Niko Bellic appreciation thread

Recommended Posts

jpm1

Niko Bellic is one of the most interesting characters that I've seen in a game, and I dare say that he's stronger and faster than Trevor Philips. Michael Hollick did great on Niko's voice acting even though he isn't really fluent on Serbian.

that thing makes me laugh each time i see it. yes, Niko is Serbian, but AFAIK it's said nowhere that both of his parents where Serbian. it could even have been Serbian by a more far away ancestor. thus, any interpretation concerning his accent can be done

One of the many reasons as to why I absolutely adore Niko Bellic is because I LOVE Slavic culture and people, despite being a man of Norwegian, German, British, Northern Irish, and Scottish descent from the United States. To me, Germanic, Nordic, Anglo-Saxon, and Aryan cultures are relatively boring, but at the same time, I believe it's just because that's what my ethnicity is and what I'm basically used to, if that makes any sense. Even though I find my own ethnicity relatively boring, I still show appreciation for it. I additionally love Mediterranean and Latin cultures. I'm also happy to be so as well, considering it shows that I have an open mind. :)

Interesting points there. I wonder if we are drawn to other cultures because, "the grass is greener on the other side". Much like a Serbian may admire, for example, your Norwegian (and many other types of) heritage.

Also, for me Niko has a nose you can trust.

This thread fills me with nostalgia. A few of the old hombres are no longer with us for whatever reason.

Anyway I hope Niko enjoyed his 10th anniversary. Time has flew by for this landmark character.

Niko would be feeling pretty good (if he was real obviously lol) that he's the only GTA protagonist that gets compared to Arthur from Red Dead Redemption 2. The ice cold slavic killer is still on peoples' minds after a decade. Great job sir.👍

He's one of the few pre-defined game protagonists I've ever really enjoyed experiencing a story with, and felt like I wanted to continue learning about once the story had concluded. Niko, despite his real flaws and his perceived ones, captured me unlike many other characters in any game, and though I'm far from anything like him, connected on a level I've only really had with characters of my own creation. It disappointed me that EFLC left Niko behind, though it's at no fault of Johnny or Luis.

I continue to wish Niko had been done more justice in all, but as it is, I'm happy we saw him, got to know him, and have come to appreciate him, all these years later.

This is still my favorite protagonist along Tommy and Claude.

SweetBellic is a vulnerable guy who needs to be held by big strong arms.

Easily the most developed GTA protagonist up to date.

What I like the most about him is that while he chose the life of crime, his main goal was neither greed or freedom, but seeking revenge on a man who was the reason of years of misery.

That was something refreshing for the franchise.

I also like that while he's a hitman, for most of his employers he's not just a random street hired gun, since they know that he got talents and experience.

Before I played GTA IV or knew anything about Niko I had listened to this

And so when I started playing the game I already knew I was going to like him, how can anyone not love his sarcastic attitude?

I'd like to state a point I really liked about Niko's personality that I can't recall seeing talked about before.

Even while he's a hired gun, he's not the classic "Yes, boss" type of hitman. He usually interacts, sometimes criticizes or even refuses as well. You can notice that when it comes to his relationship with, for instance, Playboy X, Francis McReary, Ray Boccino and Jimmy Pegorino.

I prefer my protagonist to be an organization leader, but I also have no problem with Niko's status.

I like how he's not afraid to speak his mind which makes him feel different to the typical "yes sir" type characters. He told Ray to stick his work up his arse (Ok not literally, but you get the idea) when he got sick of the diamond f*ck up and he was hesitant to kill Dwayne.

I really don't understand it when people say he doesn't display "emotions" though. Easily the most layered and complex protagonist in the series only levelled by Arthur Morgan in RDR2.
