I like what you've been doing roe. It's very interesting, keep it up. Just one suggestion, I think it's better to do repossession the day after franklin and lamar. Because you'll notice that at the end of the turtorial cutscence at franklin's house he stretches and yawns like he's about to take a nap, so I just make him relax at home for the rest of the day then trigger repossession bright and early the next morning. And plus Simeon and Lamar are both wearing different clothes in repossession so it makes more sense that it takes place the following day.

Yeah I did wonder whether to do it the next day but having just played it through I think I prefer it like this. Seeing as tomorrow is Sunday (in-game), I'm not planning on doing much for day 2, so the pacing won't make too much difference if Repossession is done on day 1 or 2.

My rough plan for day 2 at the moment is to do the following:

* Pulling Favors

* Optional phone call with Lamar / hangout at strip club

* More surfing in-game internet / watch tv etc

Adding Repossession into that if it hadn't been done yet should be easy enough. It'll take about 4 hours in-game time to complete.

Thanks for your feedback and input.

To Live or Die in Los Santos WIP:

Hang Ten

Deep Inside

Surveying the Score

Bury the Hatchet

Pack Man

Fresh Meat

F*cked Up (Therapy Session)

Cleaning out the Bureau

Architect's Plans

Heist Setup

The Bureau Raid

The Wrap Up

The Ballad of Rocco

Reuniting the Family

Notes:

  • Forgot to add "F*cked Up" after Fresh Meat
  • After "Cleaning out the Bureau" Franklin leaves to go find the architect, leading to "Architect's Plans."
  • After planning out the break-in, the team has very little to do and sets up for the heist.
  • During the closing cutscene for "The Bureau Raid" Michael mentions he has to go talk to Dave right then, the sooner the better - leading to "The Wrap Up."
  • For the same reasoning as Thelema, I put "The Ballad of Rocco" before "Reuniting the Family," since the call Michael makes to Amanda seems more fitting if she still hasn't moved back in. Again, I haven't done "The Ballad of Rocco" until after "The Bureau Raid" since meeting for "Cleaning out the Bureau" seems urgent after "Fresh Meat." You couuld say that it could also be placed before "Architect's Plans" too, but it when Franklin brings the plans back to the warehouse, Michael is waiting there. It seems as if the two missions (Cleaning Out and Plans) are done in a small span of time (story-wise).

Day 2 - Sunday

Off-Mission
08:00 Franklin watches tv at home.
10:00 Lamar texts Franklin: "Stretch is getting out homie! Strizzzzzzetch! His bid's almost done. We goin holla at u dawg."
10:30 Franklin takes Buffalo to car wash.
11:00 Franklin calls Lamar arranging for them to hang out.
12:00 Franklin and Lamar discuss the Forum Drive gang they're trying to start and how Franklin is tired of gang life how it is.
14:00 Franklin and Lamar hang out at Hitmen's bar in Strawberry.
16:00 They then go to the Vanilla Unicorn strip club.
20:00 They leave and Franklin drives Lamar back. Lamar winds Franklin up about Tanisha saying that she's the reason he's "trying so hard", Franklin dismisses it.
22:00 Lamar texts Franklin: "Dawg, you seen this monkey dude doin his street art sh*t round the city? Dude is real, man. Them some authentic ass lines."
23:00 Franklin goes to sleep.

Notes
Los Santos Meteor internet article talks about gang shootout in Vespucci Beach yesterday (events of 'Repossession')

I decided not to do much today other than hanging out with Lamar. I chose not to do Pulling Favors yet because it opens up Chop which stops Franklin from being able to hang out at home and also decided not to do Complications because it was a Sunday.

Basically for the timeline, this day can be used to complete Repossession if it wasn't done the day before.

For Day 3 - Monday, I'm planning on doing Complications.

