Better in V than in IV

I`m sure there have been topics like this but at the very least it`s been a while, and not everyone`s had their say.

What do you think was improved in V over IV?

License plates not all saying LIBERTY (f*ckING) CITY,

a bigger, more varied map,

GTA Online,

more mission variety,

variety with the three protagonists,

less depression,

more music variety (although it wasn`t very GOOD music, not on the OG anyway,)

weapon customization,

more character customization,

vehicle customization,

planes,

the graphics makeover,

the sky,

better TV shows...

That`s about all I can think of for now.

second one: hahahahahahahahahahahaha

first one: GTA 5 left me depressed much much more than IV, possibly leaving a permament wound. Why? cause of how bad the story was....

  • Car customization

Bigger and more varied map

Graphics duh!

Clothing

Car Interiors

Steering Wheels are moving!

The camera finally has purpose. Snapmatic!

Weapon Customization

Ability to buy property (Despite being quite useless, it's still better than no properties at all.)

Character Customization

Planes

1. Better written characters

2 Better story

3. Better driving physics

4. Better damage model (vehicles)

5. Better melee fighting system

6. No recovering health

7. No overpowered special abilitys

8. Only one playable character

9. Faster loading

10. Better ending(s)

11. Better crowded city

12. More and better moral decisions to make

13. No social media & smartphone bullsh*t

oh wait :pp

Ability to buy properties. (Could be better)

Animals

Random events (could also be better)

All customization, weapons, cars, clothing..

This has nothing to do with gameplay, but the PC version was better optimized than IV.

- A massively upgraded Vanilla ELS.

- Better looking PPV's. The Vapid Stanier (V), and Declasse Granger PPV come to mind.

- Female Police Officers/Sheriff Deputies.

• the weapon wheel (hoping for that since RDR)

• car customization and operable convertibles

• winding and curved roads in the rural areas of the map

• wildlife

• wardrobe functionality (scrolling slowly through each item was a real peeve of mine)

I love how Rockstar combined all their games into GTAV. They put a lot of effort into the game.

Algonquin Assassin

-Better player customising.

-Money isn't as useless.

-Vehicle customising.

-Dogs because I love dogs and GTA V has them. Hence why I made an official dog appreciation thread a few weeks ago, but it seems to have died. Not a lot of dog lovers here at GTAF it seems.:(

When your car flips over it flips back up.

Really helpful especially when in past games if it flips over it's pretty much gone

That's how I'd sum it up, at least from what comes to mind, at the moment:

Better in V:

- Much more colorful.

- Conversing with pedestrians.

- Detailed water and underwater world. ( + Scuba gear and submarines )

- Actual wildlife and pets roam the map.

- First person mode, along with detailed vehicular interiors and working gauges.

- Weapon customization.

- Car modding garages.

- Dynamic music starts when action occurs, and original score.

- Multiple protagonists which can switch even during missions.

- Aircraft and with retractable gear.

- Cars with real convertible roofs.

- Purchasing properties.

- Special ability for each character.

- Military base & vehicles.

- More shops such as Ammu-Nation and clothing.

- Tougher and better police, much more annoying and harder to evade. Actually pursuits NPCs sometimes.

- Smooth transitions between cutscenes and the gameplay itself.

- 3D-ish minimap.

- Broad and immersive MP.

- Smooth ladder climbing system. ( without having to press the 'F' key, and waiting for the player to stop mumbling for long seconds, until he actually decides to climb...)

- Better animations.

- Heists and their setups.

- Stealth mode and noise system.

- Better collectibles, which you don't need to shoot.

Better in IV:

- Protagonist and antagonists, and of course, story with an excellent ending. ( + More choices to make )

- Challenging vehicle handling.

- Realistic physics & car wreckage.

- LC, perhaps the most classic setting for a GTA game.

- Better radio stations and songs.

- Picking up objects and being able to throw them.

- Better leisure activities. ( Bowling, Air hockey...)

- Friends can grant you bodyguards, bombs, weapons or free cab service.

- LCPD Side missions and Random crimes.

- Much more available interiors to enter.

