Irish45455
I liked this car page on Facebook, that usually posts pics of two cars with captions like, "Mustang or Chevelle" or "Aventador or 488", sh*t like that. They recently posted a picture of a sweet yellow Mustang Boss 302 and a Chevelle SS 454, asking which you would choose. I usually read through the comments, just for sh*ts and giggles, and this one kid was saying that if it wasn't for Ford, there would be no Chevrolet. He said Louis Chevrolet was a race car driver for Henry Ford, and that when Louis Chevrolet wanted to start his own car company, Henry Ford loaned him a million dollars and built Chevrolet a new factory. I love American cars and have read most of what I can on them and know for sure that this kid was either stupid, misinformed, or I don't even know. I told him that whoever told him that was wrong and that it never happened, and he said, "So Eitzel Ford didn't start Ford, and Henry Ford never loaned him money? You're retarded, my grandfather used to work at Ford Motors and actually met Eitzel Ford. Stop trying to misinform people!" Other people have since replied saying that he was wrong and that he doesn't even know what he's talking about, but the kid still maintains his stance and rebuffs everyone who tries to make him see sense. Sounds like an 8 year old on his dads account. Edsel was Henry Ford Jr's Son (Company was founded in Dearborn, Michigan by Ford Snr IIRC). Louis Chevy may have been a racer, but he was very much his own man. Chevy's business was bought out quite early on by William Crappo Durants company (After Durant had left us IIRC or at least not long before he did). More over Ford was a ruthless sod and a known friend of two equally arogant men (Thomas Edison and Harry Ferguson). The odds of Ford 'investing' in anything is slim to F All. It wasn't in Snr or Jnr's ethos to invest. Friggers bought out quicker than loaned or granted anything. You just had to be worth the effort. As soon as you meant something to Ford he paid you out of your company and milked it for all it was worth. They were a capitalists wet dream. Irish45455
My brother was over recently and he thinks he's a real petrol head, and knows all about cars, but he's clueless as all hell. We were watching a review of the new Dodge Hellcat Challenger and the driver hammered it away from a stoplight and my brother was like, "What;s that whining sound? Is that VTEC?" I just looked at him like, "Really?" he told me to click on a drag racing video and it was a diesel Dodge Ram against a Nissan GT-R. They pull up, and take off and the Ram decimates the GT-R. My brother was like, "What's that black smoke coming out of that truck's exhaust? Was it nitrous? He cheated!" I didn't feel like explaining sh*t to to him so I just told him to go home and look things up for himself.
Cudwieser
If you don't mind me asking, but how old's your brother? As for a derv beating a GTR the mechanic must have had a strangled Cat or cummins from a Ken or Pete in it (or maybe a Big Mack ) to get the required torque (a Ram is a stubborn beast to move quick so a good boot is often handy, if a little risky). I can only wonder how the ram didn't grenade the tyres or engine (diesels are a very high stress engine when revved hard, gasoline engines tend to take revving a bit better than diesels). I'd hate to see the repair bill for the Ram after that run though. Tyres, maybe a clutch. Fuel lines need checked and the engine de-coked. Tranny can't have stood up well and the chassis will need a check to see it's straight.

He drove my truck so I could see if he'd pick up on the warped rotors and he tells me I need a new driveshaft, and that's what's making the truck jutter when you brake. So needless to say, he isn't as much of a car guy as he thinks.

Irish45455
Dropped my ex off at work today and the neighbor guy comes out. He looks at the grille of my truck and says, "You drive a Dodge? Man, you know that's a Japanese car company, right? What's wrong with driving an American car? Do you hate America?" I argued with him for twenty minutes straight and he kept bringing up how FIAT bought Dodge and that makes them Japanese. He wouldn't listen so I just said to hell with it and left. Cudwieser
You should have said that he was right. Fait do own Dodge and that your next pickup will have a Ferrari Engine in it. Unfortunately that can swing one of two ways. He'll be in awe or he'll be up for a challenge. If it's the latter I'm sure you'll have him covered I know I'm asking the impossible here (kind of asking the logic of those highlighted in this thread), but where did he get the notion of Dodge being owned by Japanese. surely as a patriot you'd think he'd know who the opposition was instead of shooting in the dark (like a stereotypical US soldier). Cudwieser
Just to throw this out there as fodder for those that wan't to educate the misinformed. Taking a step up from Dodge to another American icon, Mack trucks. Fiat recently bought the controlling stake in Crysler/Dodge making the company Italian owned, but in the late 80's Mack was bought outright by Renault (RVI to be more exact) making a world famous American rig French owned. Close, but not quite. Mack became a wholly owned subsidiary of RVI in 1990 and RVI (as well as Mack) was sold to Volvo Trucks in 2001, so it's Swede owned. Irish45455
Fuel economy and reliability Are the only two things to consider when purchasing a car. That's pretty much what I am looking for when it comes to replacing my frame rotted Dakota. I don't care if it has a V8, V6 or an inline four. As long as it doesn't drain my wallet gas wise or need new parts every week I'm happy. Edited May 24, 2016 by Irish45455

Mack Trucks is directly owned by Volvo AB. Important not to confuse Volvo AB with Volvo Cars, which is owned by the Chinese. Volvo AB remains a Swedish owned company. Cudwieser
RVI equally. RVI (Renault Vehicule Industriale) (sorry if I butchered that) is only associated through name (same as Rolls Royce cars and Rolls Royce Engines or Catepillar and Catepillar Marine).. The various companies or divisions have a relative autonomy from each other inspite being set up by the same company. Renault Cars is in close association with Nissan with a lot of cross pollination and as I noticed when I last went to Oz, new markets where they hand no decernable foothold. Renault wasn't a noticable brand in Australia in 94 where as Nissan was. Nissan still is but some 20 years later there are Renault Dealerships next to Nissan ones. Triple Vacuum Seal
No car expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I still know a thing or two more than most people when it comes to cars. Anyway, a few years back, I sparked up a blunt in some jack ass' backyard because it was the safest place in the area to do so. His neighbor's friend pulls up in a GT2 RS shortly afterwards. An actual gearhead who was with us joked about stealing the car and hitting 200 on the toll road. The jack ass who was with us said, "That car can't go anywhere near 200 MPH. It's just a Porsche. I see those all the time." After correcting him, he fiercely defended his position on the basis of 200 being "faster than we think". gtamann123 1 "shut up, sit down, relax"

Irish45455
Watching Top Gear with my brother: Him: "What's that car called? Lancha Stratoos?" Me: "No, it's the Lancia Stratos. It was a rally car that they make newer versions of." Him: "Whats a Murchee-a-lago? And a Guy-ardo?" Me: "That"s how Murcielago and Gallardo are pronounced in Italian." Him: "..." Him: "You're a f*cking nerd. Why do you know so much about cars? You come off as a know it all. I went to school to be a mechanic, so I know cars too." Me: "Okay, what"s a carburetor?" Him: "That"s a trick question. There's no such thing." Me: "How the hell are we related? How do you not know what a carburetor is? Did they not let you work on cars that weren't fuel injected?" Him:"...What? What's fuel injected? Is that where the gas is just poured straight into the engine instead of the gas tank?" *cue epic facepalm* BigJoe_1
Cudwieser
Carburretor: A mechanical device that utilises a float bowl that is filled with fuel as the throttle is opened. The fuel in the bowl is mixd with a regulated amount of air as regulated by the float valves (opened by the fuel in the float bowls) so that the fuel in the bowl and the air are mixed sufficiently to allow efficient combustion when the fuel air mix is passed into the cylinder via the inlet valve.
