yoječ
Yes, it's a faster CPU, but not substantially. Go for i5-4670k/4690k only if you're going to overclock the CPU (which - mind you - would require an expensive motherboard, ans also a proper cooler on top of that). If you don't want to overclock - stick with the i5-4460 or i5-4590, they're a better bang for the buck. Edited May 3, 2015 by yojo2
sivispacem
The GPU makes far more difference in gaming. A 4460 and GTX 970 will be much faster than a 4670 and R9 270X. DS12
What if I get the 4690k and not overclock it? Will it still need an expensive mobo? As for the gtx 970, only 3.5 gigs of vram can be used. The remaining 0.5 gigs is slow, I read in forums. Hence, going for r9 270x or 290. Hope, it wont bottleneck..
yoječ
No you won't, but you'll waste money on a CPU you don't need. "K"-series CPUs are only worth buying for overclocking. If you still insist on a better CPU than i5-4460/4590 and you don't plan to overclock, get the i5-4690 (without "K"). GTX970 will be way faster than R9-270X. Most of the time, it will beat the R9-290 too. The whole VRAM issue has been blown out of proportion.
Red Hat
Save some money on the mobo and CPU by going 4460 and non-enthusiast, spend it on a GTX970. But the benchmarks of 4670k are better than that of 4460. Benchmark wise, yes, 4670k is better than 4460. Gaming wise, you won't notice much difference between the two. sivispacem
Don't believe all the bullsh*t and scaremongering about the "3.5 + 0.5" thing. It's been blown way out of proportion by a handful of people but the performance benchmarks are pretty telling; the actual impact inngaming for the overwhelming majority of users is nonexistent. swirler 1 AMD Ryzen 5900X (4.65GHz All-Core PBO2) | Gigabye X570S Pro | 32GB G-Skill Trident Z RGB 3600MHz CL16 EK-Quantum Reflection D5 | XSPC D5 PWM | TechN/Heatkiller Blocks | HardwareLabs GTS & GTX 360 Radiators Corsair AX750 | Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic XL | EVGA GeForce RTX2080 XC @2055MHz | Sabrant Rocket Plus 1TB Sabrant Rocket 2TB | Samsung 970 Evo 1TB | 2x ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q | Q Acoustics 2010i | Sabaj A4
DS12
I am still confused. I don'd want to upgrade for 2-3 yrs. If I get the 4670(non k version), will it suffice for the time period? Also, now I am confused whether to get nvidia or ati
yoječ
Yes it will, but so will i5-4460 to be honest. The performance difference isn't big enough for the i5-4670/46790 to dramatically outlast the i5-4460. Personally, I would go for something in between - i5-4590 seems like the optimal choice. Kampret
So, I have finally decided to get an intel processor. Which one should I get-i5 or i7? Also, will r9 270x 4gb edition go with it or should I go for something else? i5. If you're not planning on overclocking, get a 4460 or 4670. How about a 4670k? Also, does overclocking damage anything? If you don't know how overclocking affects components, that means overclocking is not for you. So basically, overclocking won't damage anything if you use common sense in doing it. You need patience and time, since stability tests takes time, not to mention Windows' boot up and shutdown process. You'll need to restart a lot. Also you'll need to monitor temps. Although modern CPU's have throttling to save it from killing itself from heat, you still need to keep your CPU on the safe temps to ensure longetivity. DS12
So, finally decided to go for i5 4690. Which graphics card now? I want a 4gb one. Was goin for Sapphire 270x oc. Any other recommendations?

sivispacem
Yeah, the 270X is wasted with that processor. swirler
If you want this upgrade to perform well enough to last a few years, the 970 is a good choice. Dont mind some threads about people over exaggerating the .5GB VRAM situation. If you only read the negative stuff you would also think GTAV was a total mess, when in fact it performs extremely well. Forget bitchy threads, read through reviews of the card, of which there are dozens. They all agree its an awesome card, I can tell you first hand its an awesome card (I have one in my side rig). Its at pretty much the perfect spot on the bang-for-buck scale, before the premium for more performance shoots up. sivispacem
