These lists are looking good. It's gotten me even more curious though and I have a question.. do people think that GTA Online has a set timeline? If so I definitely don't think the updates have been released in chronological order. If we play it from scratch and go by rank then the latest update is one of the first one's to happen in the timeline with the missions being available to players after reaching rank 5. The missions also seem pretty small time compared to some of the other jobs and are definitely more nickle and dime-ish than the heist missions (the only other full scale mission pack released to date by Rockstar). So is the intention that the various contact missions build up some kind of a loose narrative about your character's rise to power or am I just thinking too much into it??

It's an old thread, but it's amazing how you guys took the time to make such lists. I think this topic should be pinned :catloaf:

GTAO is definitely supposed to have some sort of loose "canon" to it, but it's hard to place. I mean it does provide a tiny bit of backstory for characters like Lamar, and Madrazo since some of their contact missions are referenced in the SP Story. Apparently it takes place a few months before the Story. I haven't touched it in a long time, but apparently some people now are thinking certain updates and their missions take place after the SP Story?

Also, do you have any plans (or already) have your own mission list? Obviously it's not as complicated as IV, TLAD, and TBoGT, but you definitely served as an inspiration for this topic. I would imagine you would put more thought into it than I did, like how ron was using the online news reports, text messages, LifeInvader posts etc. when he first started putting his together.

"*" indicates free mode co-op missions that are implied to be given by the person listed

"**" this mission is unlocked at rank 16 but this is clearly a discrepancy since it has to be proceeded by Crystal Clear Out otherwise their numbers would be reversed

"***" indicates the last mission for the respective employer

"****" is currently the last mission unlocked in Online

I know for sure that Meth'd Up is linked to Romance isn't dead but I can't recall any other direct links between missions other than those in the Heists and Lowriders packs. The closest I can come to making another connection is that the Heist group "Series A" must also take place after Romance Isn't Dead despite it being available from Rank 12 rather than 13 or 14. I would say logically though it would take place after Diamonds Are For Trevor and Chopper Tail which are the two final missions given by Trevor from his trailer. I'm not sure about jobs taking place after the main story but I think Series A would logically take place after the mission Friends Reunited in the single player campaign since it involves Trevor visiting the players high end apartment which can only be located in Los Santos which is suggested to be somewhere he has never been before that mission.

Online contradicts things, Trevor going to LS for example. It's referenced in the story but those are more self referential nods than actual continuity. The heists and mission cutscenes are really all just little 4th wall breaks presented cinematically.

That may be the case since I presume that the Online story was made some time after the single player campaign. Rockstar's attention to detail has never been great but there are a few little hints which suggest that the missions are supposed to form some kind of structured narrative therefore I'd say Trevor appearing in Los Santos is more of an oversight than anything else. The missions in the Lowriders update seem to fit in perfectly at the point where they become available too.

I was reading the front page and I thought of this with the "Getaway Driver"

It should be Michael who finds Packie, but after "Marriage Counseling" and before (obviously) "Casing the Jewel Store" It doesn't make any sense (to me) if Frank picks up Packie because Michael always (Exception of Chef) mentions new characters and Frank isn't planning the job at Vangelico's.

Im still working on the list and I think I have a few ideas.

Three's A Company - Weekday Noon/Early Afternoon

Steve and Dave look like their on break. That's really the only reason I have.

By the Book - Weekend Evening/Night

At the end of the mission, Steve mentions that he's going to a racquetball game, instead of going to work, implying he's off work. The party also supports this since parties are usually held at night during the weekends. Michael calls Devin " The weekend interrogator" during Blitz Play.

The Third Way - 5 to 6 AM

The mission ends during the evening, so I think it's best it start at the morning.

Scouting the Port - Weekday

We can assume Floyd works a Mon to Fri day job. Also the time automatically starts at 6 AM.

Hang Ten - Weekday Morning

Floyd is seen heading off to work before Trevor stopped him. Unlike Scouting The Port, it doesn't have the time set.

