Last time I played it I remember most of the weapons being competitive against each other. As for Black Ops 2 being the most balanced? LMAO. The only balanced thing about that game was the SMG class, that being they all dominated every other weapon other than the FAL.

Assault Rifles: M16 would beat every assault rifle at any range, one burst from that thing with stopping power would kill any enemy instantly at any range, you literally had no reason to use any other assault rifle. SMGs: MP5 was the best in most situations except maybe the P90 was slightly better at CQB thanks to it's magazine size, but that's about it. LMGs: Using these instead of an M16 would be a pretty dumb move, but the RPD was somewhat decent at long ranges, the M60 was just good for spraying at close quarters, but still wouldn't be as good as an MP5. Shotguns: lel cod4 shotguns Sniper Rifles: Sure, they had some sort of reputation in CoD4 but using them instead of an M16 in a competitive environment would be a pretty silly move. Pistols: Is there even any question here? The Desert Eagle was easily the best pistol at all ranges, using the USP was always an option due to it having a suppressor, but even then it wasn't exactly worth it due to it's low damage. I'm pretty sure we played different games here... Assault rifles: Just about everything was competitive here with the exception of the single fire guns but even those had their uses. SMGs: All of them were about as good as each other, if anything the 74u was better than the MP5. The Skorpion may have been quite weak though. LMGs: About right here tbh, nothing special about these. Shotguns: "lel cod4 shotguns"? They were effective when used properly, on a map like bloc or shipment they were pretty effective from my experience. Snipers: Again, much like the shotguns there's a time and a place. Very effective when used properly (I.E. Not running around shipment with them) Pistols: sure not the greatest things but they're pistols, sorry they didn't live up to the completely overkill Dual G18s or Dual 93s from MW2. Besides, we all know it was all about the M1911 and the M9. I've figured out why you seem to be unable to use these weapons... It's because you never used them effectively, you can't expect to do well if you pick an M9 for a game on wet work because you're using the weapon like an idiot. Non of the games after CoD4 came close to balancing the weapons.

Non of the games after CoD4 came close to balancing the weapons. The only other thing you could use in the assault rifle category was the AK or M4, but they were both underpowered compared to the M16, they were never used in competitive play. The 74u was not better than the MP5, it had more recoil and with the 74u using an attachment would decrease damage (or increase recoil, can't recall), they're both powerful but the MP5 was still better, which is why it was used constantly in competitive. Shotguns.. no, seriously, no. The hit detection on CoD4 shotguns was broken beyond belief, the range was tiny and you weren't always going to get a one shot kill even at extremely close range, using a shotgun over an MP5 in CQB would be a dumb move. Snipers really aren't useful for a team at all unless you're extremely good with it and against terrible players. But if you're extremely good with a sniper and against terrible players, you'd do much better with an M16. EDIT: Look up any CoD4 game battles match and you'll generally find M16's and MP5's. Krysalis
The last good CoD was Black Ops. BO2 was nice but nothing compares to old CoD's, i remember when i used to play it with my friends alot very long time ago, like CoD 2, WaW and sh*t, now nobody is even touching these new ones. Mista J
Are you sure about the shotguns? I remember them being really effective. The M1410 was a bit hit an miss but I'm sure that's because it was weaker than the W1200. The W1200 with double tap was f*cking epic on Vacant. X S
I think everyone has a different opinion as to when the decline began, but financially, it occurred during the release of BO2. Black Ops and MW3 are actually the most financially successful installments of the franchise. To me, that's more telling than the average hardcore gamer who loves to pick on Call of Duty games. Fans of the series loved COD because you knew what to expect. It was, for a long time, one of the few FPS's for console that provided 60fps twitch reaction gameplay and instant gratification. The game mostly held up these aspects of gameplay throughout it's various life cycles until Ghosts. Ghosts was plagued by overly large and complex map design, poor engine mechanics, and a severe lack of enemy engagement. It was just poorly designed in comparison to its predecessors. AW also delinated from the basic formula. Using Coca-Cola as an example, there's a certain level of expectation you value in Coke product. Ghosts and AW were akin to the time when Coke changed its formula. As a long time fan, I too, have decided to not pre-order this game. This will be the first time in a long time, and I've been playing these warfare shooters since the original Medal of Honor of PS1. RIP COD Edited May 6, 2015 by X S
