Should mods be banned?

340 members have voted

  1. 1. Should mods be banned?

    • Yes mods should be allowed for single player
    • I hate mods and rockstar are right to ban all mods

Recommended Posts

This is common sense. Yes mods should be allowed for single player. If we don't mess with ONLINE then R* wont find the need nor get any reason to make our ( SP ) life difficult.

Tbh..Rockstar has every right to protect the online portion by keeping it safe from modders/hacking.

Just leave ONLINE alone and without any use of mods/trainers, and just stick with the SP for all the messing around.

Like as mentioned two posts above me I'm also looking forward to Witcher 3.. except for one thing, it doesn't have first person, unless a future mod will make that happen. And once mods get going in GTA V they can improve first person, like get rid of that oval effect which bugs me with that dang dullish area in the center of the screen.

Wow! So many disloyal f*cks in this thread! Waited 1.5 years for this game and now you're refusing to play the game just because they banned mods? Really? GTA V is a game too. Took 7 motherf*cking years for them to develop. They've put enormous amount of work and dedication to SP campaign and you guys are refusing to play it because...... they banned mods? Oh yeah. GTFO then. Don't play it. Amazing logic and reason some people have here.

Just because we don't agree with every move Rockstar does, it doesn't make us disloyal. Are you daft, or what?

The only reason I got it, was for possible modding later on. I already played the game storymode on ps3. I got no interest in playing online, or playing the story much. I have installed mods for every GTA game since GTA 1. I want to add mods to this, just as much as the previous ones.

But it doesn't bother me, scripthook is now updated, and works again bypassing Rockstar's pathetic mod blocking, and sooner or late OpenIV will be be able to edit and save files in the RPF archives.

And the game's hyper-fanboys can go back to crying about "mods ruining the game" again. :D

See? I won't say anything at all. The highlighted text says it all.

Oh boohoo, i played the story in the inferior previous gen version, my bad.

The graphics are different, but the story is the same, it contains the same people. The same missions, the same locations, the same vehicles, so what exactly is your point?

Now it's time to play with mods, not churn through some storyline you've already played.

Since you already played the game, it's not fair for newcomers like me. We need to enjoy the game on the Vanilla version first and then play with mods. So i'm totally supporting Rockstar's move as of now i.e to ban mods.

One penny.

Two pennies.

2 cents that are mine. The price of the simplest nails, perhaps even nails in a coffin, and I love gta modding. Like you might know, or might not. Like you might appreciate, and can't not. Keep an open mind. Raise up. Be the praised modder who pooped on minecraft.

.....Meanwhile Online Mode is the Sun. Everything revolves around the Sun, or Online Mode. Because it exists, GTA as we know it today is decimated. You think things will get better? Hell no. Thus, ONLINE IS RUINING THE SERIES! It's not Mods. It's not anything else besides Rockstar catering to your f*cking Virus Mode, called Online. It's a plague, it's trash, get rid of it. Single Player is what got GTA big in the first place. Single Player is what brought Rockstar their money from their fans over the past decade. ONLINE IS TRASH!

This is the Save Editor for PS3/360 all over again. Every Patch by Rockstar always tried to disable something that WAS ONCE USED for the Save Editor. But with each Patch, Rockstar nickle and dimed all the features away from it. Rendering ALL Patches complete garbage. Only 1.00 is king.

GTA IV + Episodes, including Chinatown Wars is your last good GTA Game. With the inception of V and it's almighty new Online Mode, watch this Series be ripped apart limb by limb and piece by piece.

No, I am not dramatic as this has been happen since October 2013, one month after it's first release. Maybe you guys don't understand since PC is the first time you bought it. But there has been all of this discussion for a long time. You are all late to the party...

For fun I'll contradict you..

No.. Online is actually the future.

Been GTA fan since the first day (GTA 1 with the Jesus bus for the win) ánd I've played most of them in multiplayer (GTA 1 and 2 are still fun LAN games).

Since then they've actually removed the multiplayer functionality (correct me if mistaken, I missed San Andreas, as I'm not a console user).

In GTA IV Stories it was possible again to play online, in which I've had tons of fun (free-mode mostly).. until the kiddies thought it was fun to constantly demolish servers, just because.

Always enjoyed the single player of each GTA game, but found most enjoyment from players with others.

GTA 5 online seems to be the first real installment of the online gameplay, which they will probably keep ammending.

They've done great with GTA online and it's open for a lot of improvement.

I do hope they'll keep making good single player campaigns, but having a try 'singleplay' story mode campaign online.. is the goal.

I think there are already loads of other -open world single player- games, but a true openworld GTA style online game.. I'm not too sure.

It's very likely for these large projects to have big problems during start, but be careful with saying it completely ruins the franchise.. because it's actually the future of the franchise.

Maybe it would be better to wait for the next installment, then to play the 'first' one, if you can't tollerate issues.

