Dumbest things you've heard non car people say

"If you modify a car it's not gonna last a lot of time without breaking up completely"

The funniest part is that he said that because I suggested him to put a customized Intercooler since he lives in the the south of Spain where temperatures get up to 45ºC in the summer

He's gotta be trolling. He cannot- I just looked it up. He has to be trolling.

Honestly, I don't think so. He asks the most random questions, such as why the ambient air temperature reading is so inaccurate when he first starts his truck after it's been sitting (all cars do this). And "how much miles until your ram needs replacement" when his truck has 1479 miles on it.

He bought his truck without seeing it, and then complained about lack of features he thought he was going to get. He wants to leave a bad review for the dealership because he didn't do his own research before buying his truck.

It also sounds like he got kind of taken by the dealership. From the sound of the deal he got, he paid around $3,000 below sticker. At first that doesn't sound too bad. But realistically, he should have expected to pay $8,000-$9,000 below sticker.

My truck came in $9,250 below sticker price. I paid $1,000 out-the-door more for my truck than he did for his. The difference is that my truck stickers for $4,000 more than his, and I got the Mopar lifetime maxcare warranty (which is a $2500 warranty).

In other words, he's just young and dumb.

"It's just a car"

But when you bring up something they're into and say "it's just a X" they get mad. Stupid ass folks.

That chase was hilarious, I was watching it live on TV. It was raining (like the one day of rain we get a year in Southern California), and he put the top down like halfway through the chase, but it only went halfway down. Then they were doing donuts in the middle of Hollywood Blvd. A TMZ tour bus cut them off on the freeway. And finally, when the chase ended, the two guys just hung out around the car until the police showed up, which took almost 10 minutes.

Also, the car was not stolen. It was a rental, lol.

"Yeah that's my mom's Jeep."

Points at Lincoln Navigator.

GG m8.

Small critique, but jeep is also a venacular in some parts of the world. Much like hoover, biro or transit, jeep is referencial to a 4x4 off-roader, usually of utilitarian design (and given that the word jeep itself was a term (of uncertain origin and meaning) before it was a trademark it can't really be critiqued when used to refer to anything other than a Chrysler or Willy's product).

P.S what do hoover; biro; transit; and (just for fun) tranny refer to?

Hoover is a vacuum cleaner

tranny is transmission as far as I'm concerned.

Transit sounds like it'd be a catchall for vans in Europe.

Never heard of biro.

biro is a ball point pen (invented by Lazlow Biro (Hungarian)). Tranny is also a venacular in some places for Transit (Ford Transit (Van)) but as you said tranny is predominantly the transmission. Hoover is obvious as hell :)

Maluch (Fiat 126p) is front wheel drive. - My dad's (mechanic) ex-apprentice.

*Has a RR layout*

I dunno if I can count that guy as a non-car guy, but, let's be honest, he didn't even know which side you gotta turn the wrench to unscrew the bolts, so I guess I can list him as one.

While driving my Punto to give my buddy a lift we hear a V8 sounding car pulling next to us while waiting at a redlight.

My buddy: Is that a Mustang?

Me: no thats a Maserati granturismo, which looks nothing like the new Mustang. Just because it has a V8, does not mean its a Mustang. >_>

The first time he saw my Firebird, he thought my Firebird was a Corvette. People these days.

Some people really just don't know. But that Maserati one, that I can't explain.

It's either people see something really nice but think it's something cheaper/worse or they see a piece of crap with a fancy badge and assume it's the sh*t. :/

My friend everyone: while I was trying to tell him that the Suzuki Samurai he owns it's an easy car to rollover (on pretty fast turns) due to how it's made (a bit squeezed and tall, short car with big wheels) he comes up with a masterpiece: every car will rollover if you go too fast in a turn, even a Lamborghini.

Even if I'm wrong, I can say that what he said was pretty dumb.

Rollover depends on a few factors including

CG height

Wheelbase

Suspension travel

Suspension stiffness

Ground surface (bumps, curbs, wet vs dry, offroad, etc)

Rollover on turns usually is a combination of a high cg relative to the wheel base and lack of adequate suspension travel and/or excessive body roll.

What he said is very vague and therefore stupid. With a low cg car if you turn too fast, you are going to get that patented audi understeer and like top gear suggests, crash into a tree well before you even get on 2 wheels

Sorry wrong thread. I meant to add this on the "Dumbest drivers you've encountered".

Oh and i meant "her", but his is also valid, because I doubt that at the age of 21 you can buy a Camaro in most cases without having dad pay for it.

To put what you've said in simpler terms. If the Centre of Gravity is forced beyond the limits set by the wheels on the ground, without returning to a position between the wheels, the car will go over.

Another variable that has a significant effect on a car's road holding is Friction (I'm aware of your description of ground surface, but the tyres on a car have as much to do with friction and the ground surface and topography will have probably for to do with the fall of the car such an the incline of the ground, more so than moisture). If a car can't grip the road hard enough the car will spin and CG will be conserved unless an obstical or other force dictates otherwise.

From wrecked exotics:

I was at the tesla dealer and asked "what happens if you are on your roof in the model x, how do you open the falcon doors?
Answer: I don't know, I guess you're screwed. But then again it has such a low center of gravity I don't think it will roll.
My reply: I've seen Lamborghinis roll.