Minor Turbulence - Morning

In the intro, Trevor is seen sleeping and Michael looked like he just woke up. There is other things that indicate it's morning such as Trevor making coffee, Michael urinating, and Trevor asking " how's the business" to Ron, suggesting this immediately takes place after Caida Libre. This can take place any day of the week.

Does OFFSHORE method actually break the story? I mean in dialogue sense?

Not really it's more alternative dialogue, including if Micheal went through flight school. Trevor mentions taking over the Sandy Shores Airfield from The Lost, which Michael laughs went Trevor is serious about.

i prefer the Freighter method as I believe it is more canon as there is a news report for that method, Offshore doesn't have one for it or even any events surrounding it..

Doing a playthrough and I got the optional phone call for Franklin and Lamar after completing "Friends Reunited." In it Lamar will ask Franklin where he went "those few weeks," while he was lying low. This implies that canonically Chapter 2 (Mr Phillips through Friends Reunited) takes place over the course of at least two weeks maybe.

I can believe that Trevor has too much time not mourning Johnny

Doing a replay of GTA V, and I want to change placement of "Deep Inside."

Should come before Minor Turbulence. It becomes available before the latter mentioned mission, and there's also a phone call from Jimmy that's only available if you do it then, where Jimmy mentions Michael hasn't been home, and that Madrazo's men are hanging around there too.

Makes me wonder what else about my order should be changed since there are some other optional phone calls I have not been able to get, possibly because the placement of certain missions. I don't know when, but someday when I do another playthrough I'm going to keep a very close eye on what order the missions appear.

It's been a while, but I was just thinking about this thread again. It's been a while since I played through this. Has anybody made any changes to my order, or came up with possible better ones?

I was thinking about the optional phone calls, and how when I played through my order some of them were missing. Made me think there might be a better order to play the missions, one where you don't lose out on optional phone calls.

I did Exercising Demons - Michael after Daddy's Little Girl since Michael would be near the beach anyway. Also I do Pulling Favors right when it becomes available rather than waiting like most suggest. I presume it's Tonya's comment about Franklin not being around the hood much which throws people for a loop. Franklin says to Simeon he's been working at Premium Motorsport for a few months and it's not like Franklin has made it a secret he wants out of the hood, so It's likely he's just been ditching the gang stuff in favor of repo work and not because Franklin's been hanging with Michael.

Phone calls seem to be hit and miss, some work whereas others never do. Though I noticed if you save after a mission with a post-mission phone call, don't make the call and reload the game, the phone call won't register when you load in. So if you want all phone calls, reloading a save will prevent you from getting them if you didn't call beforehand.

I did Exercising Demons - Michael after Exercising Demons - Trevor, why because in her life invader page she mentions that she went to the Vinewood sing with her boyfriend and in Exercising Demons - Trevor theres a scene similar to that, ohh btw I started right after Reuniting the family...

Cant do the epsilon missions in that order. If you go to do the mission "exercising the truth" it tells you that you need the robes to do it and Michael doesn't have the robes in the dessert even if you bring them with him. He changes his clothes and he doesn't have them

Notes:

Who you are left playing as after a mission is accounted for, as well as who gets the longer cutscene (if multiple characters can start the same mission), and the "urgency" of the next missions based of phone calls, text messages, and general story context. Therapy sessions are included since they tie in with the story. There are probably more suitable spots for them, but I just included them after the latest mission they can be done at so Michael will talk about as many events as possible.

