AccountNoLongerUsed
Am I the only one who thinks the next game should be an open world role playing game? I mean think about it: making your own character (with lots of customization option, akin to Saints Row), helping or hurting gangs which will affect your fame or infamy with them, fully customizable Safehouses, etc. There will even be a Heat (Cop, uses Star as symbol) and Notoriety (Gang, uses the symbol of the gang you upset). If you have high infamy with a gang, you will automatically get a non removable level 1 Notoriety level whenever you enter that gangs territory and as long as you are in their territory until you make amends with that gang or capture the territory. Homicidal Hipster
I would actually love this. As long as it's more like mass effect and not saints row. I love creating characters in any game and choosing there personality, race etc It would be awesome if you could choose your characters criminal specialty for example you can choose between a hit man, gang banger, bank robber, professional car thief, drug lord, gun runner etc. lastmanonearth

Osho
Sounds really good. I'd love to see more RPG elements like in GTA SA but being more complex and interesting with varied choices. Based on the interviews, Rockstar designs the open world first, which they really do an excellent job. But, when it comes to focusing on the gameplay over the graphics by filling those beautiful open worlds with something more meaningful that included everything from activities, content and the ideas suggested in this topic - Its here! Rockstar sucks big time, so much so that, even SR2 and many other games with smaller worlds feel superior in this regard. So yeah, its best to focus more on such interesting ideas and push the envelope further by taking more risks than playing it safe and repeating the same old boring formula with hardly any change outside the graphics. lastmanonearth
I definitely like the idea of a strong gang presence and territory wars. That was pretty much the whole GTA and GTA 2 and those games were fun as hell! Why on Earth they would take that out I will never know. Maybe it was because territory ownership would conflict with a multiplayer, who knows. Luddite

Goldn-Bayse
It would be awesome if you could choose your characters criminal specialty for example you can choose between a hit man, gang banger, bank robber, professional car thief, drug lord, gun runner etc. It'd be cool to see if each class had its own special feature. For example the bank robber gets 10% more money than the others, drug lord gets more health, gun runner gets weapon discounts, gang banger can call back up, etc. I'd also like to see an entirely new city not based off any real life city as mentioned above. Giving the players more freedom and choice in my opinion should be the next step. BlackSnow176
Sorry for bumping this thread, but no. Creating your own character would be one of the worst things to ever happen to the series. San Andreas was very close to an RPG, and this was the most irritating part of the whole game IMO. Besides, Rockstar always had a way with writing good protagonists. I do like GTA 2's gang system though. I thought it was amazing and would've loved to see it in the GTA III era. That would've been a nice addition to GTA III and SA if it somehow fit into the stories Maybe if GTA VI is gang-oriented, they could actually add a similar system. I doubt they would do it in a game set in Miami.

SA was not close to RPG at all.

Im sorry if this sounds stupid Firstly, do not apologize for presenting ideas. It's not stupid, and I strongly agree with you. One of my favorite things about GTA San Andreas was customizing CJ and taking care of his meters which made it more life like. Creating a full character from scratch would be awesome. Each playthrough would be vastly different and worthwhile. Customizing a safehouse would be another awesome addition, a passed due one at that, or at least the ability to move the things already in the safehouse around. I do not like your idea about non-removable notoriety levels until conditions are met. In Red Dead Redemption, nothing was more annoying than having a constant bounty on John's head and having to fight constantly. I wouldn't want to piss off the Vagos for example, and be attacked each time I came into the city. That's too gimmicky. It's good as is. GTA definitely needs more customization without running into Sims territory.

And maybe instead of "permanent level 1 N in angered hood", a message comes up that says something along the lines of "you have entered an enemy hood, if you dont desire unwanted attention, keep your weapon holstered and drive normally"

Normally, carrying a weapon around enemy gangs will draw their attention just as reckless driving will. I like what you're getting at though. Personally, I'd like to be able to receive favors from different gangs and work for them gangs to receive them favors. For example, maybe I steal some cars for the Ballas and in return, I can call them up for backup a few times. Dee-account-with-1kbans
I think they should. I for one think they would master all the RPG aspects and maybe even give Bethesda a run for their money. Osho
Not a bad idea! Rockstar is, at least, master in creating beautiful worlds, regardless of whether one finds it boring or not. It wont be a lot of trouble to sell to the casual kiddies either. A cinematic RPG with a big map full of gorgeous looking landscapes to explore, with no real plot, no C&C, just a character creation full of exciting numbers and options to choose, hundreds of map icons to make everything easy to figure out, LOTS of mini-games, LOTS of quests to do, BUT ...water it down, to make sure even 12 year old can play it! Then I believe Rockstar can beat Bethesda easily.
Dee-account-with-1kbans
Not overboard RPG like CC, levels , etc. But a light RPG. Undyne
You know the thing about GTA is that you get to be someone else. A cold-blooded criminal with an intriguing personality and past, each one has his unique story. That's the charm of it. Now, I'd really like to be able to create my own character and all that jazz but it won't be that good ol' GTA for me. R* are completely capable of making a brilliant RPG game... but with a different title leave GTA out of it. Payne Killer

I know there's gonna be a lot of people not cool with that, but I think there'd be a lot more who would be (alot!). Imagine every major (or even not so major) city in North America (Canada, US, Mexico). I have other ideas for it as well, but instead of going on and on... I'll just leave it at that (unless you wanna discuss more). There is one. It's called 'Grand Theft Auto: Online' Its co-op play, and not terroblu well done at that. It's ok, but limited.