FullMetal
I'm buying Black Ops 3 no matter how hated it seems to be. I mean, gee people, we have only seen a teaser and a reveal trailer. Anyway, I think BO3 is gonna be good. I'm a little doubtful about the game being set in the 2070's, yet I look forward to it. You can never go wrong with Treyach. They make the best. Infinity Ward on the other hand... uuh well, I wanted to post an edgy reaction image, but forum rules. The old Infinity Ward sh*ts on Treyarch. Until Activision screwed IW over, Treyarch was the 2nd rate CoD Dev. Funny how people all forget the brilliant United Offensive expansion pack that is actually pretty much the best game from the entire franchise. And it's only a f*cking expansion pack mind you! On a even funnier note: Grey Matter... the guys behind United Offensive (and also for a big part the guys behind Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, the FREE standalone Multiplayer Awesomeness of Wolfestein MP) actually became Treyarch. But yeah, for some reason alot of talent was lost. Kinda like Infinity Ward after Vcod/CoD2. Or like the original Medal of Honor Allied Assault team... SouthLand
I would love to see this idea come to life: A) Instead of being part of a professional army like the US Army, British SAS, Russian Spetsnaz.... You decide to join a Rebel group to fight against a dictatorial regime in your country. I am going to use North Korea as an example (i am just making this up) The Game - Resistance Campaign- You start the game and you are a North Korean defector that escapes to China (The first mission is you escaping unarmed from North Korea to China through the Tumen River without letting the guards spot you). Once in China, you get involved in a Resistance group made up of North Korean defectors and South Korean volunteers that are armed and equipped by Japan, USA and South Korea. Once in the resistance group, you learn how to fire a gun, and few military things. (I know this image is from LA Riots but just to get an idea of the story) Shortly, a video will play showing you that months have gone by and they are now a lot more trained defectors and it's time for the big day" The Resistance group, once plans to infiltrate into enemy lines and gain control of a few armored vehicles and weapons. Once that is done, The Resistance tries to gain control of towns. The more towns the Resistance captures, the more population join the Resistance and this includes North Korean army defectors that switch sides since they are fed up with the regime. The North Korean regime, Calls for a Emergency meeting in Pyongyang where, they agree to: 1. Eliminate all Resistance fighters by any means necessary. 2. Forbid any type of sympathy or ppublic respect for the Resistance. The act of doing so will be death in Hard work labor camp. 3. Accuse South Korean on Planing a Coup d'Etat on North Korea. 4. North Korea will break cease fire and attack South Korea This makes South Korea join the war oficially (with the help of the USA) At this point, you will also do missions with a new character: You will still play as the NK Defector and keep making progress with the Resistance by capturing towns in rural North Korea, You will now also play as a South Korean Soldier that will fight the NK Army in the Southern North Korea At the end, The resistance and the South Korean army will meet at pyongyang where the Regime will fall and North Korea would loose the war. The Game - North Korean Campaign- You start by being a NK soldier fighting the resistance. At first, you will be convinced that you are actually doing "the right whing" however, as the game goes on, you will understand how cruel and selfish the North Korean elite and regime are, specially with the innocent civilians... After a lot of things that you actually think they are wrong, you will end up defecting and switching to the resistance, and confronting your old commanders and leaders. Don't you think a game like this would be awesome? Edited May 7, 2015 by SouthLand Pump Action Pimp, Melech and NotAHipster

Ss4gogeta0
There are still some wars COD could cover a make an interesting game.- Vietnam War.- Korean War (1950)- Soviet-Afghan War- War in Chechnya- War in the Balkans- Kosovo- Somalia (Operation Restore Hope)- Spanish Civil War (1936)And so on...But COD has lost it's War flavor. Their games look just like playing Paintball with friends. It's all about colorful weapons, jumping around, Online and little kids running around and screaming.Thank God we still have Arma 2 and Arma 3 Somalia was loosely covered in MW3 That's nostalgia talking, CoD4 was terribly unbalanced. Black Ops 2 is one of the more balanced CoDs but not the most balanced.... still one of my favorites tho... and the SMG does not dominate Pistol... are you daft? Pistol is god in BO2.... Been using pistol since I first got game... actually Pistol is good in all CODs... Used it in all since MW1... mostly USP but in MW3 I went P99... and in BO1 I stayed with ASP Edited May 7, 2015 by Ss4gogeta0
