about Windows 8, but it runs fine for me on Windows 8.1 and I have a GTX 770. Shouldn't be any different on Windows 8 I think. Is bashing Windows 8 still a thing? Wow.
cosmicdance
I disabled shader cache in the Nvida Control Panel and it really helped to smooth out my game a lot. Andy

CrunchyMuffin
No help so far I see. Thanks for the replies though. It's relaxing to know I'm not the only one with this problem. I've read a bit and it seems like there's a problem that happens with many GTX 970 / 980 users. Hopefully Rockstar will release a patch that fixes this. Probably not. Keep on posting guys! If you have the same GPU or any other graphic cards/specifications feel free to "hijack" this forum so more help can be available.

Alright so I downgraded the graphic driver from 350.12(the GTA V driver) to 347.88. No, I did not use a DDU to downgrade as I'm a bit lazy. And I must say it did make the game performance much better, but it's not 100% smooth. I'm running everything on max even with the advanced graphics. It's playable but I've seen smoother gameplays of my GPU and CPU. I'm pretty sure 347.88 is better as of now. If you have the same problems feel free to try the same thing I did. I'd still love some help and more replies. Like I said, feel free too post your problems too. I'd like this thread to be a good helper thread for many people with the same graphic card and stuff. Thanks Don't get me wrong but those gameplays I've seen are people playing with maxed settings on the same computer specifications with much better performance. Lowering the settings doesn't make it much more smoother to be honest with you. I assume this is a bug with GTA as so many people are having the same problems. I'm happy the game runs at least with everything maxed out. I'm sure the downgrade made a huge difference. Though more help, thanks.
Dex_LV
If you set everything on max in Advanced graphics... You can't expect smooth gameplay with single 970GTX (what is smooth for you? some are happy with 40fps, others need 60 or more). Just get real. And google how to overclock your gpu, it makes quite a big difference in GTA5. I raised my minimum fps almost by 20fps with GPU overclock. unikatil
Lol. Downgrading my Nvidia drivers to the point BEFORE the first GTA 5 Nvidia update was released. Increased my fps and stabillity, smooth. Edited May 7, 2015 by unikatil
wah007
Hmmmm I'm get a stable 60fps but sometimes it dips to 45 then goes up. Gtx 970 and FX-8350 here. I'm pretty sure that the patches ruined my game, it was working well when it released. It could be anything though, from low ram to CPU throttling. The setting I found dropped FPS significantly is the high resolution shadows, long shadows doesn't really do much to the frame rate however with high res shadows you won't be able to set shadow quality to very high without your frame rate dropping. Yep on many many forums and in general its pretty much hated since it came out. 8.1 came to late to make up the difference except for a handful of people that stuck with it and didn't return to Win 7. piddlefoot
W8 is DX 11.2 and W7 wont support that so if your games use DX 11.2 or you want them to and there coded to, , W8 is for you, personally I don't like W8, I see it as just a money grab, and W10 is coming, who knows what happened to W9 ! W7 works good for gaming, a lot of people are reporting a lot of different problems on W8 with intensive games , my personal belief is that W7 is better for gaming because its got broader support from software developers. Just because your game can run DX11.2 does not mean it cannot run DX 10 or DX 9c or DX 10.1 etc etc etc, you can usually run them with stuff turned off, and card will auto set themselves if they cant run DX11.2. Its personal choice, good luck.

DeathBySybian
Alt-tab out of the game, and go back in. Turn grass down a bit, turn tessellation down or off. Also, I had to turn windows aero ON in order to run in windowed-borderless without extreme tearing.
