GTA V Chronological mission list (possible trinity V version)

I think it's best to do the first two assassination missions back to back and then the rest while Michael and trevor are in exile. that's when I tend to do a lot of franklins S&F and extra missions because he's got nothing else going on during that time, so it won't effect the pacing of the story.

Yeah, so far that's the way things are panning out.

Im following the Guide for the missions which for the most part reflect what is stated in the OP. The only difference is Im doing Random Events ahead of the first Lester Assassination to maximize profit after that Ill wait til the last heist and aim for a few billion dollars.

So this is the whole thing so far.

Notes:

  • Starting "I Fought the Law..." as Franklin since he gives the longest cutscene
  • After that mission, Devin will mention he'll get in touch with Solomon, and you're left in control of Michael, making "Mr. Richards" the appropriate mission to do next
  • Nothing left for Michael, all that is available is "Eye in the Sky," starting as Trevor so you see him getting the helicopter before meeting Franklin
  • Only mission available afterwards other than the assassinations is "Caida Libre," Michael arrives at Martin's first so I'm starting the mission as him
  • Now, OP has the last three assassination missions after you open up the Exile Chapter. Not to say that doesn't work, either way can work, but I prefer to do the available two (Vice and Bus) while Michael and Trevor are laying low and you cannot switch to them. The Construction one will open up later during that chapter and it can be done then. I have yet to place it though. In both situations, Franklin has nothing to do since M and T are lying low, I just find it better fitting that he does the Vice and Bus assassination missions before starting the Exile Chapter, since he will be a bit busy during that section of the game since he begins tailing the O'Neil Brothers, and doing the Paleto Score afterwards.
  • "Deep Inside" is being avoided for now, since at the end of the mission Lamar will mention he had to contact Trevor to see what Franklin was up to. In my opinion, this makes more sense once Michael and Trevor return to Los Santos and resume contact with everyone.

Looks like you're getting the Missions and Side-Missions listed pretty well. Once it's done you could decide where the rest of the Strangers & Freaks (other than Pulling Favors since it's required), Random Events and etc. fit in.

The only side missions I'm putting in are Michael's therapy missions since they pertain to the story, and I guess you could consider the assassinations too since they can be done at any point in time. Though, they're listed as story missions on Social Club.

I'm going to leave the random events, and strangers and freaks missions up to someone else though. Partly because I'm lazy, and partly because I've been skipping them through this playthrough while I order the missions, and I've definitely passed some of their "chronological points." Maybe someone else can do it when they play through the list themselves once this one is done. Though OP has a pretty nice order for the side-missions, so you could take a look at that.

How should I use my save slots? I know it's good to make multiple saves.

Link to comment

I usually only use one slot, but since I'm doing this little project I've been writing to a new slot after every mission. Once all fifteen were filled, I would overwrite the oldest one (bottom of the list).

That way if I decided to do something different, I could go back to a specific mission.

Exile:

Minor Turbulence
Paleto Score Setup
Predator
The Construction Assassination
Military Hardware
The Paleto Score
Derailed
Monkey Business
Notes:
  • "Paleto Score Setup" started by Trevor since you end "Minor Turbulence" as him, and he's the first to arrive to the meth lab in the cutscene
  • Franklin contacts Trevor after the setup saying he's tailing the O'Neil brothers, start "Predator" as Trevor (or Michael) to see the cutscene before Franklin's chase
  • Now that Franklin isn't busy looking for the O'Neil brothers (like he texts Trevor during "Minor Turbulence", or involved with "Predator"), Michael and Trevor are still in Exile, and waiting for some info on the military convoy - Franklin has time to do the "Construction Assassination" since he's not up to anything else (not involved with the Paleto heist yet), and it is now available.
  • "Military Hardware" can be done as Trevor or Michael. I can't remember if I had a specific reason for doing it as Trevor or not. Same goes for the "Paleto Score."
  • Start "Derailed" as Michael, get full cutscene.
  • Switch to Michael after Steve Haines calls and start "Monkey Business" as him since he arrives there before Franklin and Trevor. Also for those wanting to place the Stranger and Freaks, plus Random Events into the chronological order, this is the perfect time for the "Taliana Martinez" random event, since on the way to the pier Michael will pass by her, and by this point in the story he knows exactly where Sandy Shores is.

The Exile chapter was pretty straight forward and easy to put together. No multiple mission strands going on to complicate things. About to do the final chapter of the game!

The Merryweather Heist shouldn't be completed in a straight sequence.

