Shayd80
You know what's better than all these AA options? 4k master race. 4k 30 fps ? nah thanks just recently decided to compare things to DSR @ 1440, and with turning AA down to 2x (keeping both FXAA & TXAA off and leaving MFAA on) it definitely looks way better to me and still runs good. just 2x AA w/ MFAA is a sweet spot for me at 1440 aliasing is vastly decreased and just the improvement in sharpness alone is highly noticable ...just kind of a pain having to go back into the settings all the time since it gets set back to 1080 if I alt tab ------ * and in response to some other posts, you dont need a 'monitor that supports DSR'.. its the video card that supports it (unless if you want to downsample the old fashion way) ..The output to the monitor hasnt changed dimensions or anything, the video card downsamples it to your native resolution You play with DSR @ 1440 + 2X MSAA + MFAA. ? Impossible with your rig...I have the same gpu as you do, 8 gb ram, i5 4690k, and I would drop to like 33 fps with that combo! Depends on what settings he's using, very high then yes i don't believe that but normal might be possible

swirler
4k 30 fps ? nah thanks Has to be said, 30fps on a TV doesn't look as bad as on a monitor. Can game with a solid 30fps with msaax2. Must give it a try without msaa and change vsync to on, doubt it'll net that many more frames tho.

FilipCRO
Guys, hear me out. My rig is: i5 4690k @ 4,2 GHz, 8 GB RAM 1866 MHz and a GTX 970 (slightly overclocked)... All my settings are maxed out in 1080p (grass quality @ Very High, MSAA off, only FXAA). I play at locked 40 FPS. Will I see a good performance boost if I get a GTX 980 Ti 6 GB VRAM when it comes out next month? I want to play at least at 45 FPS...

Scalesdini
You know what's better than all these AA options? 4k master race. 4k 30 fps ? nah thanks I get 38-50fps, but since HDMI 1.4 limits 4k to 30hz, I turn vsync on and get absolutely, buttery smooth gameplay. You know your brain adapts within a matter of a few minutes and there is... really not any difference. Except I never experience frames dropping from 60 to 50, etc, which does make a difference, because that is jarring and awful to look at.

But for this game it wouldnt do that big diffrence thou a titan card having trouble to get stable fps at all settings maxxed. Shayd80
Crimson Flam3s
So my configuration is an gtx 960 oc and i5 4590. Most settings(texture, shadows, shader, etc) are on highest and the rest are one notch under highest, such as grass on very high. I can get 85-100 frames on the city and it comes down to 70+ frames on country side. The issue is that the moment I enable, 2xmsaa, I lose about 20-30 frames, is that normal? I thought it would be more like 5-10...
swirler
I think you would be mad not to hold out to see how the r390x performs before purchasing a 980/ti/titanx at this stage. You know what's better than all these AA options? 4k master race. I havent tried 4k without AA, but its no secret that the more pixels you have to draw with, the less jaggies are a problem. So I decided to give it a try! Also, I checked out MFAA, as I havent touched that before. So, with a modestly OC'd 970 and devils canyon, heres how it went 4K Settings: Screenies: City was generally in the 40's, Grass areas dropped to 30's. Played smooth for the most part, with 2 instances of juddering witnessed when I was trying to drive at speed in grass area's to see how low the frame rate would go, it held in the 30's very well, lowest point captured was 28 after a nice crash landing while sliding backward! --------------------- Now on to MFAA vs MSAA (Not a fair fight on the stills) Settings: MSAAx4 (MFAA was done with same settings, other than MSAA set to x2) Screenies dont translate well with MFAA, I read FRAPS and afterburner dont capture it, but it seems these grabs taken from Steam dont do it justice either, also there is a little compression showing, so ..... 3 shots, First is MSAAx4, the next is MSAAx2 (with MFAA turned on in nV CP) The IQ is very close, Id narrowly give it to MSAA. But, taking into consideration the performance difference when going with MSAAx2 +MFAA, MFAA is the better choice imo. So TL;DR(/look?) Res > AA MFAA is awesome IQ:Performance Hi-res shadows are hungry on frames, if youre short, be sure to drop it

DSR 1440P cost more FPS atleast on my rig than 1080p with 2MSAA + MFAA. ive tryed it out yesterday. And for people that have issues with FPS try to lower grass from Very High to High, yes u get rid of some barley noticed shadows but gain sh*tloads of FPS. Atm i think the grass shadows are bugged cause they cost way to many FPS! They arent optimised whatsoever! Thats why people can say wow i play almost everything on ultra and i got 70 fps in town and outside it dips to 40. Well still atleast i wanna play it @60FPS minimum all the time even if im on country side. So my configuration is an gtx 960 oc and i5 4590. If you card cant handle MSAA play without it and force FXAA in Nvidia Controlpanel.
fERON
Well , i'm using 2057x1286 resolution on 1680x1050 monitor. I also turned on FXAA , so i can barely see any jaggies compare to 4xMSAA+FXAA. As i said before: I have more FPS with DSR. R* should optimize MSAA. Edited May 7, 2015 by fERON
Dyngsur
the thing i wounder is if you can improver ur fps for example if you using 1440 p resolution can you start turning down other graphic options to get more fps but still have a better looking game than using 1080. I know MSAA is one option to turn down but is it any other options that u dont get so much benefits from when using higher resolution

FilipCRO
I changed my mind, MFAA is not "God". You get strange artifacts on the ground (like pixelated black squares) if you use MFAA. Maybe R* will fix it with their new patch, but I aint too optimistic.
