Gaming and DX12

I've heard rumors that current AMD 200 series video cards are not going to support some of the new features that DX12 has to offer. Can this be true? Looks like AMD 300 series card sales may be as brisk as a 5 dollar night in Tijuana.

In this scenario things will get better but also expensive.

The good: A very low overhead API means CPU usage in games will plummet because the much faster GPU will then do most of the DirectX computations.

The bad: Current game engines will not be supportive of the low overhead API concept and will probably not be patched for DX12.

Ive read nothing about that, but I would find it hard to believe, simply because most of the R300 lineup will be rebrands.

The new API does work on current AMD 200 series cards, almost as good as Mantle. It's been tested with Star Swarm but it seems Nvidia's Maxwell based cards like the 970/980 will benefit the most.

Nvidia already confirmed both maxwell and kepler will support DX12

But going over who benefits more at this point seems premature. By the time its remotely mainstream, nothing currently launched, or probably even anything to be launched this year will matter as we'll be another gen or so ahead. Maaaaybe the top tier R300, depends on how the HBM works out, if the leaked performance is true, I'll likely grab one, but again by the time DX12 is out there on more than a handful of titles, I imagine I'll have moved on anyway.

The Rx-200 series supports more DX12 features than the Nvidia cards do:

Ok but until DX12 makes its debut, I can do no more then speculate. Yeah, I could have checked the facts more thoroughly but that list may not be representative of all of DX12 features. Saved my Star Swarm benchmark results for comparison when the time comes.....AMD 8350/GTX 970 DSR 1440p averaging 57fps on mostly VH settings using my own NPC Global settings.
