ERBBS
Well all was going swimmingly with gta5 when I fired up my PC today and only to see lots and lots of pixelation and flashing from the monitor. Thought the worst and my gtx 780 has decided to go to the graphic God in the sky It's only seven months old, still under warranty Phoned scan today and they said they will replace with equivalent as the gtx 780 is obsolete They said the gtx 970 is the same for same. Is this true? So had to revert back to my gtx480 which I'm glad I kept it Never had a card fail on me but I hope scan are not gonna palm me off with a mediocre card They also said that they cannot give a full refund and can only give what the card is currently worth, or exchange for the as said card, is that right? I paid £320 last August for this card,if it fails I should by rights get my money back. I have never heard of this until today Thoughts on this would be appreciated
Deminu
Yes. Not only that, but the 970 is slightly better overall, and comes with an extra GB of VRAM. http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-970-vs-GeForce-GTX-

longboardskier
Seems like a fair trade to me.
Dowls
970 is better. However if you go over 3.5gb VRAM expect stuttering. It's a pretty known thing that the extra 0.5gb is of lesser speed.

ERBBS
Will see what scan come up with, don't want a repair but in all honesty that cards are so complex it's probably not worth repairing. Let's hope they come up with the goods. Will I be able to run GTA 5 at mostly high settings? Will I be able to run the gtx 970 at high settings? Would I realistically get 60 fps on the gtx970 with 2560x1600 resolution?

swirler
The 970 trades blows with the 780ti, so yes its a notch up for you to take the replacement. We have very similar spec's and displays, I actually posted on the same page as you here about specs/frames with full breakdown of settings and some screenies. I think you'll be just fine

I think you'll be just fine Since running most games on 2560x1600 I find if I ever play games on a poverty spec monitor anything below what I play just isn't good enough, and the detail of the game is great in this resolution. I'm not entirely sure I'm following you? You explained your situation regarding your gpu and questioned the possible replacement of a 970. I pointed out that what I'm running with is pretty much nail-on-head for what you can expect should you take that, incl the uber niche res. ERBBS
Its just a passing comment that running higher res is far more pleasing to the eye, and looking at your pics of the game i should have no trouble running this on a 970 card

So back to playing gta5 at full spec incoming!!!!! My friend has a 970 and he can't max the game. He tweaked it a little bit but he's still having fps drops (not all the time). Overall it seems that the 970 has problems with this game...
Coolstream
UPDATE FROM SCAN Got an email today from scan and confirmed that the card had failed and are in fact replacing my old card with a new EVGA 970 4GB and will be here on wednesday 29th April So happy days. So back to playing gta5 at full spec incoming!!!!! Don't expect to fully max the game out if you're aiming for 60FPS. You can run pretty much everything on ultra with the exception of MSAA, Grass quality and most of the advanced settings (I have High detail streaming while flying on) Running well with around 90FPS most of the time, rising to the 100s some places in the city, it does drop a bit on the countryside but I haven't paid enough attention to really notice it. Edit: Here's my results. You can see my settings in the spoiler. Edit 2: MSAA is the biggest resource hog, try to avoid it. I'm sure it's possible to get the sweet spot for a stable 60FPS even with MSAA though, haven't tried it myself. NaidRaida
I have a MSI 970. I have maxed out the game (MSAA x2, only disabled this three extra options). Result 30-60 FPS (very depending on location - average 45-55 FPS). Fully playable for me. Anyway, the first game were my 970 starts to struggle. I can recommend the card, it has low power consumption too. Just by lowering some settings you can get constant 60 frames. I don't think that my old 550 W power supply could handle a ATI equivalent + i7 + 16 GB... This is the best video card in price/power. According to the overclockers you can bring it up to 980 class results. You're a lucky guy that your 780 got fired. Merry X-Mas! ERBBS
Card arrived today, everything on the highest settings apart from MSAA getting a constant 55fps which is totally playable and the best thing about it was that it was a free upgrade Gonna be playing this tonight yay!!!!!!!!!!
