So I just completed "That Special Someone" on my current play through and it got me thinking what do you guys think was the correct decision?

 

Now in most cases I kill him because the execution is guilty awesome, but this time I chose to spare him and it felt like something Niko would do.

 

Just his reaction to Roman afterwards and when he gets in contact with Bernie makes me think that. Rather then letting him take the easy way out he suffers more from living with the guilt.

I let Darko live, since he would suffer more if he lives, because he has nothing, and for Niko, he seems to have made the right choice not taking revenge by just killing him. Niko's moral decision seems to be a lot better if he spared Darko.

 

When you kill Darko. If you use the Desert Eagle, Niko fires 12 shots without reloading, the D Eagle only has 9 shots in it's magazine, probably a developer oversight.

I think both killing and sparing Darko are equally valid, but I feel that killing him is perhaps more fitting, even though I usually spare him. Niko was way down the path of the dark side. He's been hunting that guy for 10 years, killed and hurt countless people along the way and became completely consumed by revenge. I think just seeing Darko again, as broken man, is enough to wake Niko up, at least deep down, but he'd still kill him nonetheless. It's been too long and he sacrificed too much to not finish the job. I suppose he'd still try to assure himself, even as he's facing the traitor, that revenge will bring him closure and peace. I don't think he would be able to just let go after being so obsessed for so long. Then, after the deed is done, without anything clouding his judgement for the first time in 10 years and faced with cruel realization, he finally opens his eyes and admits to himself that the hunt was pointless.

Since ever coming to Liberty City, Niko is obsessed with revenge and finally it happened during this mission. Niko actually feels bad when killing Darko, saying it wasn't worth it, but when he spare him, Niko will feel quite good and say that nothing would change if he killed him and like Haytham said, the hunt for Darko was just pointless. If Niko killed Darko, he will feel bad and feels empty when killing Darko. I like how IV's missions gave you choices that will affect Niko's values and morals. Every choice in the game has good and bad when it already comes to choices. It makes me question myself, like Niko is questioning himself during the game. GTA IV is very immersive and it is easily one of the best games ever made.

I usually spare him (only time I killed him was on my first playthrough). I think it makes Niko more human. When looking at this mess Darko became, Niko realises that the monster he´s been chasing for 10 years isn´t this broken human being. It´s the terrible memories and the hate he build up in his mind, so killing Darko wouldn´t change anything.

 

I also like the email the ULP guy sends you after sparing Darko. When I read it I imagine there´s still hope for Niko.

I found it right to let him live. I felt that gave Niko more Revenge than killing him. Darko was a very broken, and drug addled man.

I reckon the choice Niko would of made is to spare darko. it's seems like a bigger punishment to let darko live with what he's done. And niko of all people knows that living can be harder than death sometimes.

The first time I ever played IV, I killed Darko. A short time later I felt hollow.

He would spare Darko, because that's a greater punishment. If Niko wasn't heartless, he would have killed the guy, to spare him further misery. Anyway Dario probably kills himself if you spare him. He knew that his life was sh*t and begs N to kill him.

I think its better to let Darko live, like Roman says "He knows what he's done" so I leave him to suffer and learn to live with the consequences for his actions. I only killed Darko once in a play through and I felt bloody awful afterwards.

I let him live, in my opinion it's the most fitting decision for a guy like Niko, plus in a way also influences the Deal ending
