Following on from my earlier post, I guess we will need to wait and see what the next game will be like, before we can get the full picture.

I imagine the following conversation, or similar to it took place somewhere in R*:

Sam: -Let's think about this for a while: V is about heists. What are heists?

Dan: -They are carefully planned robberies that require multiple people to work in sync. That means that they can't all improvise all the time, otherwise they'll end up confusing eachother and getting caught. Ergo all the improvisation has to happen before the job. That's why there isn't much leeway with what you can do during the heists.

Sam: -But there should be plenty of choices that you could make, including plans that get you caught. That would teach you to plan more carefully next time.

Dan: -That's kind of taught when Trevor plans the job, so does that need to be an annoying thing in all of the missions?

Sam: -No, all unnessessary annoyances need to be eliminated.

Dan: -So, when Lester is planning, the options are all viable options. Would that be okay?

Sam: -I think so. Let's do it.

GTA V as a game? Yes. The focus on Online? No, but Rockstar isn't forcing me to use it (yet). However, before the previous generation of consoles/games, I never had to update my console or games to fully experience them. GTA V is a complete game just like III through San Andreas, and I paid for that same GTA experience. It's difficult to complain about it when it's the same basic game each time and I like the formula. This time, they took things to an interesting level with three protagonists, but next time I'd like one. In fact, it would be cool if these three protagonists got their own games, but that won't happen.

For now it's worse, because V is the worst GTA after Advance, they could have done so much more, but nooooo, they have to add Online and dumb SP down, like they did with God of War. IV and EFLC were much better.

But I hope Online will be dropped for GTA VI, and when that is released, I can say for sure if the series is truly getting worse.

Rockstar went to a very different direction with IV, seeing that most people didn't like it they chose a more wacky + realistic approach for V, most people liked it but there's still people who didn't. in my opinion GTA 6 will be the one that'll set in stone what rockstar may do with the franchise, these two were different approachs that somehow worked, but they still don't know what to do, it's either more realistic or more wacky, it's their call.

Nope. R* has been making serious games all the generation, and with V they did a joke.

The best thing R can do is stop listening to the fans. Their biggest mistake was taking all the IV whiners seriously.

When did the IV whiners ever say that they wanted even fewer things to do off-mission, that they wanted more linear missions, a shorter game and that most of the focus on the next game should focus on being an MMORPG with microtransactions or that all mods should be banned? I don`t know any traditional GTA player who`s crazy about these changes. The only people thrilled with GTA V are the new players who just turned 17 (or in many cases 13) and it`s their first game, which they only play Online because they just started getting bored of the World or Warcraft or League of Legends or Call of Duty or Monster Hunter etc. and are looking for the next 24/7 obsession.

dissatisfied.

i admire r* efforts to make GTA more realistic and less arcadey but i dont admire what they are doing to gameplay. r* spends the majority of their development making a super realistic, atmospheric world then they throw in some half a**ed gameplay and call it a day. reviewers and casual fans call GTA a masterpiece because their first impression is a GTA game with uber amazing visuals. so they give it a 10/10 . it isnt until later when i novelty wears off that the horrible gameplay rears its ugly head. but its too late now R* got it is $$ and praise. now they have big heads and a false sense what gamers really want.

im upset with r* pretentious attitude about their game environments and their social commentary. the icing is on the cake is how they want us to play their game how they want. which is basically an interactive movie to show off.

and then the focus on multiplayer is the final nail in the coffin. as if restricted singleplayer was bad enough.

I don't think this has anything to do with the direction they are taking it. Yes V is a little less serious than IV (thankfully) but not nearly as fun-loving as the 3D era.

gta v is the worst gta that I ever played, and I have been playing the saga since gta 2. All new gta was a step forward, but this one it's like 3 steps back. The only real good thing are the graphics.

Well I guess we just look at things differently. Excluding any Online issues I have, I think V was a better step for the series than IV.

Neo Arcadia

I used to be unsure/confused leaning towards satisfied, but then Online and its microtransactions happened.

