Elder Maxson
To graduate from your high school, was completing a certain hours of community service required? If so, how much and what did you do? Me, my high school requires 20 hours completion before graduation (2 months from now), and I already have 15 hours done so far. and the last 5 are going to be spent at working at some carnival at a local church. Dottie
my school required 10 when i was there. But spending 4 years in FIRST Robotics as a high school student easily took care of that
Sean O'God
My school requires you to do 40 hours of community service to graduate. Luckily, with all the volunteering I've done so far, I only need 40 more hours of service to get the minimum requirement. universetwisters
I think mine did. Nobody made a big deal about having to do X amount of hours of community service but regardless, I volunteered a lot at the textbook depository, checking in/out textbooks, making sure everything was in check on the shelves, etc. and when I graduated, I got a certificate saying I completed a minimum of 75 hours of community service. It may not get me into college, but at least it looks nice on my wall.
Alexander
Yes. We have to do a couple of projects to graduate, and from a couple of years ago, one has to be something for the community or the school.
Tacymist
Yeah, I think it was 40 hours I had to do. Anyway, I volunteered at a nursing home and it was pretty nice for the most part. All I had to really do was clean and occasionally assist this one woman who was blind. She was nice. =) During my breaks I would watch I Love Lucy, I grew up watching this show so I always looked forward to this. And I helped decorate for Christmas and put up the tree, which I enjoyed doing because I love that time of year. It was a good experience overall. =) Fallcreek

CrysisAverted
Yes I did the community a service by not being in the streets lookin all thug like no but seriously, pretty much everyone I knew bullsh*tted that segment, for the most part anyway
Nick1020
The school district where I lived required at least 40 hours. I almost failed because I was 10 hours short.
t3h PeNgU1N oF d00m
My school never required community service. The computer technology class did, however, which I was enrolled in for three years. I think you had to log 20 hours each semester, but I never did anything and still passed without anyone noticing. Hell, I took it for three years during high school (it was an elective class, and had different levels for each year you took it), and I never knew we had to log community service hours until my last year. Being the quiet kid in the back of the class had its advantages.
I Love Anna Kournikova
It wasn't required at my school but it had things lined out if you wanted extra credit. We had to do things like ride alongs with police and experience stuff. SF Giants 2010 - 2012 - 2014 World Series Champs

E•MO•TION
My high school required us to complete 40 hours of community service in order to graduate. It was highly recommended that we completed them in grade 9 and 10, but I left them for the summer after grade 12 lol Edited April 23, 2015 by 2281
Webster.
No In the UK, you go to high school and write on pieces of paper. When you want to graduate, you take tests which involves writing on pieces of paper. How does helping at a church give you a better chance for a future computing career? Lhabia
40 hours required. I still have about 40 left to do. I'll probably write down some bullsh*t on the form they gave me, which I lost.
Audiophile
Pretty sure all high schools in Canada require students to do community service to graduate, for the most part, no? Being in Ontario, I had to do 40 hours. I'll be totally honest, I had no time to do that. I don't see it as volunteering out of the goodness of your heart if you are essentially forced to do so. It's good for experience, I guess, but if I have to pick to devote time to a job or volunteering....I know what I am going with. I bullsh*tted my 40 hours. Put effort into it, though. If you're going to BS it, obviously don't make it too obvious. Verdant
My school had the choice of VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Education) once you reach Year 10 which did require community service. I'm not too sure how many hours it is because i didn't do this, but some people told me that it was like 100 hours? Instead of opening your textbooks and constantly revising, the community service was pretty much there daily study you could say. ClaudX
I live in the middle of f*cking nowhere. People would have to drive a decent amount to find a place where they could do their community service. For that reason mostly, we don't require it. However, we recently had our community service day, where we spend almost the entire day out in the community helping out.
