Dudes, I think I just found a proper E3 Beta gameplay of Grand Theft Auto 3 :p Also, in these days, I'm working on some interface things (loading screens, etc.) which is the reason why I haven't posted anything yet. Though I have also made some improvements to the south Portland that I will show later

 

Here's the trailer and gameplay: (it doesn't look as Alex' mod to me)

Gamerjman19: We're currently working with Sergiu on an improved Timecyc that will be used in both First Builds and GTA3D. ;) But don't worry, it won't be dramatically different from the graphics that I shown on all the screens here. It will be an improvement whch I find important to refine the experience to be just beautiful.

 

Also, i'm experiencing some temporary difficulties with buildings in the Saint Mark's area, which is probably the main reason for being silent.

 

P.S. I finished frontend graphics (Menu, Loading etc.) and I can't wait for people to experience it themselves! :) It's a surprise so don't expect it to be released in this topic :)

Will you be working on the cut area north of Saint Marks shown on this wire frame or just keep the vanilla map with alpha styled changes.

I'll just write it here as well. I've discussed this with Gallardo at some point but he had a few reasons as to why he wants to make his own project.

 

1) He's been working on First Builds since 2012.

2) He wants to build an alpha experience - not some "full" remake.

 

As for collaboration, we're collaborating. We work a lot with each other and share some intel.

I had to answer this question a few times and when it comes to GTA3D / First Builds merger, they are still two different mods with different goals. However as Serg said, we started collaborating earlier this year and we share our findings, ideas and in some cases even files.

 

When it comes to difference between First Builds and GTA3D, I compare it to Steve Jobs movies. There's this one with Ashton Kutcher. It doesn't strictly go for the perfect replica of Jobs' life - it's built mostly on visual and experience of how it could've looked like. And then, there's this one with Michael Fassbender, to be released this fall. This movie is based on official biography and tries to be as accurate as possible. And that's the difference between First Builds and GTA3D.

Gamerjman19: It's just a bug that appeared on a testing machine. It's most likely related to hardware however. (P.S. it's a different machine than ones I use typically)

COMPATIBILITY STATUS UPDATE:

 

So, as I found out lately, there's some unknown problem that destroys the experience from First Builds when playing it on Windows Steam version of game. Interestingly, the Mac Steam version works well, which is confirmed by most of the screens I took while playing the mod on my MacBook.

 

For now it looks like PC users have to get non-steam copy of GTA III to play First Builds, while Mac users can enjoy the steam copy of the game. I can't confirm right now if the same applies for Mac App Store version.

BTW I've been playing GTA3 on PS2 now (I have the DMA version of game so it's one of very first releases) and found some interesting tidbits:

  • Patriot is spawning in Portland traffic
  • Ammu-Nation has white icon instead of green
  • Some cars look closer to the E3 version, like the Esperanto
  • The "BUSTED" text is bit more reddish, but still orange

I might be mistaken, but didn't the Patriot spawn in Portland traffic in ALL versions of the game?
