aLmAnZo
I won't make bold statements about Rockstar having been compromised, but as with any new release, several people have experienced their accounts being stolen. It did happen to me, and if you do use the same password several places, I'd advice you to change it as quickly as possible. I've spoken to several victims of this, and compared to other companies like EA, Origin, Sony playstation and so on, it takes them a very long time to recover your account. In addition, Rockstar is the only company I know that doesn't have double verification for mayor account changes. If someone is able to get into your account, they are able to change both your e-mail and password without sending an e-mail to the original e-mail adress asking for verification before the change is made. Secondly, their first line staff do not have the required authority to reinstate accounts, something most other companies allows first line support staff to do. It's been three days without a word for me now, after I initially called them. According to the person I spoke with (who was both polite, kind and helpful, I might add... not the support staffs fault, this) they are experiencing a lot of these issues at the moment. I am making this thread as a means for people victim of this to get in touch with each other. If you have had your account stolen, and especially if you've had it returned, please let us know how long it took and what you did in order to get it back. Segment
Here's couple of questions 1. did you transfer from console or is it new account? 2. what password length did you have? 3. Did your password have lower and top case letters, as well as numbers? 4. On what websites did you use same password as social club?
aLmAnZo
No, I did not transfer from console, it's an old Social club account since I own several other Rockstar titles. The password in question was 8 characters and unique to the account, with upper and lower case with numbers. But that's not the issue here. Especially since my account is old, has allways had the same nickname and has been linked to the same e-mail adress, I have photos of my serial (pluss screen shots of the other serials from other games bought through steam) and the new guy has changed country and language settings. (Due to cookies, I'm still logged in on Chrome and can see what he has changed). Proving that the account is indeed mine is trivial, so to actually retrieve it shouldn't take more than one single look at the evidence and then give it back. In addition, if this happens to your origin account, you will get a mail asking wether the e-mail change was done by you with the option to revert it by clicking a link... this is industry standard by now, yet rockstar doesn't provide double verification. Segment
Rockstar mains in console market, they are used to PSN and XBL handling the login information, and PSN and XBL already got protection like that. Rockstar are noobs at protecting their own sh*t since GFWL had to be taken out.
aLmAnZo
Hm, haven't thought of that, it's a valid point to be honest. I have been investigating other instances of people having their account stolen too. I'm in contact with a few, trying to figure out how long it will take on avarage to get your account back. If anyone has any experience themselves, please let me know.