OP needs to sticky this somewhere if it hasn't been explictly posted elsewhere. Latest 350.2 patch allows SP modding only. Which is exactly the way it should be.

http://blogjob.com/oneangrygamer/2015/05/gta-5-script-hook-v-now-works-with-patch-350-2/

Finally, at the very least this. I'm gonna miss modding servers though, I still think they should be available like they always were in SAMP and GTA IV MP.

There's no need for this degree of being extreme

Modding isn't an issue for me as I plan on keeping 2 game folders

That's what I do, too. But for PS3. I got a Modded Save via Save Editor and then I got my 100% Clean Save on Version 1.00. When I want to use the Save Editor and mod my Game, I use the Modded Save to have some fun. But eventually, I always go back to my Clean Save as that is usually my play style, anyways. No cheats or mods.

Well, the updates do bring some important fixes.

For example, my game crashed when I tried to aim from vehicles and switch characters, until 350.2 came out.

If I downgrade now, my game will be really unstable, so it would take a lot of mods to justify avoiding these two features.

So for me, it's either mods (of which there aren't too many at the moment), or a stable game. The choice is kind of one sided.

If 350.2 were to become the base patch for mods, however, it would be perfect - my game is running buttery smooth on this patch. Not sure about other people, though.

This whole sh*tstorm comes down to Online cheats being started or "run" in Single Player and then transferring over to Online. Since Online and SP operate from the same exe, things like memory hacks can be made in CE and do not change when you move over to Online. Therefore Rockstar can't detect changes made prior to people jumping into online and running around with modded health/armor/money values prior to joining their servers. SO their answer to this is cracking down on mods all around. Which is bullsh*t. They need to f*cking figure out a good and efficient way to allow us to have our fun and make sure cheaters are caught. I'm really hoping this is a temporary move on their part and that they have an alternative plan in the works because seriously this is straight up bullsh*t.

Not fair for newcomers like you? Bro, the whole point is to have the option to be able to play any way you want. Not f*cking be forced to play strictly without mods. I didn't buy this game for the 3rd time just to do the same sh*t over and over again with better graphics. I want a modding experience that rivals GTA IV and so far that looks like it's not gonna happen.

Man, if rockstar don't want us to mod and have all the focus on online, why the f*ck aren't they actually making online better?

Why are all the clothing, hairstyles and characters rancid when modders could simply make them better? Why aren't there animals online? Why is traffic and pedestrians low? Why is there not more activities, more locations, better stability, more balance, etc. I know these are simple things and modders want to do more, but if you can't improve on the main portion of your game, and focus so much on limiting what your player base can do, that seems like an annoying slap in the face.

Does rockstar know we can drastically improve their game in a lot of ways without a lot of effort?

Proper grammar and English skills would help if you want to get into a pissing match with me...

Just saying...

@Darksider13, you are absolutely correct. I been trying to say that numerous times in this topic, but apparently people just don't understand how GTA V and Online works. This happened with the Save Editor months back and this is happening now with PC Mods. All of this information has been discussed greatly over the past year. I am not sure why people don't understand.

There is always exploits found that you can transfer Single Player related stuff to Online, thus anything done in SP, can be taken to Online, thus ALL mods will be banned. Why? Cuz Rockstar has a sh*tty system and don't know how to sort things out.

You know trust is a very hard thing to come by, followed by logic and reasoning. Best thing to do, ban it all. That is how they think.

so I wanted to actually buy this a third time so I could use that one mod that lets you change yourself into any character, among others... It would be risky to buy it in its current state wouldn't it?

Now while I agree the online mode shouldn't be modded and R* should have a way to turn mods off when someone goes online. However for Single Player there's no harm whatso ever in modding the game, its the experience the player wants to have with the game that they rightly paid for. GTAIV was kept alive because of mods, without mods that game would have faded into nothing with a lot less people playing it.

R* are being c*nts (sorry for my language). They are locking it down for no reason.

honestly I dont mind mods being banned... it allows for more development of mods on GTA IV (which more people have than GTA V) and more research into GTA IV aswell (not everything is known or cracked in IV)...

oh and the porting of features from V to IV

We have always appreciated the creative efforts of the PC modding community and we still fondly remember the awesome zombie invasion mod and original GTA map mod for GTAIV PC among many other classics. To be clear, the modding policy in our license has not changed and is the same as for GTAIV. Recent updates to GTAV PC had an unintended effect of making unplayable certain single player modifications. This was not intentional, no one has been banned for using single player modifications, and you should not worry about being banned or being relegated to the cheater pool just for using single player PC mods. Our primary focus is on protecting GTA Online against modifications that could give players an unfair advantage, disrupt gameplay, or cause griefing. It also bears mentioning that because game mods are by definition unauthorized, they may be broken by technical updates, cause instability, or affect your game in other unforeseen ways.

This should answer the question once for all

Also,

"Our primary focus is on protecting GTA Online against modifications that could give players an unfair advantage, disrupt gameplay, or cause griefing."

To me that looks like it means cosmetic mods in GTAO are allowed, A.K.A. mods which don't affect gameplay. BTW car mods aren't cosmetic mods (unless you decide to do very little edits to a car), as with different wheel position, different mesh scale and different collision meshes, the physics do change.
