Hello guys,

I have GTA V (steam version) and playing it.

I am curious if I bring a dvd version of the game. Will I be able to install the game again ONLY using my Rockstar social club username and password? (I don't want to use a new serial code)

i kind of regret not buying the physical dvd version as steam achievements are useless for me. Plus 2 DRM layers are even more stupid than only 1.

Gtav_install.exe file don't let me download the game from Rockstar as it needs a Rockstar activation code before it actually download.

Thanks

In summary: for a fresh new install, can I ditch steam all together and install gta v ?

I don't get what you are asking. If you bought the retail version it will have the CD key. You will need that to install it. The social club account is not for installing. It's for updates, online access, achievements, etc. Once you install for the first time you link your install to your social club. So from then on any computer you play GTA5 on you will need to log in on. But in order to install it you will need the key from however you are installing it. For steam you need the steam code, for retail you need the retail code. After installing it you use the social club account you originally created. If you wanted to, you could let a friend also install it and use the retail version's key for their social club since you already linked yours with the steam version. But you will still need that key to install it from the CDs. Make sense?

Yes, you can

Close Steam

Install the game from the disk.

Go to Steam\SteamApps\Common.

There, create a folder called "Grand Theft Auto V"

Place the files of the disk based install inside the newly created folder.

Start Steam and "Install the game"

Steam should say "Discovering existing files"

Let Steam download the files that are different from the Retail/RSGSC version.

Pretty sure he doesn't want to use steam any more

Thanks kaos057 and MerolaC.

It looks like I'm stuck with Steam. Tried yesterday to install from my firend disc, anfter install it somehow deteced my username(I can never know how, it is not even my gaming pc, it was the living room desktop) in social club, but doesn't let me proceed without a Rockstar code.

Tried to log in again, I have the game in my social club account but the wizard refuses to check their and insist on a new serial code. I quit it fearing i would mess something or ban from the game.

hopeless case it seems.

You can read the code you have on Steam.

Right click the game in your Steam Library

Click "View CD-Key"

Sorry, I don't know that.

Don't think it would be harmful to try it.

The code it wants is the one that came with your friend's retail version. It will not cause your friend to be unable to play because he already linked it to his social club. But you still need that key to install. Once it's installed you use your own social club to log in.

Thanks again. I will try my steam code to finish the retail install. Hopefully it'll work but I doubt it. I didn't want to risk my friend code or embarrass myself if he refused that lol

Your steam code will not work for retail install. You have to use the retail code that came with it.

Any way possible to install gta v from retail copy ? My current copy is steam.

You can launch any game from Steam. The overlay works in about 85% of them.

Will you be able to use the GTA V disc version as a Steam version? No.

Thanks. May I know when will you realize that I don't want to use steam anymore?
