RockStar Banning Single Player Modders

Recommended Posts

Glenni91

I'm pretty sure the statement you highlighted in red is the modifying of the game's .exe most games DO NOT allow this, but allows for modifying of the game's content, or additional scripts (like Asi scripts, scripthook etc) It's the modifying of the game's main executable that is a no-no in most games.

GTA 5 EULA has been like that since 2013 ( 2 years ago)

Every EULA had been like that even in Fallout and elder scrolls series . So anti modding in EULA is nothing new .

You forget "whole or in part" part.

Now Rockstar is just being anal about this.

I have a question: will you still be able to play Singleplayer with mods, when you get banned?

Because i have a important decision to make.

That's just a standard EULA, GTA IV had exactly the same terms and it didn't stop people from modding it.

Get a clue before spreading this paranoid nonsense.

I've been playing with mods for more than a week and I do as advised : I delete all my modded files before playing online. Still no ban.

My guess is people claiming to have been banned for modding SP are just full of sh!t.

I'm totally agree, R* doesn't care what you do in SP but you have to respect their rules when you play online.

It would be cool just copying my install to a new folder and put in a cracked exe with my account completely unattached so there's no possible way to go online but then I've got over 120GB of GTA V!!!!!! Maybe if they do some decent director mode mods then I'd do it! :)

But I did pay full price for my copy and don't want to compromise my account in anyway :( Ah damn you Rock$tar

I've been playing SP with mods since I beat the story, haven't been banned yet. I also haven't launched Online either, I have a feeling that as soon as I do (even after removing the files) I'll probably be banned from it. I don't really care anyway, it's just a cash-cow and all my friends are bored with it already, anyway.

Off-topic rant in reply to CrisFormed, if anyone actually wants to read it:

The key word in your opening statement was "Believe" - "beLIEve" - you're lying to yourself, unaware. You don't own the game. Beliefs are dangerous because they entail an open admittance that you do not know. Quantifiable facts are "known" and not "believed". We don't "believe" in things we know, we know them. Belief is like an optimistic doubt.

I respect what you believe and how you think it "should be"- and I agree. But the way the software world actually works - we own nothing. Only pay admittance fee under agreement you won't do anything to the software while you use it.

Bullsh*t. I payed for it, I own it. That's a quantifiable fact. Anyone who says otherwise can suck it, I don't care what the EULA says, if the President of the f*cking United States came and told me this I'd tell him to get the f*ck off my property. If I want to buy the physical copy of the game (which I actually have), and shoot it with a .50 BMG and completely vaporize it, there's nothing anyone, R* or otherwise, can do to stop me.

If R* has a problem with that, there's really nothing they can do about it. It's the same with movie and music disks, once you buy it, you own it to do with as you please, even make backup copies of it, so long as you don't sell it or put it on pirate sites.

Until R* has the gall to send people door to door to make sure you're using "their" stuff "properly", I'll consider it mine to do with as I please, regardless of what anyone says. What are they gonna do, ban me from Online?

EDIT: Speaking of movies, does anyone else find it funny how the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has its badge stamped on every copyright warning before the movie actually starts?

How can people believe the hackers that got banned instead of using your brains to actually think about this for a second. I used the trainer just to see what it could do. modded the game loaded up SP played for a few hours then shut down and wiped the trainer and never installed it again. I wasnt banned from online for modding in SP yet everyone instantly believe some salty butthurt children that got banned and now they cry that they never cheated.

We have a right stick and a mouse to look around. It's that easy. And want wider view? Use more monitors. Only have one? Deal with it and honor the license you agreed to when you installed GTA V. You have to look around in real life, too. FOV mods are hacks, the developer decided what to show and what to limit as to make GAMEPLAY better and force people to look around - no excuse for hacking a licensed piece of software.

There is a very good reason this is not allowed. Multiple good reasons. One is for gameplay. another is for optimization .And another is whoever looks at that 120 screenshot and says it looks "more natural" than 65 FOV is living in a fishbowl, or just lying to hide the fact they want to see better than other people and have an advantage.

ANYTHING above the game's built-in FOV begins to WARP AND DISTORT the image like a fish eye effect. Which is cheating. Bans deserved, read GTA V EULA, agreed not to do it, so bans deserved:

I honestly hope you're just a pathetic troll, otherwise... well, no point arguing with a creature living in a box.

Use more monitors or deal with it - no.

honor the license you agreed to - no, I ticked a box and clicked a button, I don't give a flying f*ck what they want. The second it's on my HDD, it's mine to do with as I please.

the developer decided what to show and what to limit as to make GAMEPLAY better - bullsh*t. It's a hardware limitation even for the "next-gen" consoles. Indeed, it can cause performance issues as more FoV draws more data on the screen, and a sh*tbox will suffer for it. Not my PC though, so I will decide what the limits are.

whoever looks at that 120 screenshot[...] - my viewing angle is 160º, I percieve things happening almost directly to my left and right. My monitor is big, and the FoV is sh*t. Do you have the mental capacity to imagine the discord between what I perceive naturally, and what the sh*tty FoV shows me? Can you imagine the blinding headaches that accompany a slightly longer playing session with the default values? You probably don't, else you wouldn't be spewing this nonsense.

