Liberty City in V? Anyone trying?

Due to the new shaders and lighting in V, The entire city would need a complete overhaul just so it meets the same standards as the rest of the game..

Not saying it isn't possible but it would take a lot longer then what some people might think.

 

Shaders? Not really. V uses diffuse maps. Just like IV did.

V uses specular maps. Just like IV did.

Gloss\roughness maps aren't introduced in RAGE yet. So it's not like we have to generate a whole new shader map somehow.

'All' that needs to be done is a conversion table for which IV shader converts best to which V shader, filling new parameters with some standard values*

 

* For instance, V introduced fresnel, but you can use some standard value for that, no big deal.

 

I probably didn't use the best wording. I was thinking more of the quality of the textures themselves rather then importing the current ones into V.

Textures in IV look horrendous compared to V, Just compare them both and you'll see what I mean. The resolutions of all sorts of assets are about double what they were in IV if not more.

Examples: NPC face textures used to be 256x256 and now its 512x512. Niko's face texture is 512x512 and Franklin's is 1024x1024. (Same goes for Michael and Trevor.)

I think a big reason to put LC into V is to have it look better and that would not be the case with the current textures.

Poly count is also increased but thats a whole different animal.

 

 

Modders already replaced GTA IV textures with higher quality ones, I hope they can import them into GTAV

Yeah those texture packs were pretty alright other than the fact that whoever made them thought it was a good idea to replace all the brands and advertisements with their real-life counterparts.

So I do hate to bump up an old thread like this, but I want to analyse and examine the feasibility of bringing IV's Liberty City map into GTA V. With the unfortunate events surrounding the multiplayer mods, I want to assume we'd have to actually mod V to get this to work. I might be wrong.

 

To start off, I'd like to contribute and along the way learn to code a project like this, even if it takes a while. If there's anybody who's already started on this, I'd like to receive a message or at least a reply to tell me what's going on so far. My goal would be to work on the map in baby steps, and not get too ahead of ourselves when we have one small goal done. My large goal in the grand scheme of things is to have the entire map in its glory within V's engine, and not look like crap. That's obviously a lot of skill and patience to ask for, and all I ask right now is what would be required to make this work? Thank you.

Honestly I doubt the project will get very far. Take a look at the maps people tried bringing to GTA IV. The SA port never got very far. Big projects like this never do.

I have my doubts too, but to get somewhere along the way would be cool. I still have doubts about the LC DLC rumor, but if that ends up never coming to fruition, I wouldn't see the harm in getting something started.

Huh? the SA port mod is pretty much finished. Sure, there are some bugs, and it's not redone to be HD, but it's pretty much finished.

Finished, or a somewhat stable and working state? Its final release was still a beta release. No working traffic or ped groups is one of the biggest things I remember. Everything could just spawn anywhere.

Another Online DLC for the hackers to ruin? I wanna Story Mode DLC soooo bad!

I've heard rumors that something is in the works but as usual R* is being tight lipped.

Pretty dope. I wonder what it would look like with all regular traffic and peds. Though it looks a bit weird with the GTA V style brigthness and lighting.
