Tommy Vercetti was partially inspired in Tony Montana, both are raising criminals who become drug kingpins of their own city, both are ruthless criminals with a soft side, but there's also differences, Tommy is not as cocky and flamboyant as Tony, Tommy doesn't get addicted to the drug he sells, Tony has a shorter fuse than Tommy, he often acts without thinking, Tommy is a american citizen , Tony a is illegal inmigrant from cuba and finally, tommy survives the final assault to his house, Tony doesn't.

that said, i'm just gonna be bold and make the next question:

do you prefer Tony Montana or Tommy Vercetti?

Has to be Tony for me... Largely based on this scene:

Despite his obvious flaws, I really admire the tenacity of Tony's character. It's what I've modelled a lot of myself on... And no I don't snort blocks everyday lol.

I mean the idea of being true to yourself, not giving in to society's rules and fake customs, not being somebody else's bitch and having the balls to do what you want to do.

Tony achieving what he wants (mountains of money, a hot lass like Pfeiffer and being his own boss) is all down to his willpower- he didn't let his immigrant, petty status in society hold him back from achieving what he wants.

And whilst I don't necessarily have the same goals as Tony in mind (although I'd take Pfeiffer in a heartbeat), I've conditioned myself to have this willpower and take it with me into anything I want to acheive.

I've felt so liberated just being true to myself and not giving a sh*t about what other people say/ think. I've also achieved some really amazing things that I'd never thought I'd be able to do, and it's largely influenced by Tony's character.

So for this very deep reason, I prefer the character of Tony. Although I do acknowledge that a lot of Tommy's traits are from Tony's character.

Tommy. Tony f*cks himself over by "getting high on his own supply" and well the rest speaks for itself. Tommy is a way better businessman IMO.

Tony f*cking Montana! I love Tommy, he's more consistent than Tony, he's more calm than Tony, but Tony f*cking Montana is the f*cking man. Tony is an awesome guy, you just don't want to get in his way. Tony's personality is a lot better than Tommy in my opinion. I love Tommy, he's my favorite character of the 3D era easily, but he doesn't compare to Tony IMO. If you guys have played Scarface The World is Yours, it's not as good as VC, since it's capitalizing VC's popularity, but it's an awesome game. Balls Meter, a swear button, and Rage mode before it was cool. Tony's little friend is the best gun ever. In Scarface, you can go to the from Miami to the Caribbean to launder drugs. Drug runnings is the best part of that game alongside the buisness takeovers. But honestly, Scarface TWIY is just a carbon copy of Vice City being sold on the Scarface name, it's an awesome game, but it does not have the unique feel of VC.

Tommy Vercetti. I`ve never liked Tony Montana, I think he`s a complete scumbag. Tommy at least has a few hints of humanity about him here and there and is generally nice to people unless they`re being dickheads to him, but Tony Montana is worse than Trevor IMO. I remember he (Tony) treated his sister like she was his property. That`s probably the least bad thing he did, come to think of it.

EDIT: What about you, Hitman?

I must agree Tommy being nicer to people than Tony. Tommy helped an attacked Earnest Kelly who was like a father figure to Tommy. That's what I really liked with Tommy's character IMO.

EDIT: What about you, Hitman?

Tommy, he's way less of a showoff, i can't imagine Tommy buying a fleet of ugly cars just because he can, even though i love the viciousness of Tony, he still shows a soft side, mostly around Elvira and kids, but i don't like his over confidence and cockyness, not to mention that cocaine addicts repel me.

How is this related to anything?

I like both, but Tommy wins IMO. Tony went desesperate after killing his partner at the end (unlike Tommy) and, after falling into his own drugs, he ended up getting killed. I coudln't imagine Tommy in the same situation, he's stronger and more intelligent.

EDIT: I'm waiting for MrTommyV to post in here.

I have to give it up to Tommy Vercetti. He never lost sight of his goals, and he never got sucked into drugs like Tony did.

Yet again I agree with The_Ghost. (Check signature). However I believe that Tommy is better at business than Tony. For example, Tony getting high on his own supply.

I see Scarface as an anti-drug propaganda so that's why Tony gets high on his own supply,

the film is trying to show us that drugs are bad.

He becomes a liability and dies in the end because of the drugs (that and because he didn't do a favor for the Bolivian drug lord, but,it's drug-related anyway) if it weren't because of that he would be an even better character.

My choice would be Tony, I like both of them but Tony is much more interesting overall.

Tommy is too quiet, while Tony shows the whole world who the boss is. That and his $800 suits.

This is really hard for me to choose. I will pick Tommy over Tony only because he didn't get high on his own supply and screw his business up.

Tommy all the way. He is clearly smarter, more focused, more coldblooded and more strategic than Tony. Not to say how much of a clever business man he is compared to Tony.
Tony was way too hot-tempered, impulsive and irrational at times. His completely destructive personality was what really caused his downfall.

Not to mention how much of a scumbag Tony Montana was to other people, to the point of killing his own best friend for years in front of his sister due to another one of his pointless uncontrolled rage crysis (and please don throw me that "Manny saw it coming" excuse).

Tommy Vercitti is way better than Tony in terms of business and personality. Tommy has his own way of getting sh*t done, which was pretty much enjoyable throughout the game.

This very one-sided so far. I also vote for Tommy. Even if I had actually seen the whole movie I doubt I'd change my mind.

You`d probably only reassure your preference for Tommy if you saw the whole Scarface movie.

Thomas 'Tommy' Vercetti, I feel is a better businessman, and keeps his empire in better control.

You are most likely right, but the film is still on my to do list. I heard it's a very long film tho.
