There's so much music out there. Especially indie music. I like one song from a group and all of a sudden, I'm presented with their full album. Then there's suggested music, and bandcamp, and related bands, and music from that genre, and subgenres etc....

So. Much. Music.

And I'm overwhelmed by it. :/

Not to mention the myriad covers, samplings, remixes and suchlike.

I somehow yesterday ended up listening to an Eminem track synced to some Ragtime from the late 1800's. The progression from watching B-boy competitions to that was an interesting one at least.

Ha - I was simply remarking on what Judicious said, regarding the variety of stuff out there.

Interesting video. Anything from Ragtime to Rhythm and Blues is my sort of thing so it's a little exotic for my tastes, but pleasant nonetheless.

Raping someone for making you feel dizzy is decidedly uncool, however.

Deliberately puking on them might even constitute a (bizarre) 'Battery' charge.

I always elect to simply spin in the opposite direction to restore some sense of equilibrium whenever I get dizzy.

Watched Timecop yesterday. Got me all nostalgic. Films like Terminator 1 and 2, Kickboxer and all that. Films today are sh*t. Can hardly watch them.

Seen the movie 'Her' starring Joaquin Phoenix and the voice of Scarlet Johannson. Wow. What a movie. I can relate on so many levels.

I wish I had a person to love and could spend my time with. It sucks being lonely and having little to no friends to relate with. In that movie, Samantha made him feel happy and in love. Well, I want that - except, I want a real girlfriend. A girl to love me for me and not for vanity. A girl whom I can feel honest and truly comfortable with. I'd treasure her forever.

Heavy movie. 7/10, but I wouldn't watch it again. It brings me to tears personally.

Oh, f*ck off. It's your fault that you won't bother looking for films.

Also, Kickboxer? It's not exactly Oscar material.

If you're tired of overly "commercial" cinema and would like to watch films that delve deeper in the actual artistic department, have a look at the work of people like legendary director Manoel de Oliveira, who passed away recently, Glauber Rocha, Sergio Leone, Kubrick, Orson Welles, Paulo Rocha, Wim Wenders, Hitchcock, Vittorio de Sica, Marcel Camus, Jean-Pierre Melville etc.

Don't be so quick to dismiss current cinema as sh*t. Sure, there's plenty of that, but for every masterpiece you find in any decade, there's always an unfathomable amount of 'cheese'. You just have to look around; don't limit yourself to a specific circle of "popular" cinema. Christopher Nolan, Wes Anderson, Wolfgang Becker, Scorcese, Chazelle, Xavier Dolan, Jean-Luc Goddard, Jean-Pierre Jaunet... All tremendous directors, fully active. Manoel de Oliveira was active until he died, too. I guarantee that any film of his is a vision of epicness and glory. Check out Vale Abraão and you'll know what I mean.

Trust me, there really isn't a shortage of masterpieces out there, they just haven't got the same kind of projection because it's much easier to produce and promote throwaway entertainment than actual art that leaves any lasting impression on you.

Just found out I won't get any pay for 100+ work hours.

One. Hundred. Hours.

There goes my motivation, right down the crapper.

Well that's interesting. How come?

could be exempt

I work as a personal assistant with a very irregular schedule, and I only have work when the boss needs something or makes me run errands. No fixed hours, no fixed income. So some weeks may be very slow, while others get very hectic. In the contract there is a minimum amount of hours I need to work per month, anything exceeding the minimum is considered extra work for extra pay, simple stuff. Things being like this, I always take every opportunity to get more hours done, do absolutely everything I'm asked and don't question anything. Well, the thing is, that it doesn't exactly spell out in the contract that I must get paid anything after the amount of hours mentioned in it, but things have always been like this, for years. Then comes this new piece of sh*t of an accountant telling that I can only get paid for the minimum required of me, and anything beyond that I can freely refuse and am only doing of my own free will. Yeah, like I'm doing it of my own accord, like it's a hobby. The boss doesn't have a say in this, because there's a lot of bullsh*t bureaucracy involved. So because of ambiguities in the contract, the one who already worked his ass off gets shat on.

I have never been one to do only the bare minimum in anything, but currently I'm not exactly motivated to do anything more than absolutely necessary.

Uhh.. yeah they do. Nightcrawler, Gone Girl, Inherent Vice, Zero Theorem, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Birdman etc are all just as known as F&F or The Avengers.

That is unless you've been living under a rock or simply refuse to believe there's anything good these days, be it movies or music.

Dude, read my comment again, that's exactly the opposite of what I wrote. My whole point is that there are masterpieces produced today, and I listed a great deal of filmmakers, from various countries. It just seems like you misinterpreted the whole thing because of that last sentence.

All of the ones you mentioned are great films, but, save for Zero Theorem, all of them are American. That just goes to show exactly what I mean—lots of unpublicized masterpieces from various countries. No love for Wenders, Goddard, Dolan, Becker, Jaunet, Oliveira?

Good luck trying to get someone who thinks Transformers is a masterpiece to watch Pierrot le Fou.

Well, you do have a point there! :p

But yeah, it just seems reductive and lazy to write off all current cinema as crap. We're on the same page, it seems.
