Savage's Armor?

This thread is too funny.

It's got weak armor for balance reasons. They obviously did it on purpose because the heist missions where you steal and use it, it's very strong and absorbs a lot of punishment. They probably figured that having the most destructive guns in the game aside from the Lazer (which deals seemingly the same damage from longer range) needed to be counter-balanced by making it fragile and fairly slow. And they were right. Anyone who is good with this thing can rack up a lot of kills in a row with it. All you have to do is know how to fly so that you don't hit anything; fly low so you can always shoot your targets as soon as they're in range; and use buildings smartly for cover (easy if you're flying low).

If you're flying it at medium height and expecting not to die by homing launcher, good luck with that. But that's a problem with the homing launcher, not the Savage (it's OP vs. every helicopter in the game). And the idea of making it a "flying Insurgent" as someone suggested... what a nightmare that would be. I promise you this: make my Savage into a flying Insurgent and I'll absolutely wreck a lobby, unstoppably, for an hour a pop. I'm already good at keeping buildings between me and guys with homing launchers, or killing them before they get a chance to fire; if I could withstand a couple of random shots too, I'd be king of free roam.

I think it should take 3 rockets to be destroyed also it's ascending speed/power should be better considering it f*cking heavy. Trying to strafe in this thing is hilariously bad lol I can do it but it requires waaay to much effort imo

A flying Insurgent would indeed be overpowered but would a flying Kuruma?

Maybe not quite that effective but at least something closer to the kind of protection you get from 50-100% armour.

This isn't a problem with the Savage so much as it is with the Homing Launcher; it's STILL useless against jets while OP against ALL choppers, though something that's as big and heavy as the Savage should be able to withstand at least one rocket (that disables the engine first, like the Lazer) so the pilot gets a chance to bail. Seriously, the amount of time your character takes to jump out… once you hear the lock, you're f***ed. No way around it. While yes, it does have an explosive cannon and no cool-down for the missiles, it's still unfair to make it completely impossible for the user to escape at all from a homing launcher. There's nothing balanced about that. (Brings up another point, you don't even have to aim; why is THAT a thing? You should actually have to put the reticle over your target and follow it for the lock, not just have it anywhere on the screen FFS.)

the armor is savage's offset while compensation is this helicopter incorporate full offense :

~ a deadly minigun , having explosive bullets and faster fire rate than lazer/hydra . whetever caught in crosshair will be reduced to smithereens but the turbulence make it harder to aim and the large size make it risky to fly close to ground as someone pulls homing launcher on time ( even if you managed to bail out , this helicopter has slowest bailout time )

~ four container of rocket launcher and contain hydra 70 rockets , like buzzard . however unlike buzzard , because already mentioned , this helicopter is a full offense , the rockets do not overheat . this is especially useful to spam some ground foes in distance to prevent the homing launcher ( in free-aim mode ) and perfect to spam an agile pilots in air where you could able turn 360 degrees as well spam it around

~ there will be 4 seats . the cockpit is unique yet slowest bailout ( unlike jet's cockpit where the pilot is ejected ) and Co-pilot has no control from the rocket ( which means preventing an idiot who want to steal missile control ) . despite there is a seat inside , the 2 occupant from behind instead sit by the sliding door , this is because the seat is placed too far from behind and the occupant takes time to open back the sliding door if it's does ( unlike swift ) . it's one of two helicopter that has retractable landing gear

flaw :

~ because of the cockpit's design like rhino tank's hatch , player will be open to get hit by missiles while in air

~ few hit by small arms should cause the plane smoking

~ the rotor blades are too long and it's large size can't be landed if the area is filled with tall static object ( wooden poles , trees , tall fences , etc )

~ the tail boom has no strike guard that protect the rotor blades from hitting the ground

~ because of auto-aim and turbulence , player will be forced to treat the savage like fighter jet if the pilot want to use the explosive minigun

~ as expected , combined the armor and the size , makes easy target for marksmanship

It's moderately effective against the Hydra, which is good (I wish it was as effective against the Lazer, but only bad Lazer pilots ever get hit by it). But you're right, it's OP against helicopters and was from the start. I'm not sure what the answer is there. They could reduce its damage and simultaneously reduce the health of the jets, but you'd never hear the end of it from jet-lovers then ("oh no, my poor jet started smoking from two sniper rounds!"). They could keep damage the same and increase the health of helicopters, but that creates a different balance issue vs. all non-homing RPG ground weapons. I don't know.

I wish Rockstar had implemented the homing launcher differently from the start. I would have preferred a Stinger missile, single shot, that you have to call Merryweather and get dropped nearby. It could have been both expensive and deadly effective vs. all flying aircraft. That way people would be more likely to call it in vs. jets, aggressors and people who really need to be taken down; less likely to blast everything flying just because they can.

And that's all great but you're thinking of a Valkyrie not a Savage...

640px-Savage_GTAVe_Frontquarter.png

Doesn't have a gunner and can't fire straight down; gets f*cked up by everything pointed at it.

Valkyrie-GTAO-Front.png

DOES have gunners; still gets f*cked up by everything pointed at it but can make them go away much easier.

Two very different beasties.

With you Savage you can shoot straight down. You're clearly not using it correctly.

My only problem with the savage, besides the poor armor, is its very poor AoA and turn/climb rate.

Its like I'm flying a cruise ship with wings all the time.

Technically yes, but it's not exactly an easy maneuver to pull off. The Valkyrie can do it much easier and was clearly what he was referring to.

The Savage's armor (or lack of) used to piss me off, but I'm a bit more fine with it now. The cannon is absolutely devastating. You can kill a tank in less then a second with it. It wouldn't be fair if it could withstand three rockets. Maybe two; first rocket will make it smoke and second brings it down, so you actually have a chance to get out.

But the lack of armor against arms fire makes no sense whatsoever. I'd like to see a MicroUzi bring down a Hind.

TLDR: Almost no more armor against rockets, but against arms fire its needed.

Haha, the Savage's cannon is more powerful then the Lazer's. It shoots faster; literately I have killed a tank in less then a second with it. An insurgent was like 2 seconds.

Maybe make it be able to take two rockets like the Hydra. First rocket will disable you but still give you a chance to eject.

The savage doesn't need more armor, it needs flares!

Are we talking about missions or free roam? If you're getting shot down by NPCs in missions, then you're flying WAY too close to the ground. If we're talking about free roam, then I say well played to the person who shoots down your Savage with a gun. I'd much rather see Savage's getting shot down by a well timed RPG shot, a sniper rifle, or even a minigun to the tail rotor rather than have some level 10 with a homing launcher take it down in one damn shot!

Against AI NPC's, hitting me with a pistol from 900 meters out is child's play.

Plus, just one mag from the Assault Rifle (AK-74) puts you a grey smoke, which disables you completely in minutes.

What about an unarmed helicopter that has super armor? Would you like that?

The Valkyrie is even worse btw, two hits from people throwing chewing gum away and it's smoking. You could bring one down with a cap gun.
