Help me understand something about GTA:O

hey guys.

i need to understand something about GTAO.

i am level 16.

i want to do coop missions, but solo. at least try them solo. at least CHOSE the mission i take and not join a game that someone else started.

i know how to join someone elses job. i look for CONTRACT MISSIONS on the cell phone and then the game looks for a game for me.

but i am not a huge fan of this. mainly because i get to replay missions i already played and that i didnt like. i have no control over what mission it is nor how many players join it.

1) Can i start a contract mission by myself?
i looked at the map for the STAR icons but there are about 14 starts and they all seem like some kind of adversary missions. i dont get it. are you telling me there is no easy way to recognize coop missions?

i know that if i DO manage to somehow be the host of a contract mission than i can at least chose the parameters (weapons, difficulty, invites etc) but i dont really get how i can be a host...

2) i also dont understand which of the missions i get invited to via my cell phone are co-op or adversary. the game sends me invites to matches or connects me to matches in other means but the match description rarely tells me what match this is - is it a death match or a coop? i have to guess by looking at the number of players allowed. if its 2-12 or something than its some sort of adversary. if its 1-6 or 1-4 or something than its coop, but it doesnt seem like there is a comfortable title that tells exactly what match this is. and if i get an invite to the cell phone than by the time i get to read everything in the SMS to get a vague idea if its a coop or a MP mission and accept it - i wait for 2 minutes for the mission to load (if not more. i dont know how long it is. feels like eternity) and after the long loading time it says the lobby is already full. well sure it is, i had to read an entire SMS for a minute and load for additional minute. aaarrrg! so annoying.
what am i missing?

Call the contact you want to do a mission for and you'll have the option to "request job". Only accept job invitations directly from that contact and not other players. Also, it might help if you're in an invite only session.

Go into the pause menu then look for jobs > host job > contact missions (may not be those exact words but something to that effect)

You'll get a list of all the jobs available to you and you can launch one by yourself from there.

Menu>online>jobs>host job>rockstar created>missions. I think in that order anyway, but you get the idea.

Pause menu > online > jobs > rockstar created > contact missions

You will only have the missions you have unlocked (missions are level locked) in your list. At level 16, your selection will be limited.

While in the pause menu, go to online > options > matchmaking: CLOSED. This will default your matchmaking to invite only, which will prevent random players from joining on call. Trust me, you will appreciate it just as much as the people you would otherwise have to kick.

Good luck in your endevours

IDK if it was recently removed because I remember hosting jobs on 360 and PS4, but on PC there's no option to host a job anymore.

Oh and as far as discerning co-op from versus missions: you can usually tell from the description. Otherwise, versus missions are labelled as such at the bottom of the description in the pause menu.

Some co-op missions have a minimum of 2 or 4 players, so while player count is a great way of identifying solo-able missions, it isn't always fool proof.

"Host" job has been replaced with "Play" job. It's been like that since the Heists update.

Host job and Play job shouldn't make a difference if your matchmaking is defaulted to closed. I've only lost host position by voting for "random" in the vote/selection menu.

Still doesn't know how to properly set matchmaking to closed!

Yeah it looks like this on ps4 as well. They removed the ''host job'' option (I'm guessing to gather more players together), hence why Soundisms' advice, about switching matchmaking off, is so usefull.

EDIT: Triple ninja'd damn!

"Play job" sends you into an open lobby. You aren't able to create your own lobby.

I thought starting jobs in this manner only allowed you to REPLAY jobs you've already done. OP specified he was looking for new jobs to solo.

Correction:

I missed the part where OP was requesting "new" jobs..

Celldweller is correct. The list of missions in the pause menu only includes missions the player has completed. OP will need to call his contacts (Lester, Martin, Ron, etc) and request jobs or wait for an in game text if attempting solo play. Otherwise, accepting invites to jobs will also add the job to your list, as long as your rank is high enough to have unlocked the mission.

ie: you can join any mission at any level, but you must be the appropriate level to host and play solo.

Start the job from an invite only lobby, change your default mission mode to "closed" and enable "stay host after mission"

Go to options >online >matchmaking>set to close to play alone

You could remain in public free roam

1) is there a difference between selecting a job from the menu than asking one from a character in the cell phone?

cuz i managed to call a contact on the phone and ask for a job, get one, answer the text and go on my marry way (solo, if i just launched the mission before anyone joined). but i havent looked up the difference to picking a job from the menu, since someone said that the jobs from the "play job" mission (via menu) is only redoing jobs i already did.

2) also, as i progress through the ranks (no level 22, i think) can i expect new jobs to be offered for me via the cell phone methode described above, or will these missions repeat themseves over and over again?
i guess the question can be something like: what will happen faster - me ranking up and unlocking new missions so they dont repeat OR running out of missions before i rank up and unlock new ones?

3) after a mission i get to a screen where i can vote on the next mission. obviously if i am alone than my vote kinda counts, but it seems like all the missions offered to me are missions i already did. and if i chose "shuffle" than i get missions of a different kind (like DM or CAPTURE etc).
Is it on purpose?

4) can i tell if i already completed a mission offered to me (via text or in these "voting" screens as i described above)?

1) Not really. The menu will only give you jobs you've already done, and calling the Contact will only result in being given jobs you've already done.

2) As new jobs can't be given through calling them, you'll have to either join other player's jobs or wait for the contact to text you new ones. (You'll get a random job invite from the contact with the word NEW next to it.)

3) Yes. The first page will always be jobs of the same type, and the other two pages will be completely random.

4) Yes. If you haven't completed the mission, it'll say NEW next to the name on the invite. In the voting screen, there'll be a little green tick over the star next to Mission if you've completed it.