This whole thing isn't surprising. Death is inevitable, and the quality of GTA is no exception. At least GTA had a long and good life, unlike some game series which died young...

No ... but I voted confused because I like to think Rockstar maybe needed to get something out of their system with GTA V... test out all their worst ideas.

Worst Case is GTA has gone through a paradigm shift and now V style is now the norm, but I just dont know... it seems like its too much money on the table to release ordinary games.

If the current path is linear ass missions, cheap short story, ONLINE bias, forgettable characters, unenterable buildings, and lazy programming and cheap physics then no. I'm not satisfied the with the current path. GTA had its course though. Its been a great franchise. But sooner or later, R* is gonna have to cater to the majority. Even if that means cutting off their fans

Nah, I'll stick with the singleplayer, Rockstar better not do the same thing with the upcoming DLC and the next GTA.

Yes and no. I love both V and Online more than the other GTAs I just hate how changes in Online affect SP. Nerf tanks or weapons? Tank is a piece of crap now, can't have fun with it anymore.

And how they focus too much on Online. I want more SP content.

So far no, GTA IV/EFLC was the last good GTA ever released.

No doubt I love how realistic GTA is looking but V in most parts is a big disappointment, the foundation of the game is terrible.

My point is, the only thing V has good is graphics.

I'd say that I am.

V obviously has its faults like any other game, but the environment has improved a lot, the general controls have improved with each game, they've done will with the graphics direction (yes, I care about graphics, how terrible of me), and general features they add with each game are good additions.

However, story-wise V falls on its face, and they seem to have regressed in terms of AI, annoyingly. Generally I like how the series is progressing, but they need a proper overhaul of AI and peds in general if it's going to remove itself from the generic shooty-shooty mindset.

I think it's headed in an ok direction. I wish it was less realistic, but hey, that's why saints row exists in its current state. I hope that they improve the controls though. They feel horribly unresponsive to me.

If GTA is heading anywhere, it's definitely toward more online with Rockstar's vision to create a MMORPG experience. No problem with that as long as single player gets full attention again like previous GTA titles. I can't see thing happening since Rockstar is allocating a lot of its bandwidth for online, so eventually single player will not get the usual attention.

There's another thing that inhibits a truly fun online experience, which is microtransactions. You want that portable anti-aircraft missile? pay 70K. I understand leveling up to open more items like it was in RDR. GTA Online does this, too, but with purposely high-priced items to get you buy in-game money with real money! you can't have instant fun anymore, but instead you've to either play day-long heists to gain money, or go and spend real money on some temporary online activties.

With this online model, I don't like the current state of the series.

The problem with ONLINE is,

- Not a standalone title even though Rockstar treats V and Online as separate entities but in fact it is not. The ONLINE updates should not in any way modify the SP portion if it was meant to be separate.

- Furthermore, regarding the potential in content and features, I find that their strategy has been that leads to favor online more than SP but, in fact, the game should be supporting and treating both game modes equally, without dividing the content which potentially reduces the players experience for the full price he paid that forces him to play the multiplayer component, and obviously, the online benefits from being a crowd puller the necessary need for sustaining the growth of their digital revenue through microtransactions. Under such a scenario, how can anyone hope that the single player be saved and expect them to put more efforts to encourage the players with a great incentive to continue playing single player long after the story and doesn't restrict the player from exploring further potential without ending up in a situation making the player to switch ONLINE for the best and complete experience?

ONLINE is bullsh*t and utter garbage no matter what way you look at it. It should be developed as a separate release different from the Single player releases and in an interval of, at least, one year gap between both titles, otherwise, I don't see a bright future nor any benefits to the SP with ONLINE tacked on.

people are entitled to their own opinions but...

Yes, it turns out people can like things you don't like, and have opinions you don't have. Who would have thought.

Anyway, adding on to what I said earlier, I'm generally agreeing with what other people are saying about GTA:Online. Not only is the focus on it troubling, but doing it despite how badly they've executed the whole multiplayer experience does make me concerned for the next GTA game; it's a new industry tradition that I hope they don't fall further into.