NYTHING above the game's built-in FOV begins to WARP AND DISTORT - yes, your eyes are more or less spheres, it's how things on the edges actually look, if you'd bother to think for a second.

Which is cheating - ergo, pressing V and going into 3rd person mode, thus increasing the percieved FoV, is also cheating. Your logic, not mine.

R* and their draconian greedy bullsh*t policy can suck it. I've not been banned for the simple reason that I cover my tracks better, and block their bullsh*t from communicating. Did you know that using a firewall to cut the communication of spyware is also cheating? The more you know~

I am banned for 2 weeks, fyi, didn't even use mods online. And, be advised, just cause you have not been banned Yet, has nothing to do with not getting caught. You just being queued for the next ban wave. I'm not taking the risk again.

Update

- Added more sources about the banning spree

- Added additional YouTube News about the subject.

- Still waiting on RockStar to confirm mods, not just cosmetics.

Can you confirm whether you actually un-installed them (scripthook, asi loader etc...) before going online or if you just didn't press the button?

Because I fail to see how they can tell whether you have used mods offline if you have removed the loaders, hooks & scripts.

Well... That's it.

Rockstar just killed what might very well be the main reason to get GTA V for the PC for a massive amount of players. Including myself.

Brilliant.

I can't even begin to properly express my discontempt for this, modding has always been a tradition throughout the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Hell, how many other games still have a modding community as active as that of GTA? Maybe TES Skyrim and Minecraft, neither of those close to being more than a decade old, like San Andreas is?

Good job, Rockstar. Good f*cking job.

Just one question: Why aren't we making more noise on this? Why is this thread, one that truly announces the death of one of the most important and beloved branches of the GTA community, only 2 pages long? Why aren't we signing petitions and directly complaining to Rockstar? Don't use the bullsh*t "our cricticism isn't going to have any effect" argument, the end of the Steam paid mods just this month thanks to the huge backlash proves that a united community can make a stand against greed and general incompetence.

Maybe because there isn't the official statement yet? No official "if we catch you modding, we will ban your ass."?

And everything that is being said by everyone offended can still be rewoked by Rockstar, so they prefer to bite the tongue and better work out something that profits them, like...changing their EULA to fit a concept of paid mods, like the video guy said?

UPDATE: http://www.pcgamer.com/rockstar-says-you-wont-be-banned-for-using-gta-5-single-player-mods/

Now, this is PCGamer, I don't know how reliable they are or whatnot. Personally, this is just a quote and could be as fake as the next keylogger. I was hoping to see this news on RockStar's official page rather than here.

UPDATE 2: http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/52429/asked-answered-the-rockstar-editor-gta-online-updates

The answer is, no you will not be banned for single player. Took them a bit to answer though. Now to find out why I really got banned...

This thread, can now be locked I guess.

So it is an actual quote from them, but I'm not sure how good their word is at this point.

“I’m having soo much fun with GTAV on the PC but I just have one question about it, how come you are not allowing mods for it?” - @ClarkMatthew63

“Will I get banned from GTA Online for using a FoV Mod or Oculus Rift mod?” - @Mattophobia

We have always appreciated the creative efforts of the PC modding community and we still fondly remember the awesome zombie invasion mod and original GTA map mod for GTAIV PC among many other classics. To be clear, the modding policy in our license has not changed and is the same as for GTAIV. Recent updates to GTAV PC had an unintended effect of making unplayable certain single player modifications. This was not intentional, no one has been banned for using single player modifications, and you should not worry about being banned or being relegated to the cheater pool just for using single player PC mods. Our primary focus is on protecting GTA Online against modifications that could give players an unfair advantage, disrupt gameplay, or cause griefing. It also bears mentioning that because game mods are by definition unauthorized, they may be broken by technical updates, cause instability, or affect your game in other unforeseen ways.

Rockstar literally says that they never intended to ban people for modding SP and you don't know how good their word is? Rockstar delivered EVERYTHING they promised with GTA V and much more, if you didn't play GTA IV on PC I guess that won't mean much to you. To those who have been around since GTA 2D days, Rockstar has given us EVERY reason to trust them again and this was pretty damn difficult after suffering through GTA IV.

I have two friends that were banned for 2 weeks who modified nothing. I believe the issue is the anti-cheating system, not them intentionally attacking mods.

You can play with mods in SP, but you have to desactivate in Online (R* recommand you to desactivate all your mods)

They trust in modders community, but the way people use trainers make them think that their economy would not be sufficient.

So in respect to R* and their developpers, don't use mods in Online. Specially when it gives you more power than other.

Forgive my complete ignorance in the subject, got a PC just for GTA V, but V MP or FiveM or any such program....

Once those come out GTA Online is essentially obsolete isn't it? R* can't stop you from using those mods....can they?

They are trying to protect Online as it's a cash cow. I understand not wanting certain hacks but not allowing players to have model cars, planes ect is dumb. In flight simulator multiplayer if a person has an add on plane the player sees his AddOn but the other players unless they have the same addon only see a default plane. GTA online should be like this.

The thing is that even modded vehicles change the way a car behaves, althought texture mods or minor edits to vehicle appearance should be allowed.