Daz
I could go on and on about how terrible CoD is but the facts are that as long as people line up to buy those games, they will never change. Unless there is a significant drop in sales, they won't change anything. It is all just a reskin or gimmick filled cycle that will go on forever. The reason it sucks is there has not been any significant changes or improvements to the engine, gameplay mechanics or storyline style. Will they ever stop selling Coke as long as people buy it? No. If anything they will try and sell you the same but with less in it to see if they can. Just like with games these days. Don't expect anything different. If it ends up becoming different it may as well at that point not be a call of duty game anymore, so it will always be the same and it will always suck. Gaming has evolved, peoples interests have evolved. The games were only good for 2005-2008. For that era it worked. But now it is just an industry joke. Alarming
Being a gamer since before the Atari 2600 days. In a day where you controller had a million buttons and a card to put on the controller for the button controls I can tell that maybe it's just you. What I mean by that is what was fun when your younger can change when your older. I used to love rpg games but now don't have the time. Used to love sports games but can't be bothered to play them anymore. Fifa was and still is rated highly yet I think it looks average and it bores me. It's not till you get older that you realize the games changed and most often for the better but so have you and your no longer the target audience. The very few games in the series that were good are still played today. The only thing i'm upset about is that there's no FPS that is even remotely exciting or worth looking forward to. It's either CoD or BF and both can f*ck right off the edge of my dick at this point. The FPS genre really needs a community assisted game. If there is one we need more. Abel.
CoD4 (MP) was a hell lot of fun I must say. That's the only MP game (apart from the WW2 CoD's) that was really well balanced. But apart from that, it all went to sh*t. That's nostalgia talking, CoD4 was terribly unbalanced. The only decent guns were the M16, MP5 and maybe the RPD/P90, but other than that everything else was garbage in comparison. Grenades? Good god, they were pure aids. Grenades that were basically mini-nukes and when combined with 3x frag, any bad player could spawn in and lob them across the map everytime they spawned, not exactly balanced. The maps? They're great for good players because once you get either A or C and then B, you could spawn trap the enemy so bad at whatever their only flag was, Zeus grenades also contributed majorly to spawn trapping. The perks? Also not really balanced and extremely noob friendly at time. What was worth using in the first perk slot other than bandolier or 3x frag? The second perk slot you basically were forced to use either Juggernaut or Stopping Power, you were always at a disadvantage using anything else. Third perk slot was probably the most balanced, but it still had perks that would basically give bad players kills (Martyrdom/Last Stand), a good player would have to choose between Dead Silence, Steady Aim and Deep Impact, but even in a competitive environment you'd be pretty dumb not to get Dead Silence. On PC you can get around the unbalanced guns on HC/Pro Mod servers, and most servers kick you automatically if you're using Martyrdom or Last Stand (heck some servers even ban the P90). Juggernaut is usually banned too but it's next to useless on HC mode (which most of the servers these days use) anyway. I only really play Search and Destroy and FFA, but I will concede that the Domination positions were badly thought out. Tuareg: CoD4 on PC has basically been community-assisted for the last few years and it's worked very well. My only concern is that the lack of official cheat protection is going to make it too hard for server admins. CoD4 is one of the things I look forward to whenever I get back home for a few months so I'd hate to see it die. CS GO is pretty good but it just doesn't have the same community feel to it. It's a real shame that most modern MP shooters demand third party accounts like Origin or Steam and force admins to rent from specific server vendors. We'll probably never have a game like CoD4 again. Edited May 10, 2015 by Failure
