Story Mode DLC discussion thread

E3 makes the most sense and is without a doubt the best time and place to announce anything about Story DLC to generate the most buzz and demand. They will probably do it like they did last year when they announced the Next-gen versions. Most likely it will be either Sony or microsoft announcing it at either of their respective conferences.

 

However if E3 passes and there is still no word of Story DLC then we can safely concede that it is either scrapped or non-existant!

Man Rockstar is gonna start rapidly losing most of its core Singleplayer fans at this rate, especially with the Witcher 3 just coming out and Just Cause 3 on the near horizon.

R* would never do this, take this much time just to make some DLC like EFLC. This SP DLC has, HAS to be huge if they have taken so much time and silently delayed it. It was gunna come out 2014, but it did not due to the circumstances and ofc GTA Online heists. People have been dying for a SP DLC and R* NEEDS to make it big or else, they are gunna lose alot, such as fans and etc..

 

If the DLC is a disappointment, well then I will lose alot of respect for R* games, alongside you and proabably alot of people in this forum.

 

So here goes hoping for a good 2016 release and a huge filled SP DLC.

Good post Phoenix! The only thing I'm worried about is that by 2016 would it even sell well, by then most will have moved on and Just Cause 3 will be brand new and fresh. Plus the awful manor in which Rockstar has treated their SP fanbase shoving their love and exclusivity for Online in our faces, we could see a mass defection to Just Cause 3 and by then the Story DLC might be shunned by Rockstar's formerly loyal SP gamers.

 

My point is that you very well could be right in that SP DLC could be huge and epic, however Rockstar is handling it in the worst possible way by keeping silent about while shoving all these new online exclusive updates in our faces via their stupid newswire!

Exactly man. That is also the huge con about this. And I don't think that from June to whatever random date in 2016 is gunna be enough to market this SP DLC, it certaintly was not enough for TLAD or TBOGT and R* was ''disappointed'' that both of them didn't sell well, and now they are doing the same mistake only worse, they had the chance to take this entire year so far to not only market for heists that was released in March but for SP DLC too. So you are right, there is a huge chance that the SP DLC may not even sell as much as they expect, I feel R* is getting a little cocky thinking everyone in the world will buy GTA V's SP DLC just because its.. Well GTA.

 

I can't blame them either for thinking like this, I mean it's still GTA . But, oh well..

I think in all, the reason they've held on long to the alleged Story DLC: everything coming before it.

 

1. The constant updates to GTA Online, which already (for the most part) take a good chunk of time and coding.

2. The delayed focus to make the heists happen took way longer than it should have. Why? Reason 1.

3. They were ready to release GTA V as soon as they could, even though that meant all of the big features and DLCs were going to have to wait. The marketing was strong and I think if they waited to release GTA V, technology would whip them harder over the years, they'd have to go back and update the game for further optimization, etc. With them getting just GTA V on the PS3 and Xbox 360 early enough, right around when PS4 and Xbox One were ready to start the next generation of consoles, they could earn a substantial profit. Also the PC version, after the consoles got their game.

4. Would we really want GTA V + its DLC in 2016, three years after its official release?

 

To summarize all of this, profit is really the biggest factor behind this delay. Is it a good thing? For Rockstar, yes. For the fans, it's highly debatable. I look at Rockstar not only a company for making some of the best games I've played, but one of the most strategic businesses I've watched in recent years. A lot of people would look at them as greedy bastards who really don't care about the fans. I would want to say the same, but what do you think they do with the massive amount of money they keep making? Develop expensive and great games for years.

 

 

 

TL;DR: Profit. In the end though, the DLC has a window of release and it is shrinking. Without advertising it soon enough, Rockstar IS losing time and potential profit if they want to milk GTA V further. Based on the recent code discoveries, I imagine that Rockstar is making some sort of announcement soon. E3 or bust, folks!

my point is if rockstar focused on military hardware in the upcoming dlc it wouldn't feel like a gta game anymore. ok well they can have one or two missions where trevor steals a tank or a plane like in the 3d era game. but thats about it. i don't think a military themed story dlc would be fitting of a gta game since franklin and michael don't have a military backround anyway. all i'm saying is don't over do it. what purpose would they have in going against the military anyway. the only heave duty hardware i'd like to see in story mode is the technical , valkerie and hydra.