In the minisub prep mission, Trevor calls Floyd and say he needs help storing the submarine for a "few days".

So

By The Book

Scouting The Port

Minisub/Cargobob

Hood Safari

Hotel Assassination

Did Somebody Say Yoga (Maybe)

Merryweather Heist

Hotel Assassination should appen after Three's a Company - Dave says to Micheal "Call him (Franklin) or we will send ome G men to his aunt house" - So he must be living with his aunt by the time

Pulling Favors after Marriage Counselling - At the end of the said mission, Michael says to Franklin "give me some alone time" then Franklin goes back to check things around the hood, plus it fits with Tonya's dialogue "Aint see you around the hood much" "I've been trying to branch out, can't stay in Chamberlain Hills Forever"

The weird thing though is that doing the Merryweather Heist after Hood Safari, during the cutscene in Floyd's apartment Trevor still sort of treats Franklin like he doesn't know him that well. Whereas Trevor showing up at his aunt's house after the heist, and hanging out with him during the events of that mission, he treats Franklin totally differently.

Well, in the heist itself (Container Ship option) Trevor drives Franklin to the bridge, and he comments about the events of Hood Safari if this mission was done first.

Yeah I prefer the Merryweather Heist to be after Hood Safari tbg.

I think there's also a line in Hood Safari where Lamar says "this mo'f*cker crazy" and Franklin replies "yeah, so I've heard", almost suggesting that he hasn't really met Trevor properly yet.

I don't know. Again there's no proper answer here really it's just personal preference.

Hi guys,

I think I've finally settled on what I want to do for this playthrough. I'm going to try to play the missions in a chronological order but I'm also documenting everything that happens in the game and the times/dates it happens. For example, I've just finished up the prologue and this is what I have:

9 years ago - Monday - "Prologue"

05:00 Michael, Trevor and Brad rob a bank in Ludendorff, North Yankton, leaving with $179,500.

06:00 The getaway driver is shot during the escape and the car eventually gets run off the road by a police roadblock.

07:00 Brad and Michael get shot by a sniper, forcing Trevor to fight the cops on his own. He flees and makes off into the distance alone.

2 weeks on - Monday - "Prologue"

12:00 2 weeks later, a funeral is held for Michael Townley. In attendance are his family, the sniper, and in the distance Michael himself watches on.

Notes: I'm guessing at when the funeral takes place. The in-game day shows as still Monday, but obviously it can't be the same day as the bank robbery so I assume it's a couple of weeks later.

I do realise this is a bit mental tbg but I've always been interested in an accurate timeline for the story and it kind of fits this thread

Yeah, f*ck him for contributing to the thread right?

It's a nice idea. The game constantly makes references to the story's timeline and how much time has passed. Michael's therapy sessions being on a somewhat weekly basis, during the Exile chapter in his rant he mentions "a few weeks ago" he was sitting by his pool, the LifeInvader phone thing being announced "later in the week" at the beginning of the game etc.

The game obviously takes place in a set amount of time. What's the big deal if someone wants to put together an idea of how long that would actually be?

EDIT: Alright, here's what I got so far now:

To Live or Die in Los Santos WIP:

Hang Ten

Deep Inside

Surveying the Score

Bury the Hatchet

Pack Man

Fresh Meat

Cleaning out the Bureau

Notes:

  • "Hang Ten" first since you're left as Trevor after returning Patricia, and to kick off the last stretch of events.
  • "Deep Inside" since Trevor is now back in town, and Lamar can contact him on what Franklin is doing and where. Doing this before "Surveying the Score" so you can avoid the "complete other missions before continuing" alert/text message from Molly to Franklin.
  • "Surveying the Score" as Trevor just because the longer cutscene starts with him. Again, who you start these missions as doesn't really matter. I just prefer to get the full scene.
  • "Bury the Hatchet" can be done by either Michael or Trevor. Personally I prefer Michael since he gets the slightly longer cutscene, you mainly play as him in the mission later on, and you get to hear the "flashbacks" and such.
  • Next couple are easy, "Pack Man" and "Fresh Meat" will be available only. The former as Trevor to get the short call from Lamar, the latter because Franklin gets the longer scene.
  • Next it's either "Cleaning out the Bureau" or the next Solomon mission, but the way the FIB missions is set up, it seems somewhat urgent and arranged. You could say Solomon is still in Liberty City, or just getting back before Rocco has found out about his return.

No big deal, apart from the fact that the game does not use those time expressions in a literal sense. If one was to literally follow the story according to character's references to time, they would find out that in addition to being illogical it's impossible.