Welcome to Los Santos

  Reveal hidden contents

  • "Complications" is done before "Pulling Favors" since Tonya will mention Franklin not being around the hood.
  • "Father/Son" comes up next since Franklin is now out of his job, and has Michael's "come by for a beer" comment fresh in his head.
  • Franklin leaves Michael's planning to come back later, and as mentioned before with Tonya's comment, "Pulling Favors" can be done, as well as "Chop" since Franklin will mention to Lamar "he thinks" this guy he has met can get him some good work. Meaning the Jewelry Job hasn't been mentioned yet to Franklin.
  • As Roe has mentioned, thew news after "Repossession" states that the LifeInvader device will be unveiled "this week" meaning it doesn't occur too late in the storyline, as well as it being mentioned that Stretch will be out "next week" early in the game.
  • "Daddy's Little Girl" being completed before the heist arc to avoid "stopping points" - where a character will text another character telling them to do x or that they have something to do before they can continue, essentially telling the player to finish other missions before they can do the next mission.

Mr. Trevor Phillips

  Reveal hidden contents

  • This chapter is pretty straight-forward. Trevor is told to meet the Chinese at the bar, after "Mr. Phillips." While he is away and the events of "Trevor Phillips Industries" takes place, this gives The Lost time to wreck his trailer since Trevor is away - leading to "Nervous Ron."
  • After that you are only left with "Crystal Maze," which then unlocks "Friends Reunited."

  • The Mr. K mission arc for the FIB is all done back to back.
  • Michael calls Dave after "Fame or Shame" telling him they have to meet, leading to "Dead Man Walking."
  • During "Dead Man Walking" Dave and Michael talk on the phone, and Dave will mention that Michael has to come meet his boss - Steve Haines. Leading to "Three's Company."
  • "By the Book" is initiated by a phone call, but considering the FIB is actively trying to get information out of him, it makes sense for this to be done before any of the characters have time to do any other missions.
  • After "By the Book" you're left with Trevor, and you can do the Merryweather Heist mission arc. The way Trevor and Franklin interact in the opening cutscene for the heist makes it seem as if they still haven't really done much together, placing this before "Hood Safari."
  • Pretty much everyone agrees that "The Hotel Assassination" is done after Hood Safari, since Franklin no longer should be going to his aunt's house to rest up.
  • After getting a break from Michael's story, and enough time has been spent with the FIB and Trevor, "Did Somebody Say Yoga?" can be done where Amanda will mention Michael's frequent activities.
  • "Blitz Play" is all done in a sort of urgency, since the intro cutscene for it implies they are in a rush to get this job done.
  • After "I Fought the Law..." Devin says he will get in touch with Solomon for Michael. So it's better to do "Mr. Richards" after that instead of after "Blitz Play."
  • Nothing left for Michael, so "Eye in the Sky" can be done.
  • After "Caida Libre" Michael and Trevor are locked since they are lying low, giving Franklin time to do a couple assassination missions. Also avoiding "Deep Inside" until they get back to Los Santos, since Lamar will mention during the closing cutscene for "Deep Inside" that he had to contact Trevor to find out where Franklin was.

Exile

  • Franklin will contact Trevor after "Paleto Score Setup" saying he is following the O'Neil brothers. Switching to Franklin will start "Predator" meaning the missions is sort of "active" already, so it is done before getting the military hardware.
  • Now that Franklin isn't busy tailing the O'Neil brothers, Michael and Trevor could still be waiting for information on the military hardware, and the two are still in exile, Franklin has nothing else on his hands so he can do the final assassination mission.
  • This chapter was pretty easy to put together. Not a lot of going on, just getting Franklin's final assassination mission out of the way.

