Special Crates - what do we celebrate?

I noticed special crates around since last week. I started playing GTAO in December 14, at this time special crate drops were pretty normal because of Xmas and the Festive Suprise Update. Why do they reappear now? And what makes them special? I had a decend fight and managed to get the special crate one second before the other player ran me over....to get a minigun, 5000 rp and 5000 cash. Thought i might catch a fancy new shirt or something. But no.

What is it about? Is a big new update going to be released like tomorrow and none of the great gta youtubers know about it? Or is it just a nerdy rockstar employee sitting on an island pushing the button for special crate dropes every four months? Maybe it was supposed to start with the pc release and that employee was busy with blowing up thousands of Duke o Deaths?

They just give you extra RP/Money.It is when they announce special event crate there is something worth while to grab.Otherwise they drop occasionally at random from my experience.

I think your right. Might have started this weekend and not last week, so it would make sense. Lets see if they are gone tomorrow.