Day 3 - Monday

Complications
08:00 Franklin arrives at the dealership where Simeon is arranging a deal with Mr. Kenneth, who is wary of it but Simeon counters by accusing him of being racist.
08:00 Simeon sends Franklin to steal back a car from Jimmy De Santa in Rockford Hills because he is already behind on the payment.
08:30 On the way, Simeon phones Franklin warning him that he knows that him and Lamar kept the bike from the last repo job.
09:00 Franklin breaks into the house and takes the car from the garage.
10:00 Franklin calls Simeon to tell him he has the car, to which Simeon replies sarcastically as to whether he'll actually bring the car back this time.
10:15 On the way back, Michael - who was hiding in the back seat - pulls a gun on Franklin and threatens him for breaking into his house and stealing the car.
10:30 Franklin argues that he's only doing his job and Michael jokingly offers to show him "how the world really works".
10:45 Michael orders Franklin to drive the car straight through the front of Simeon's dealership, to which Franklin replies "f*ck my life man, f*ck it".
10:45 Franklin drives straight through the front window where Simeon runs out in shock. Michael pays Frank for the job and then fights Simeon.
11:00 Michael beats up Simeon, calling him a fraudulent scumbag and threatens him not to f*ck with him again.

Off-Mission
11:15 Michael phones Dave Norton "just to talk". They discuss Michael's family and Dave explains that he has a new boss (Steve Haines).
11:30 Michael emails Dr. Friedlander about his latest therapy session. Michael's not sure it's working.
12:00 Switched to Franklin who is talking on the phone to Lamar explaining that they no longer have jobs working for Simeon.
13:00 Simeon phones Franklin and is mad at what happened. Franklin tries to explain but Simeon tells him he is "f*cked".

Pulling Favors
14:00 Franklin sees his old friend Tonya opposite his house. Tonya asks for his help filling in for another friend JB in his job as a tow-truck driver.
14:15 Franklin and Tonya tow an abandoned car back to the Davis Sheriff Impound.
14:30 During the ride they talk Tonya and JB being drug addicts and Franklin explains how he's been trying to branch out with different jobs other than just gang life.

Off-Mission
16:30 Switched to Michael who is on the phone to Amanda while sitting on a bench in a park in Burton.
17:00 Michael drives back to his house in Rockford Hills. Time advances to the next morning.

Weazel News

Car dealership in Pillbox Hill destroyed (Complications), upsurge in armed ATM robberies, Devin Weston buys stake in Richards Majestic, EyeFind sending cars with sophisticated cameras to take pictures of every street and house in America, including images of the inside of your home.

At this point, quite a few missions/strangers and freaks are now unlocked. This is the order in which they seem to have come up on the map:

Father/Son
Chop
Paparazzo
Grass Roots - Michael
Exercising Demons - Michael

I'm planning on doing the missions as close to the order they unlock as possible.

Sorry for double posting but here's what I have so far in terms of the overall mission order including optional phone calls and unique hang outs:

Prologue (9 years ago)

Franklin and Lamar (Day 1 - Sat)

Repossession (Day 1 - Sat or Day 2 - Sun)

- hang out with Lamar

Complications (Day 3 - Mon)

- phone call with Dave Norton

- unique character switch to Franklin who is already on the phone to Lamar

Pulling Favors (Day 3 - Mon)

Notes:

Who you are left playing as after a mission is accounted for, as well as who gets the longer cutscene (if multiple characters can start the same mission), and the "urgency" of the next missions based of phone calls, text messages, and general story context. Therapy sessions are included since they tie in with the story. There are probably more suitable spots for them, but I just included them after the latest mission they can be done at so Michael will talk about as many events as possible.

