Again, we just need to wait until OpenIV or other similar tool add support to edit rpf files, then we can edit timecyc.xml files.

What? It's visible from the begining when you start the game, it's the same on consoles... so... what? It's just made it like that.

Maybe. But this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_WbXbycLJ0 doesn't happen on consoles.

I smell a 'shadow' patch in which Rockstar will do shadows differently. Same thing happened to GTA IV. They 'reworked' the shadows in the 1.0.6.0 patch.

The only thing that worries me about waiting for a "fix" is that this isn't just a bug thats been recently discovered. It's clear as day and the majority of set ups have this issue. It's not new and Rockstar have always known about it. So, its very likely just the way it is.

So...mods having you banned, shadows still being sh*t on even super computers..was the wait worth it? I mean, all you have is a shinier console version. Unless you pirate a new copy (no not suggesting or promoting it), you won't be able to mod and play GTAO.

Getting this issue too.... Using an MSI GTX 980 no setting seems to fix this issue, I'm also expriencing some grass glitches which I think are related to this box that is around the character as well, I'll post 2 screenshots and a video as well so you guys can see what I'm talking about.... The video is show this really weird box around the character that you can clearly see with how the shadows interract when you move in them.

Video of the shadow glitch:

Firstly, it is quite nice to know Rockstar peruses these forums and are occasionally willing to step down from Mt. Olympus to talk with us mere mortals. ;)

Secondly.....I only noticed this originally during the benchmark sequences while flying the Lazer. The shadows were popping up about 200 feet or so in front of the plane as it flew along, and I found it quite annoying.

But just over the past week or so, I have noticed it happening when my character is wandering around on foot, and it is quite obvious why. I mean....I am walking along say, a low wall or a curb or something....and suddenly shadows pop in front of me that are not there 10 feet away......

It detracts from the realism, needless to say.

To me, it is not a major problem, as long as I have smooth gameplay, no crashes, etc.

But one of the great things about such a game as GTA is the immersive qualities, and glitches like this kind of ruin that aspect. As crazy as it sounds, I do not want to be reminded I am playing a game.

The GTA world is an escapist fantasy I use to forget about my troubles in the real world. As it is for all of us.

I have no need to bitch about this, but just wanted to add my 2 cents....I look forward to having this fixed. :)

Except it definitely doesn't seem to be an issue, it's intended for performance. It's been like this on every version of the game and looks like it was meant to be that way, the only problem is R* didn't give PC users the option to change it.

Seriously.. stop calling this an 'issue' or a 'bug'.

A quick fix, change your vertical sync off and then back on again. It'll fix it right away. It eventually will happen again but it'll work for now.

Surprisingly, doing that also helps give you more FPS.

Hope some people did report it to rockstargames --> https://support.rockstargames.com

I just filed in ticket and I'm hoping to get at least a answer if its a bug or not... Because I did NOT have this issue with the launch of the game I think its a bug, setting or other mistake that somehow did manage to get in on of the later patches. For visual aid I linked to 2 youtube video's and this topic here, so I hope they will understand my issue.

If I hear something, I will report back here.
My ticket number is 3883586

Have update on my support ticket.
Bottom line is there aware of this particular issue, and we are currently investigating the matter to find a solution

Here is my conversasion with Rockstar Support:

I write:

Hi there,

Probably known bug... After the second or third patch I experienced some issues with the rendering of shadows, grass and other small details. I'm quite sure this was not present at launch and is somehow introduced in one of the patches. Its like there is a small box or bubble around the player (or camera). It's very notable, therefore I'm hopeful to find a fix or receive some kind of official word on my issue

Have some visual examples: (2 short youtube samples):

-

-

Also other players are having the same issue, see topic on GTAForums with more video's and screenshots.

I have not changed my system, have the same (up-to-date) drivers as when I played the game at launch.
I did try to reset graphic settings to default, no luck
I also did a verify command of my files

Have a nVidia graphic card (GTX 970) and Intel processor (i7 4790)

After receiving a auto response with some general information, I needed to reply to the message to get my question to a human technical support agent. Tavon W. from Rockstar Support answered my ticket.

Looks like a standard reply...

Hello Marsmillo,

Thank you for contacting Rockstar Support.

We would like to have you try the following troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issues you are experiencing.

  • Ensure that you have Administrator privileges on the computer you are trying to run the game on.
  • Ensure that all non-essential USB devices are disconnected from the computer for the purposes of troubleshooting. This could include (but isn't limited to): game controllers, flight-sticks, etc
  • Update your video and sound drivers. (Refer to manufacturer’s website)
  • Disable Background Applications.

