Sigma4o4
Hey guys, I got a lot of FPS drops lately. The game always ran fine for me. But suddendly when I play at night my FPS drop really often (from 60 to 30). It's kinda annoying. Happended after I installed a 100% savegame. A friend of mine told me that this could be reason because of more calculations in the background lol. Idk. Messed around with the graphics yesterday for some nice shots of my cars tho. But I restored everything to my settings I play with. I checked it very often if I forgot something but no. That wasn't the reason for the drops. Can anybody help me? TIM74UK
It happens due to V-sync... What you need to do is turn down your Graphics settings until you get best performance to graphics your machine can handle.

poland stronk
It's stuttering. I also had those until recently I read on this forum that switching the game to windowed and back to fullscreen fixes it. I just press ALT + ENTER and all fps drops are gone. Rekuja
they broke something with the recent client patch, plain and simple... game was smooth as butter at launch. Something that "helped" my stuttering was turning OFF Vsync in the game and turning it on via nvidia control panel for GTA, and also changing the graphics cards power from adaptive to full performance. Squiffilect
using vsync I get constant 60fps for a while and then all off a sudden it locks at 30 with fps drops... To remedy this I turn vsync off then apply and then on again. Tada, back to constant 60fps... until the next time... I may try using an external vsync option like in the nvidia control panel and tell it to override the games setting.
Speeddemon25
Had the same problem, enabled triple buffering in catalyst control center and set v sync to off unless application specifies. In game set v sync on and lower population density and view distance a little. That helped a lot. Edited May 7, 2015 by Speeddemon25
PatrickJr.
You can create a reg file for game to always set to high priority, the reg file will also set the launcher and the subprocess to low priority Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\GTA5.exe\PerfOptions]"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000003[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\gtavlauncher.exe\PerfOptions]"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000005[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\subprocess.exe\PerfOptions]"CpuPriorityClass"=dword:00000005 Spider-Vice and TIM74UK

patrikje
I have the exact same problem, smooth 60fps that is being randomly interrupted with 30fps. I turned off V-sync and that fixed it for me.
-jr-
These FPS drops happen when the games anti-cheat scans your PC to see if your using mods... It uses more of your computers resources which then drops your FPS...