Welcome to Los Santos

  • "Complications" is done before "Pulling Favors" since Tonya will mention Franklin not being around the hood.
  • "Father/Son" comes up next since Franklin is now out of his job, and has Michael's "come by for a beer" comment fresh in his head.
  • Franklin leaves Michael's planning to come back later, and as mentioned before with Tonya's comment, "Pulling Favors" can be done, as well as "Chop" since Franklin will mention to Lamar "he thinks" this guy he has met can get him some good work. Meaning the Jewelry Job hasn't been mentioned yet to Franklin.
  • As Roe has mentioned, thew news after "Repossession" states that the LifeInvader device will be unveiled "this week" meaning it doesn't occur too late in the storyline, as well as it being mentioned that Stretch will be out "next week" early in the game.
  • "Daddy's Little Girl" being completed before the heist arc to avoid "stopping points" - where a character will text another character telling them to do x or that they have something to do before they can continue, essentially telling the player to finish other missions before they can do the next mission.

Mr. Trevor Phillips

  • This chapter is pretty straight-forward. Trevor is told to meet the Chinese at the bar, after "Mr. Phillips." While he is away and the events of "Trevor Phillips Industries" takes place, this gives The Lost time to wreck his trailer since Trevor is away - leading to "Nervous Ron."
  • After that you are only left with "Crystal Maze," which then unlocks "Friends Reunited."

A Friendship Resurrected

  • The Mr. K mission arc for the FIB is all done back to back.
  • Michael calls Dave after "Fame or Shame" telling him they have to meet, leading to "Dead Man Walking."
  • During "Dead Man Walking" Dave and Michael talk on the phone, and Dave will mention that Michael has to come meet his boss - Steve Haines. Leading to "Three's Company."
  • "By the Book" is initiated by a phone call, but considering the FIB is actively trying to get information out of him, it makes sense for this to be done before any of the characters have time to do any other missions.
  • After "By the Book" you're left with Trevor, and you can do the Merryweather Heist mission arc. The way Trevor and Franklin interact in the opening cutscene for the heist makes it seem as if they still haven't really done much together, placing this before "Hood Safari."
  • Pretty much everyone agrees that "The Hotel Assassination" is done after Hood Safari, since Franklin no longer should be going to his aunt's house to rest up.
  • After getting a break from Michael's story, and enough time has been spent with the FIB and Trevor, "Did Somebody Say Yoga?" can be done where Amanda will mention Michael's frequent activities.
  • "Blitz Play" is all done in a sort of urgency, since the intro cutscene for it implies they are in a rush to get this job done.
  • After "I Fought the Law..." Devin says he will get in touch with Solomon for Michael. So it's better to do "Mr. Richards" after that instead of after "Blitz Play."
  • Nothing left for Michael, so "Eye in the Sky" can be done.
  • After "Caida Libre" Michael and Trevor are locked since they are lying low, giving Franklin time to do a couple assassination missions. Also avoiding "Deep Inside" until they get back to Los Santos, since Lamar will mention during the closing cutscene for "Deep Inside" that he had to contact Trevor to find out where Franklin was.

Exile

  • Franklin will contact Trevor after "Paleto Score Setup" saying he is following the O'Neil brothers. Switching to Franklin will start "Predator" meaning the missions is sort of "active" already, so it is done before getting the military hardware.
  • Now that Franklin isn't busy tailing the O'Neil brothers, Michael and Trevor could still be waiting for information on the military hardware, and the two are still in exile, Franklin has nothing else on his hands so he can do the final assassination mission.
  • This chapter was pretty easy to put together. Not a lot of going on, just getting Franklin's final assassination mission out of the way.