It is strongly recommended to turn off all background applications when running graphically intensive programs. Many applications can cause errors such as GPFs, color scrambling, loss of sound effects or music, etc. Taking a minute to turn off these applications can save you the trouble of rebooting later. Background applications include such things as System Agent, Norton Utilities, Internet chat utilities, virus checkers and screen savers. Crash guard programs such as First Aid for Windows can also cause problems.

    Windows XP
    1. Click Start, then Run
    2. In the Open: box, type msconfig. Click OK
    3. On the General Tab, click the Selective Startup option.
    4. Uncheck the option to Load Startup Items.
    5. Click Apply and Close.
    6. Answer Yes to Restart Windows.

    Windows Vista / Windows 7
    1. Click on the Windows icon in the lower left corner of the screen.
    2. Click on Start Search
    3. Type in msconfig and press the Enter key on your keyboard.
    4. Click the Continue button if the message "Windows needs your permission to continue" appears. If this message does not appear, please continue to step 5.
    5. On the General Tab, choose Selective Startup.
    6. Uncheck the option to Load startup items.
    7. Click Apply, then Ok, and restart the system when prompted.
  • Reinstall Direct X Updates
It is possible that the version of Direct X running on your computer is encountering errors with the game you are trying to play. If this is the case, we advise reinstalling Direct X. The latest version of Direct X can be found here http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35
  • Disable SLI/CrossFireX
Many games do not support either the SLI or CrossFireX features of Nvidia or ATI video cards. It is advised to disable SLI/CrossFireX if you are running two or more video cards in the same computer when encountering issues. Please refer to manufacturer’s website for more details on how to enable/disable this feature.

  • Lower Sound Acceleration

    Windows XP
    1. Login to the machine as the Administrator user.
    2. Go to Start, then Control Panel.
    3. Double-click the Sound and Audio Devices icon.
    4. Click the Audio tab.
    5. In the Sound Playback section, click the Advanced button.
    6. Click the Performance tab.
    7. Move the slider for Hardware Acceleration back 2 notches to the left to the Basic setting.

    Windows Vista/7/8
    1. Press Windows + R to bring up the run box
    2. Type "control panel" without quotes, press ENTER.
    3. Goto Hardware and Sound > Sound
    4. Pick your sound device that is set as default
    5. click Properties.
    6. Go to the Advanced tab
    7. Set "Default Format" to 44.1khz 16bit.
    8. Click Apply and then click OK to accept the new setting and close the dialog box.
    9. Click OK to close the Display Properties dialog box.
    10. Restart Windows.

  • Verifying the integrity of the game cache (only applicable if you have the Steam version of the game)

Right click on the game in the Steam library and select Properties
Navigate to the "Local Files" tab
Click "Verify integrity of game cache"
  • Uninstall and Reinstall the game completely.
There is a possibility that some of the files which are installed during the setup process are incomplete or corrupted. Try uninstalling the game completely and reinstalling it under its default or express settings.

If none of the above troubleshooting resolves the issue, please contact us back for further troubleshooting with an updated DXDiag and MSInfo.

Best regards,

Tavon W.
Rockstar Support

Not happy with this, and also his suggestions where not helping I sended following back:

Hi there,

Looks like a standard response, did you had the time to look at the provided links to get a better understanding of my problem? Especially this

video (youtube) shows it clearly. Or see this image: http://s13.postimg.org/3sctzdpcn/what.jpg

After some own research, I did read that on some point the console version had a similar problem (seen here youtu.be/3_WbXbycLJ0 ) And some people on GTAForums experience the same problem, calling it the "cascade shadow" problem ( http://gtaforums.com/topic/787811-shadows-keep-rendering-only-a-few-feet-away-from-me-same-goes-for-gra/?p=1067414007 )

Nevertheless I did the following:

- Ensure I have Administrator privileges (and games runs in admin mode)
- Only keyboard and mice are plugged in to USB
- All my drivers and Direct X version is up-to-date
- I don't have more than one graphic card, so no SLI
- Did Lower Sound Acceleration
- Verifying the integrity of the game cache
--> (RSC / DVD version using GTAVLauncher.exe with parameter "-verify")
- Did reinstall the game

I also did:
- Reset graphic settings to default (ingame option)
- Deleted the settings.xml file in my documents (to force a fresh one)
- Played around with the graphic settings shadow and extended shadows
- Changed PostFX settings
- Found out that the Ambient Occlusion is also bugged
--> See ( http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/guides/grand-theft-auto-v-pc-graphics-and-performance-guide )

Problem still there ... Some people are trying to say me its not a bug, its by design. But I can't believe that I did not see this when first playing the game at launch. I'm quite sure it was introduced by some patch. Can you respond to that?

Updated DXDiag and MSInfo added
Thanks