To Live or Die in Los Santos

  Reveal hidden contents

  • "Hang Ten" is immediately done since you're left as Trevor and he is actively on his way back home. This also kicks off the next stretch of events.
  • With Trevor back in town, Lamar should be able to get in contact with him, so "Deep Inside" can be done.
  • Pretty straight forward from here. After Michael is is taken by the Chinese, the next couple of missions have to be done back to back as nothing else is available.
  • Once Michael is back you can do "The Ballad of Rocco" or start the next FIB missions, though the latter seems to be more "urgent" so that should be done first.
  • After "Cleaning Out the Bureau" Franklin is looking for the architect, leading to "Architect's Plans."
  • After planning the raid, the team has very little to do so all the prep can be done, since the whole thing also seems sort of urgent since Steve Haines is being investigated.
  • After "The Bureau Raid" Michael will tell Lester and Franklin he has to leave to go meet with Dave, "the sooner the better" - leading to "The Wrap Up."
  • For the same reasoning as Thelema, I put "The Ballad of Rocco" before "Reuniting the Family," since the call Michael makes to Amanda seems more fitting if she still hasn't moved back in.
  • I haven't done "The Ballad of Rocco" until after "The Bureau Raid" since meeting for "Cleaning out the Bureau" seems urgent after "Fresh Meat." You couuld say that it could also be placed before "Architect's Plans" too, but it when Franklin brings the plans back to the warehouse, Michael is waiting there. It seems as if the two missions (Cleaning Out and Plans) are done in a small span of time (story-wise).
  • With nothing else left, "Reuniting the Family" can be done.
  • "Lamar Down" must be done after "Legal Trouble" since no matter what, after "Lamar Down" Michael's family will mention on LifeInvader that they have received tickets to Meltdown's premiere. This should not happen until after "Legal Trouble" where Solomon will mention he will schedule the premiere due to recent events.
  • The rest is pretty basic, you do "Meltdown" and then you're left with setting up for "The Big Score" and then completing the finale for the game.

Hi, guys. I just have a couple of questions about missions "Chop" and "Hood Safari".

1) Is it really canonical to complete Chop before Complications? I played it before Complications but still at the end of the mission when Franklin said: "we need to get serious, get paid" .Lamar said: "so your old white dude gonna fix us, where's my first class" even though Franklin didn't introduce Michael to Lamar.

old white dude is a common reference to Michael throughout the story, not Simeon. I think doing this mission AFTER Compilations makes sense as Franklin introduces Michael to Lamar, even Lamar talks about Michael on Pack Man mission as well as some friend hangout dialouges.

2) Does doing Hood Safari BEFORE the Merryweather Heist be considered canon as it will unlock a unique dialouge when driving to Port of LS bridges in MW Heist?

It's like Therapy Sessions when doing some missions before each sessions unlocks additional dialogues.

I know Trevor disrespects Franklin like strangers, but they talk about Hood Safari during the ride to the bridge. So it unlocks a new dialogue in the story. Every player completes Hood Safari before the MW Heist because of the unlockable dialouge.

@Story Mode

1. If you do "Chop" before "Complications" Franklin never talks about Michael instead they talk about Simeon.

2. In my latest play I made the mistake and did "Hood Safari" before "The Merryweather Heist" and no dialogue regarding "Hood Safari" was there.

Hi, sorry if I ask this question, but I'm planning for a 100% canonical and chronological playthrough and I'm confused about mission "Hood Safari".

If you KILL MC Clip: Shepherd newspaper will announce he got killed + he bleets on the Bleeter about his photoshoot + Weazel News radio states that he has been killed in a gang shootout.

If you SPARE MC Clip: Shephred newspaper will announce he got killed + he bleets on the Bleeter about his photoshoot + Weazel News radio states that he's photoshoot got disturbed by some gangsters during a gang shootout.

Is it canon to kill MC Clip, or is it canon to just spare him?

Rockstar currently hasn't announced his fate.

Guys and Girls! Check please Weekdays and time of each part of each mission. Cause many of missions \ dialogues and cutscenes are happening in frozen clock, e.g. mission Prologue:

Monday:
Prologue
Till you're inside - 5:00
U got outside     - 6:00
U hit the train     - 7:00

And when you're returning for finding brad's corpse - It's tuesday

And also check map of prologue and Mr. Philips - find that river near Stab City - North Yankton was 9 years ago, Go to the chopper(it's also biker's cycle...)... find that it's like same missions... carefully listen audio and read text, they're different