To Live or Die in Los Santos

  • "Hang Ten" is immediately done since you're left as Trevor and he is actively on his way back home. This also kicks off the next stretch of events.
  • With Trevor back in town, Lamar should be able to get in contact with him, so "Deep Inside" can be done.
  • Pretty straight forward from here. After Michael is is taken by the Chinese, the next couple of missions have to be done back to back as nothing else is available.
  • Once Michael is back you can do "The Ballad of Rocco" or start the next FIB missions, though the latter seems to be more "urgent" so that should be done first.
  • After "Cleaning Out the Bureau" Franklin is looking for the architect, leading to "Architect's Plans."
  • After planning the raid, the team has very little to do so all the prep can be done, since the whole thing also seems sort of urgent since Steve Haines is being investigated.
  • After "The Bureau Raid" Michael will tell Lester and Franklin he has to leave to go meet with Dave, "the sooner the better" - leading to "The Wrap Up."
  • For the same reasoning as Thelema, I put "The Ballad of Rocco" before "Reuniting the Family," since the call Michael makes to Amanda seems more fitting if she still hasn't moved back in.
  • I haven't done "The Ballad of Rocco" until after "The Bureau Raid" since meeting for "Cleaning out the Bureau" seems urgent after "Fresh Meat." You couuld say that it could also be placed before "Architect's Plans" too, but it when Franklin brings the plans back to the warehouse, Michael is waiting there. It seems as if the two missions (Cleaning Out and Plans) are done in a small span of time (story-wise).
  • With nothing else left, "Reuniting the Family" can be done.
  • "Lamar Down" must be done after "Legal Trouble" since no matter what, after "Lamar Down" Michael's family will mention on LifeInvader that they have received tickets to Meltdown's premiere. This should not happen until after "Legal Trouble" where Solomon will mention he will schedule the premiere due to recent events.
  • The rest is pretty basic, you do "Meltdown" and then you're left with setting up for "The Big Score" and then completing the finale for the game.

Nice one @cp1dell. It's great to see the full list like that.

One thing I've just noticed is that if you hang out with Lamar after completing Chop, they'll talk whether there's been any fallout with the Ballas over attempting to kidnap D. Franklin says something along the lines of not wanting to get in trouble, to which Lamar joke that "oh, I guess we legitimate repo men now then?". This line might not make much sense if you've already done Complications before because they no longer have jobs as repo men.

I guess you could take the line to be sarcasm, or a case of them perhaps still believing that they might have a future in that line of work. I prefer to just let it slide because I still prefer to do Complications ahead of Chop, and Franklin can talk about meeting Michael and how he thinks he'll be a good contact for them.

Edit: I just saw that you mentioned that in the optional phone calls thread, @cp1dell.

I'm gonna keep going with my playthrough to try and make the most of the unique hangout dialogues and optional phone calls as well as trying to complete the missions in the order the unlock.

Also here's my latest entry in my day-by-day diary timeline:

Day 4 - Tuesday

Father/Son
09:00 Amanda and Tracey are arguing so Michael goes outside to relax by the pool. Franklin interrupts him, stopping by "for that drink you offered".
09:15 Franklin is interested in learning from Michael's criminal experience, but Michael claims that he's retired. Michael offers to buy him a beer at a nearby bar anyway.
09:30 The two start to leave but are interrupted when Michael gets a call from his son, Jimmy; to which Jimmy informs Michael that he tried to sell his boat but it is instead being hijacked right now.
10:00 Michael and Franklin take Amanda's Sentinel and head to Pacific Bluffs to track down the boat.
12:00 Michael spots the boat and they give chase down the Del Perro Freeway. Franklin climbs onto the car hood and jumps on the yacht to save Jimmy.
12:30 Franklin deals with the goons on the boat but Jimmy gets hit by the boom and ends up dangling over the freeway.
13:00 Michael drives underneath and catches Jimmy as he drops. Franklin then jumps back into the car.
13:30 Michael goes to pursue the thieves but the engine of the Sentinel breaks down. They then drive to Los Santos Customs to get it repaired.
16:00 Franklin gets the car fixed then drops Jimmy back home.

Off-Mission
17:00 Jimmy texts Franklin: "Yo F-dog! Ive added you on Lifeinvader accept my request and we can hang! Hit me up anytime bro… ANYTIME and we goin chop it. peace - Jizzle"
18:00 Lamar texts Franklin: "Eh, u moody motherf*cka. Im givin u tht bagger we boosted. Left it at yr auntz crib ;P"
19:00 Franklin phones a taxi for a lift home.

