Dumbest things you've heard non car people say

You'd think it'd be obvious why people drive old cars and trucks. For one, they're collectables now, worth a good amount of money. For another, some are very fun to drive. You won't get the same driving experience in a modern Impala as you would in a classic one. Lastly, it's NOT YOUR CAR. It's THEIR time and money. Why are you concerned with what other people are driving?

Exactly.

Ditto. More over you actually drive an older vehicle, Newer ones are nice with their power steering and electrical controls aren't really driven. Also you'll find most who drive older cars also drive newer ones day and daily. They are usually driving older ones for the fun and pleasure. Some drive them because they found their niche, but often have more work-a-day modern cars to get the daily grind over.

Driving an older car gives you an appreciation for what newer vehicles have like power steering and power windows. For some it's just memories. Driving their old man's F-100 just brings back memories of when their old man would bring them down to the malt shop or to the drive in movies and it's their way of keeping his spirit alive. For me, it's looks and performance. I love the way 50's, 60's, and 70's cars look and the way late 60's and early 70's cars performed. 426, 427, 454, 455, 440, 409... Even all the way up to Cadillac's 500 engine. They may have been huge but they made damn good power. Plus, it's just funny seeing some dope in a Civic get dusted by a guy in his dad's old '69 Chevelle.

Check out the vids on www.motortrendondemand.com , especially Roadkill, Roadkill Garage and Engine Masters. Even check out the various tuner vids on Youtube to see how many different engines tuners go for (not as many as you'd think) It is commonly older Supra, Skyline and Chevy motors that are being strung out. Fords do get a look in, but GM's products are the go to for a lot of people (Chryslers are also a favourite).

I agree that progress is inevitable, but cars that need a driver won't disappear. Today, autonomous cars are required by law to have a manual driving mode in case of emergency. In the future, we may program cars to deal with emergency situations better, but chances are there will still be a manual mode.

20 years is a little too optimistic. Level 5 isn't expected until 2020 or later. Then it will probably take at least 10 years for all manufacturers to make it an available option. Once it has become fully optimized and accepted by the general public, every new vehicle will eventually be fully autonomous. Which I don't expect to happen until 2040 at the earliest. After that it will take at least 10 to 15 years for older, non-autonomous vehicles to be completely replaced. So maybe in 2050 Elon Musk will get to live his dream.

Not likely short of shoving a battery up his ass. I'm 33 and will likely be in my own electric chariot (wheelchair) by then and really not giving a damn (pestering you all on the geriatric boards). Musk is 46 and will likely be on his way out or very bloody close.

"1. The Imzpreza is 1.5 tons, the caprice is 2 tons. Heavier, but not so much 2. It takes for the impreza 5.4 sec to reach 60. 11.5 secs for thhe Caprice ( with the amazingly powerfull v8) 3. TORQUE.. The impreza has 400Nm, and the caprice 340Nm. But keep in mind that the Subaru has 2.5L flat 4 engine, and your awesome Caprice is 5.7L V8 and still has worse parameters. My point is the the Impreza is far more superior. No need to comprae japanese v8 or even v6 to an Good ol' american V8."

Found off of another Saabkyle04 video. This video he was reviewing a 1993 Chevrolet Caprice Wagon. And this dude, for some odd reason, decided to compare two vehicles on opposite ends of the spectrum...

I don't think non fully autonomous cars will be barred by 2040 especially considering car culture and all of that junk. Progress will happen and things will change but being realistic people thought we would be further ahead than we are now 30 years ago. With super cars of today becoming expensive classic by that time it would be ludicrous to ban such cars from the road. It's just not gon a happen and if it does then I'd rather drive off of a cliff than be forced to ride in a mindless container doing the fun work for me.

I remember back in the early 2000's some "automotive engineers" said that in the 2010's "every new vehicle will be a hybrid or completely electric". They spoke of them the same way autonomous cars are spoken about today. "The technology is here and rapidly advancing. They'll be here before you know it". Elon Musk and company are jumping the gun just like those who over a decade ago predicted a hybrid takeover. I.C.E. cars aren't dying anytime soon.

There is a better solution to that problem. Online shopping. Get the f*ckers to work for you. If it really is a case of taking the keys from your cold dead hands, just hang up the keys, play dead and order online. Order a V8 Cummins Flatbed with winch. Next register as a break down expert and just wait. You'll never be out of work for the deluded saps getting lost and running out of power (not to mention actual breakdowns). Remember, where there's muck there's brass and god knows the sh*t we're in now.

