ZombieBrain
I have an annoying problem with aliasing in GTA V. Even when I have all possible AA options enabled and maxed (FXAA + MSAA + TXAA) the aliasing is still visible, especially while in motion (but also when stationary). You can see it in this image (take a look at my bike or at the fence on the right). http://oi59.tinypic.com/2ptcf9t.jpg (my actual ingame resolution is 1080p, tinypic rescaled the image) Anyone knows how to get rid of that? Tried Reshade + Sweetfx but that didn't help. I'm playing with GTX970 and i7490k at 1080p. My settings (don't mind the current resolution as I was trying with DSR): http://pastebin.com/zWJ5Twhy The most annoying is that when I'm driving the aliasing on cars and objects is shimmering and it drives me crazy! AA is just a bandaid for a poor monitor. Put the extra resources you're using for AA toward a higher resolution and get a better monitor.... AA can only do so much. ZombieBrain
I am using the EIZO FS2333 gaming monitor, so I guess it should be okay?
RedDagger
Erm, don't listen to what the other guy said, bad AA doesn't mean you should buy a new monitor... :S Anyway, try disabling AA in-game and enabling it through the nvidia control panel, some of the in-game settings don't seem to work properly. TheMostKnowledgable
You should not use FXAA if you are using real AA. FXAA is jaggy and blurry. nVidia panel fxaa is reported to look better than GTA V fxaa, but I didn't confirm this and it sounds odd to me to say the least I can about that. Try with MSAAx2 and x4 and enable MFAA in nvidia control panel since you have a 900 series card. It is faster than MSAA alone (must be enabled in game for MFAA in control panel to work!) Also, at 60fps you will still definitely see a lot of shimmering IN THE DISTANCE, like say, 50 meters away when a tree is just a few pixels wide at the trunk. You will need A LOT of aa to combat that. It samples less often for 30fps, try locking the frames there if configuring your AA properly doesn't help. You more or less want to treat AA like an antivirus; One at a Time. I don't recommend txaa to enhance the msaa either, but I've been going back and forth with it and now I'm not sure. I think it's nice on x2msaa, but I use msaax4 with mfaa and I like it. I lock to 30fps (vsync half, my monitor is 60hz max). without locking it, the aliasing is more so you see it more. If you turn off FXAA and compare, you'll see an immediate in motion and still frames improvement I'm sure. I am used to playing at 60 fps and 30 fps feels sluggish to me Edited April 22, 2015 by ZombieBrain
TheMostKnowledgable
You might get away with 4xmsaa and still do 50fps with that rig. maybe you will do 2xmsaa and txaa instead, depends on if you really want to hit that 60fps or not. I found that 50fps was more sluggish and micro-stuttering and with a 960, I had to turn things too low to meet the vblank, so I opted for the higher settings on 30fps. You really do get used to it fast, and with half or full motion blur, you will notice it even less and be able to immerse. I have been playing 90fps cod (60 actual seen) and 60fps far cry 3 and other games before the V release, so 30fps got me at first too and I was like "sh*t, I don't like this anymore!" But once I maxed it all out as much as I meaningfully could on 1080p size screen, I decided to try a bit longer. On the first day, I felt some eye strain! But by the end of that first day and onward since, it's been smooth and I almost feel like it's 60fps sometimes - key word is "almost", it's clearly not, but it is very smooth when the frame rate is steady 30. Smoother than 40-50 variable I will get if I unlock it, so I just let the PC take it easy. The plus side is, when I go play CoD, I feel like it's a new game lol. The high FPS stands out more than ever. Some people, maybe for you, it won't be an option, for me though, it's turning out nicely until I upgrade a bit later Let me know how it goes without the FXAA though, I'm hoping you'll do 60fps with msaax2 and txaa, then I will be more confident about a 970 for my upgrade. I need more info on the next maxwell cards and new form factor time frames for release (pascal) before I jump, but 970 is looking like my next step up, and i won't spend that for a 980, so that's not an option, and since I do other things than game, I really can't go back to AMD cards and their drivers. Don't want to go back in generations (was eyeing a 680 recently, decided against it). Hoping you do well and end with steady near-60 at least and not too variable, will help me decide. ZombieBrain
Yes, I can do MSAA x 2 with TXAA and it's basically locked at 60fps almost all the time (dips to mid 50's when i go to heavy grass/trees area). There really is a big difference with MSAA + MFAA from control panel, thanks. I am very satisfied with performance from my GTX970... only that aliasing problem was messing with me Edited April 22, 2015 by ZombieBrain