Chop
20:00 Lamar and Chop show up at Franklin's house where Lamar says he has some business lined up.
20:30 On the way to Vinewood Boulevard, Franklin talks about how he's met Michael and believes he'll be a good contact for them.
21:00 They walk into an alley where they find D talking to a woman. Lamar plans to kidnap him for ransom so pulls out a gun but D takes off on a bike.
21:30 Franklin and Lamar get back into the van and chase after D.
22:00 D eventually gets hit by a bus but gets up and runs off. Franklin and Chop chase after him.
22:30 Franklin searchs boxcars at the railyard and finally finds D. Chop manages to bite him and they get him in the back of Lamar's van.
23:00 Lamar makes a ransom call to the Ballas which angers Franklin who says that they'll be able to trace the call and as such tosses the phone out the window and they release D.
23:30 Franklin drops Lamar off at the BJ Smith rec center.

Off-Mission
00:00 Franklin goes home to sleep.

And thank you to everyone else who has contributed to this thread.

Well hey, you served as great inspiration. There's not even that much of a difference between the two lists. Most of the changes I made were personal preference or a slightly different view.

Edit: I just saw that you mentioned that in the optional phone calls thread, @cp1dell.

-snip-

Yeah, that hangout conversation is really conflicting. You have that conversation, and then Tonya mentioning Franklin isn't around the hood anymore in "Pulling Favors," and then the next towing mission she can mention that everyone knows Franklin has "gone all Vinewood and sh*t." The two are completely contradictory and it definitely makes things confusing. For me, it just boiled down to the fact that you can miss those hangout conversations whereas Tonya's first mission is mandatory.

And good luck with the hangouts during your playthrough! Obviously I gave up early on since I wanted to finish the game and list as soon as possible. It's hard to tell which characters will have a unique conversation based on recent events, whereas there are other conversations that aren't mission specific - but exclusive to that point in the story. Hanging out with every character after every mission jut got tedious.

I imagine an easier way to do it would to just hang out with every character that was involved in each mission in some way, or if they had a phone conversation with the protagonist (optional or not) after the mission. But good luck nonetheless! The hangouts and optional phone calls certainly help add to the story. I'm interested in hearing what hangouts I missed out on because of my impatience.

Hey guys

I actually just realised something regarding the placement of pulling favours. When franklin mentions to Tonya that he's been "branching out" of chamberlain hills, it dosen't necessarily mean he's been hanging out with Michael, he could mean that him and lamar have been trying to branch out of chamberlain hills and start up forum gangsters, which they were doing before he met michael. I actually think this makes more sense. It also solves the problem of hanging out with lamar after chop and him saying there just " legitimate repo dudes now" even though they've been fired.

So I made a few changes to my list. I changed pulling favours to take place straight after repossession, then followed by chop, and then the the post-chop lamar hangout, and then complications. I also changed long stretch to take place straight after father/son.

Here are the changes I made

Repossession

pulling favours

Chop

Hang out lamar

Complications

Father/son

Long stretch

Yeah I noticed that as well. It's a pretty vague statement and can be interpreted as them just not doing basic gangbanging stuff. By that point I didn't want to have to start all over again with my playthrough - the first few missions lose their charm after you replay them so many times, so I didn't say anything.

I have updated your list then mate :)

Prologue

Welcome to Los Santos:

Franklin and Lamar

Repossession

Pulling Favors

Chop

Complications

Father/Son

Marriage Counselling

Friend Request (makes sense being done right after Marriage Counseling as Michael would want to get in touch with Lester as soon as possible)

Chaos (Therapy Session) (makes sense he going to the therapist after these 2 crazy missions because we can see Michael's life is totally out of control and he needs to talk to him)

Casing the Jewel Store

Daddy's Little Girl

The Long Stretch

Heist Setup

The Jewel Store Job

P.S. I opted to put Casing the Jewel Store BEFORE Daddy's Little Girl because as Thelema said, it doesn't make much sense Michael needing to earn lots of money and instead he just go watch a movie relaxed in his house + Lester sends a message to Michael saying for him to enjoy the last moments of his retirement with his family, but he only sends this message after the Casing the Jewel Store mission.