Well, we're still in the 2010s, and hybrids and electrics are making quite a number of advancements. Volvo already pledged to go full electric starting in 2019; Toyota having a lot of success with their hybrids and electrics; Porsche with their Mission E electric coming up in 2019 as well. Of course hybrids wouldn't outright takover I.C.E., but they're slowly doing so. With batteries becoming cheaper and emissions being even more controlled, it's only natural for it to happen.

But yeah, banning non-autonomous cars will likely won't happen, at least not by 2040.

I think the emissions thing is exaggerated a bit. People think Ferrari downsized and started using turbos because of regulations. They didn't. They did it because it made their cars more powerful. With hybrids still not all over the place I struggle to see electric cars taking off so fast.

My prediction is hybrids will become more popular. You see it starting up again with hyper cars. I'm pretty sure it'll trickle down to most performance cars within the decade. You already see the Panamera Turbo S. It's a hybrid. And very powerful. Once hyrbids take off more I see electric cars becoming more popular but I doubt hybrids will ever go obsolete because it's just a very good balance and definitely efficient.

As far as autonomous technology, I know I'll never feel comfortable with a car doing all of the driving for me on a commute. I think it'll remain an option for decades after it becomes more popular.

Laws of deminishing returns? Make an engine big with a turbo and can't rev as hard, but rev the balls of a smaller engine with a turbo and all hell breaks loose?

My reply: Dude, thanks for sharing your stupidity. Yes, climate change is an issue, but outright banning every i.c.e. vehicle will never happen. At least not anytime soon. E.V.s will slowly takeover, but there will always be i.c.e. cars with enthusiasts behind the wheel.

I don't care if gas cars are a minority, environment awareness needs to be hive mind. If some gas cars r still allowed to exist it f*cks everything up."

The sanctimonious c*nt (no going for etiquette here) is an SJW. A regressive, over PC, 'Do Gooder' who was bullied to to point of spite and self abasement. The degenerate hypocrit has no more care for the environment than OPEC, they just want to control and govern humanity for their own perversion. Ignore them unless you are willing to suffer such retarded delusion as to deny reality itself.

The simplest arguement against their arguement is the taxation of the planet that power generation causes and until that changes it cannot be argued that ICE's are any more or less damaging. If they argue solar/wind power then ask why there aren't more windmills and panels and why entire countries aren't powered that way. Also ICE has a versatility (Diesel) that permits far greener emissions than the combined emissions of all power stations used to charge a battery have yet to match.

It's still an open discussion so if he leaves anymore stupid replies I'll post them here. What's funny is the article that he left that comment on had nothing to do with cars or 'environmental awareness'. He just vented his frustrations in the comments. What a dumbass. I guess he could drive it, but I believe this "vehicle" is not fitting style of this guy. G-Whizz simply doesn't have all the public recognition as ecological vehicle and that was solely reason why this guy bought a Prius. I believe he would buy every piece of crap if someone say it's great for our planet.

This f*cking comment... ugh

"Listen Americans...you don't need a race car engine to drive 100MPH. This is absolutely senseless. And as people are not seeing this senselessness, the government tells them. I am not a big fan of regulations, but being unlogical for no rational reason is just unnecessary. And Americans are irrational with their car culture. I don't want to breathe more dust than necessary just because some people do unlogical things. And driving a 3L engine in a 2-ton vehicle with 50 MPH makes no sense."

Changed to red for formatting reasons

Not a word that tit makes sense. I 'assume' they're trying to say go green or go home. As for unlogical or senselessness firstly logic and rational are synonymous. One relates to the other, making the "...for no rational reason.." is just unnecessary (the guy has a huge grammar problem too). Secondly if he ain't for regs then why does he believe government should tell people how to live. Hell he is setting regulations yet he doesn't like them (hypocrit).

I will concede one point though 3 litres in a 2 ton vehicle is totally illogical. 4.5 litres or more would be better (especially on diesel).

Yeah that comment section is a gold mine of stupidity.

"this stuff is what i'll show my children when they ask why we live underwater and why we didn't stop global warming when we knew it exist"

If the entire planet was underwater (which will never happen; obviously) wouldn't you be dead? Global warming or 'climate change' is real, but changing every car to electric won't curb it.

"i'm a total car person but realistically the internal combustion engine for everyday transportation will go the way of the buffalo. no left or right is going to change that. btw. get your electric cars now before they hit them with a mileage tax cus that will come real quick when they lose significant revenue from gas taxes."

Mileage tax on EVs to make up for loss of revenue from gas taxes? Give me a break.

I think a higher tax on fuel to encourage switching to electric is a more likely scenario. The future is unwritten so who the hell knows what will happen. I just hope that internal combustion won't die for enthusiasts. They can tax it, regulate it ...whatever. As long as they allow us the freedom to enjoy our carbon belching toys on weekends I'll be happy.