- NPCs do more things on the street. Reading a newspaper, holding an umbrella, buying a hotdog...

- Simpler MP.

- No online exclusives whatsoever.

- Better looking explosions, and flames.

- Better melee fights.

- Crouching.

For the record, I prefer IV. Felt like a much 'bigger step' than V had done. After playing IV, I could agree with it's '10/10' score. With V it feels it deserves '8-9/10', although it is a good game.

I wish they made it so it didn`t explode but if it`s a car you need for a mission or something and it flips over that you can flip it back around with a towing hook and another car, or keep ramming it till it`s back on its wheels. Yeah it is convenient. Too convenient.

- Conversing with pedestrians.

Whaaaa? You mean that one time with the hippie Jesus and that one time with "Impotent Rage?"

Nah, I'm talking about having 'general' conversions with any ped. Not the special ones. 'E' button while on foot in PC.

Actually you can have convos with any ped, well it depends if they want to be an asshole or not. I once had a short convo with guy about his job being sh*t. Hahaha.

EDIT: f*cking ninja'd.

^Well this is all news to me, a PS3 only owner. My addition to the list would then be that the PC version is significantly better than the PS3 version, because IV on PC didn`t include new features like that.

I think it is there, the key for that is listed as 'interactive', should do the trick. The same one you use for the horn. Try it.

Can anyone confirm this to be the case on the PS3? I don`t feel like taking the Star Trek Blu Ray out to put the V disc in.

Press the right D-pad, then you can talk to any ped. When playing as Trevor though, you just insult them.

even though i prefer IV , V improved in some aspects

-i prefer the fast paced and fluid combat (too bad about that stupid kick and homing punches)

-meele attacks stopped looking ridiculous.

-you can knife fight with sharks.

-the strippers show her nipples for a change (didn't expect that when i got the game)

-climbing fences and the like is less jerky.

-i prefer the walking in V (in IV it looks like the protags legs are about to give)

-the weapon/radio wheel.

Map size and variety.

Vehicle variety.

Weapon variety.

Facial animations.

Character models.

Cover system.

Ped variety.

Radio variety and length.

Changing clothes.

Blood and bullet wounds.

Being able to run and shoot.

No more weapon sets. It's not realistic but i want 48 weapons in my pocket.

I like the weapon wheel, imagine having to switch 50 weapons the old way :O

Saying either story, driving, characters or interiors is ill advised.

I miss only 1 thing in IV after playing V for a bit.

Lightnings giving my wired gamepad a massive rumble effect.

I'll just add, to what everyone else has said:

  • Hundreds and hundreds of different vehicles with so much variety; from cars to bikes and planes to helicopters to bicycles and a tank.
  • A much larger map.
  • More interactivity in the internet.
  • The stock Market.
  • More than one map.
  • A variety of environments; city, desert landscape, mountain regions, hills, underwater, canals, sewer system etc...
  • Cut-scenes are connected to the gameplay, instead of a loading screen you walk up to the characters who are to feature in the cut-scene and the scene plays seamlessly. Then when its finished you walk out of it with all characters in shot continuing their business.
  • Voice acting is brilliant.
  • Grand Theft Auto Online and all it's content, features and game modes.
  • The R* Social Club displays stats and information about the characters in your save and stats about your game.
  • The ifruit mobile companion app.
  • Weapon variety.
  • New content added periodically.
  • Improved HUD and interface. The minimap, weapon/radio wheel, the interaction menu and the fonts, layout, icons are all better or add to the game.
  • Much more detailed game world. Building interiors, vehicle interiors, every pedestrian, all characters part of the story etc. All are incredibly detailed in look and they feel more dense.
  • Better interactivity with the game. Use of right on the d-pad as an action button works well, on PS4 the swiping gestures on the touch pad to change radio or weapon, the interaction menu revolutionises how menus are conveyed in an open world game - okay maybe NFS: Most Wanted 2012 did this kind of thing first.
  • The Original Score. This game has the best composed soundtrack of any game I've played before. Then there's the way it seamlessly plays during gameplay; from when you get into a chopper, or to when you earn yourself a wanted level.

I have more, but I think that's enough for today. :)