What's wrong with wanting to see an approx. GTA V timeline? Of course things change depending on your actions, but it'd still be cool.

Yeah I get this. Obviously with an hour in-game time only taking 2 minutes to play but we can still get a rough idea.

Anyway here's what I have so far for the next day:

Day 1 - Monday - "Franklin and Lamar"

08:00 Michael visits Dr. Friedlander's office for a therapy session where he talks about his son and his own life.

08:00 Michael sits on a bench to reflect while Franklin and Lamar walk by. Lamar stops to ask him for directions.

09:00 Franklin and Lamar repossess 2 convertables for Armenian car dealer Simeon Yeterian and race them through the streets of south LS.

10:00 Cops try to apprehend them for speeding so Franklin and Lamar split up to lose them and then return the cars to the dealership.

11:00 Simeon talks Jimmy De Santa into buying a car that he can't afford.

12:00 Franklin and Lamar drive back to Franklin's house. Lamar mocks Franklin's hair and his ex Tanisha then leaves.

Weasel News: Devin Weston profits from congress's decision to allow Merryweather to expand domestic operations, gang crime on the rise, funding war between security agencies (FIB and IAA) rages in the capitol, Epsilonism declared not a cult, historic Vinewood movie studio closed down, Bawsaq in wild swings again as stocks drop

This is a damn good topic. I loved what MoB did with the GTA IV trinity and I want to see this done for GTA V. The first post need to be changed and updated to what everyone else as deemed more of a fluent timeline. I would like to see every side mission to be added to this as well. Keep up the good work guys.

I've finished Day 1 now. Decided to do Repossession on the same day as Franklin and Lamar because there aren't a lot of other activities that are open and there's a lot of time left in the day.

Still not sure exactly how I want to format this but here's what I have for the day's timeline:

Day 1 - Saturday

Franklin and Lamar

08:00 Michael visits Dr. Friedlander's office for a therapy session where he talks about his son and his own life.
08:00 Michael sits on a bench to reflect while Franklin and Lamar walk by. Lamar stops to ask him for directions.
09:00 Franklin and Lamar repossess 2 convertables for Armenian car dealer Simeon Yeterian and race them through the streets of south LS.
10:00 Police try to apprehend them for speeding so Franklin and Lamar split up to lose them and then return the cars to the dealership.
11:00 Simeon talks Jimmy De Santa into buying a car that he can't afford.
12:00 Franklin and Lamar drive back to Franklin's house. Lamar mocks Franklin's hair and his ex Tanisha then leaves.

Off-Mission
12:48 Franklin emails Tanisha about wanting to get back together and asking her to wait for him.
13:00 Simeon calls Franklin asking him to come to the dealership to get another job.
14:00 Franklin gets "shape-up" haircut from Herr Kutz barber in Davis.

Repossession
16:00 Franklin stops by the dealership where Simeon announces him as "employee of the month" which annoys Lamar. Simeon then gives the pair another repo job.
16:15 Franklin and Lamar head to Vespucci Beach to collect a bike from a Vagos gang member. Lamar comments on Franklin's new haircut.
16:30 On the way they discuss working for Simeon and how Franklin used to work for a guy named Marcus.
17:00 Franklin and Lamar search the garages for the bike but are met by Vagos gang members. Lamar pulls out an uzi and a gunfight erupts
17:30 The two survive the shootout and then see the bike they came to collect. Frankin shoots the gang member and takes the bike.
18:00 Lamar advises that they better lay low so they split up and decide to meet at a car wash.
19:00 Franklin meets Lamar at the car wash and criticises him for starting the shootout. Frank explains that they can't return the bike now because they'll get caught so Lamar keeps it for himself.

Off-Mission
20:00 Franklin returns home to smoke and watch tv for the rest of the night.

There are several posts on Lifeinvader and Bleeter about the events of both missions 'Franklin and Lamar' and 'Repossession'

Two mission contacts are now unlocked, the first Tonya Strangers & Freaks meeting (Pulling Favors) and a repo job for Simeon (Complications).

Homicidal Hipster

I like what you've been doing roe. It's very interesting, keep it up. Just one suggestion, I think it's better to do repossession the day after franklin and lamar. Because you'll notice that at the end of the turtorial cutscence at franklin's house he stretches and yawns like he's about to take a nap, so I just make him relax at home for the rest of the day then trigger repossession bright and early the next morning. And plus Simeon and Lamar are both wearing different clothes in repossession so it makes more sense that it takes place the following day.