By the way, I hope you didn't mind me messing a bit up on your list. I find it a great list and just updated what you said you'd update and just reordered those 2 missions :)

After Complications I tend to do everything I can as Franklin before Father/Son. I do Chop and as much Pulling Favours, Paparazzi and Races missions as a way of Franklin realizing gang banging is worthless and trying to find new work is hard because he isn't qualified for much and he works for idiots before taking Michael up on the offer of a free drink and use him to find work as he is desperate to make money and wants to move forward in his life.

Same way I did it the first time.

To add onto this now, I would still do Pulling Favors and Chop after Father/Son. Sure, you have that Lamar hangout dialogue that infers that the events of Complications haven't taken place yet - but this is easily miss-able. Whereas Tonya's dialogue of Franklin "not being around so much" can be interpreted in two ways, it is also unavoidable dialogue.

I think I'll probably start soon and have a few backup saves handy.

I think you're order is spot on. Lamars hang out dialogue kind of contradicts when Pulling Favors and Chop should be done, but it's also one of those things where you pretty much have to force to happen as I think the dialogue doesn't show up once you complete another mission as Franklin. (I might be wrong on that, though)

Besides, I feel like Franklin is so pissed off at Lamar that he wouldn't exactly be hanging out with him after he royally screws things up in Chop.

So yeah, I'm going to go with your order next time I play through the story.

Nope, that conversation doesn't appear again. It's one of the few context sensitive conversations that you can only get when hanging out after a certain mission.

Only read up to the Merryweather heist but so far so good. Would never have thought of Trevor getting inspired by seeing the docks when dropping off Mr. K, excellent thought process. :^: Just got V on PS4 so I'm gonna write this list down and go through the game this way. :colgate:

I not sure if this is the right place to post this, but in Gta 5 I always get OCD when I do a mission or activity at the most unlikely time of the day. I might post a mission list that can detail which time of the day you should start a mission.

Talking about OCD, some missions (well, I only know one) needs to start wearing a specific outfit, the only one that I know is "the long stretch".

The mission starts at 19:00 and if you're not using a specific outfit, you will have the time lapse scene. The outfit name I don't remember, but it's one of those already done outfit combination, the one using the withe jacket.

If you start using any other outfit combination even if you start at 19:00 exactly, you will have the time lapse scene and you will be using the mentioned outfit

outfit. If you start at 19:00 or soon after using the right outfit, won't be the time lapse scene.

And I'm not sure if you can, but there's that Devin mission where at the end Lamar is at Hayes Autos, and mentions he had to get in contact with Trevor to find out what Franklin was doing. In my opinion, this would make more sense once Michael and Trevor are allowed back in Los Santos - not while they're lying low and not contacting anybody. So if you can, I'd save that Devin mission until after the Exile chapter. In the meantime, that gives Franklin plenty of time to be doing Lester's assassination missions.

Could be possible to do that mission immediately after "Caida Libre", so that Trevor could have told Lamar before the exile, instead of during or after it?

Quality post and reasoning.

Bookmarked the link, another new game started and will follow exactly.

I did them in a slightly different order, with different reasons which I think make more sense. One in particular; Hood Safari always comes before The Merryweather Heist in my opinion.

I know it could just be a throwaway line, and can be said even if they already know each other - but the way Trevor says "Wow Mike, who's the pussy you brought?" during the heist introduction makes it seem like Trevor and Franklin haven't gotten to know each other well yet, even though the conversation when driving Franklin to his destination can change depending if you have done Hood Safari or not.

The Mysterious One

I should try some of what the OP did, but in my case, I mostly focused on Franklin's missions at the start before moving on to Michael's stuff. Plus, I feel it's better to do the stuff with Michael's family like end it at "Did Somebody Say Yoga?" before doing "The Merryweather Heist," as it would make more sense for Michael to do these risky jobs while his family are away.
